Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a demanding, ray-tracing-first PC game. The official minimum specification requires hardware-accelerated ray tracing, 8GB of VRAM, 16GB of system RAM, and an SSD—even for native 1080p. A PC with a GTX-class graphics card, integrated graphics, less than 8GB of VRAM, or only a hard disk drive should not be treated as officially supported.

Bethesda lists three target tiers: minimum for native 1080p, recommended for native 1440p, and ultra for native 4K. The published tiers do not state a frame-rate target, so none should be read as a guarantee of 60 frames per second.

Official Indiana Jones and the Great Circle PC requirements

Bethesda’s published requirements apply to the Windows PC version. Every tier requires hardware ray tracing and an SSD. The operating-system requirement is also the same across all three tiers: Windows 10 version 22H2 or newer, using a 64-bit installation.

The biggest requirement is hardware ray tracing

Unlike many PC games that list a conventional rasterized GPU as their minimum, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle requires hardware-accelerated ray tracing at every official tier. That requirement matters more than the CPU names alone.

A system may have a processor fast enough for the minimum tier but still fall outside the published baseline if its graphics card lacks suitable hardware ray-tracing support. Older GTX cards, integrated graphics, and other non-RT GPUs should not be described as meeting the official minimum simply because they can run less demanding games.

The minimum GPU examples—RTX 2060 SUPER, Radeon RX 6600, and Intel Arc A580—also all include 8GB of VRAM. That is a practical floor, not merely a recommended amount for higher-quality textures.

Why 8GB of VRAM matters

Bethesda’s support documentation identifies video-memory allocation errors as a possible result of a graphics card falling below the 8GB minimum or of selected settings requiring more memory than the GPU provides. In practice, that means a low-VRAM card can create launch or stability problems even when its general rendering performance appears adequate.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your current GPU has less than 8GB of VRAM, upgrading to a ray-tracing graphics card with at least 8GB is the first hardware change to investigate. Do not choose by VRAM capacity alone: check the card’s ray-tracing capability, physical length, power-supply requirements, motherboard compatibility, and the resolution and refresh rate of your display.

A GPU upgrade also needs to be balanced against the rest of the PC. A processor below the minimum may limit performance, and an inadequate power supply or poorly ventilated case can make a nominally suitable graphics card impractical.

SSD required: plan for more than 135GB of free space

The game requires an SSD, not a conventional mechanical hard disk drive. Bethesda separately recommends SSD installation for a smooth experience, while the official table lists 126GB for the base game and another 9GB for DLC.

That adds up to 135GB of stated installation space, but it is not a sensible amount of spare capacity to target. Windows, updates, temporary files, shader data, and future patches also need room. If your PC is still using an HDD or has too little free space on its gaming SSD, a 1TB internal SSD is a practical category to consider. Confirm first whether your desktop or laptop accepts a 2.5-inch SATA drive, an M.2 NVMe drive, or another storage format; not every PC supports every SSD type.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Moving the game from an HDD to an SSD will not turn an underpowered GPU into a supported one. Storage addresses loading and streaming constraints, while ray tracing, VRAM, CPU, and system memory determine whether the machine meets the relevant hardware tier.

16GB is minimum; 32GB is needed for the upper tiers

The minimum specification calls for 16GB of system RAM. Bethesda lists 32GB for both recommended and ultra, so a PC with 16GB should not be expected to reproduce the recommended or ultra experience merely because its processor and graphics card are powerful enough.

If you are targeting either upper tier, a 32GB gaming RAM kit may be an appropriate upgrade category. Check whether the motherboard uses DDR4 or DDR5, how many memory slots are available, the supported memory speeds, and whether the existing modules should be replaced or matched. Laptop memory and desktop DIMMs are different formats, and some laptops have partially or fully soldered RAM.

What each official tier means

Minimum: native 1080p

The minimum configuration pairs 16GB of RAM with an i7-10700K or Ryzen 5 3600-class processor and an 8GB ray-tracing GPU such as the RTX 2060 SUPER, RX 6600, or Arc A580. Bethesda labels this tier for native 1080p.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“Native 1080p” describes the resolution target; it does not specify a guaranteed frame rate, graphics preset, or upscaling mode. The requirement should therefore be treated as a compatibility baseline rather than a promise of a particular performance number.

  • UPGRADE WITH EASE: Using the 870 EVO SSD is as simple as plugging it into the standard 2.5 inch SATA form factor on your desktop PC or laptop; The renewed migration software takes care of the rest

Recommended: native 1440p

The recommended tier raises system RAM to 32GB and calls for an i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 7700-class CPU. The graphics requirement rises to an RTX 3080 Ti 12GB or RX 7700 XT 12GB for native 1440p.

This is a substantial GPU step above minimum, not just a small quality adjustment. Readers buying for 1440p should also consider the monitor’s refresh rate and whether they are willing to use upscaling or reduce demanding settings.

Ultra: native 4K

Ultra requires 32GB of RAM, an i7-13900K or Ryzen 9 7900X-class processor, and either an RTX 4080 16GB or RX 7900 XT 20GB. Bethesda associates this tier with native 4K.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Native 4K places considerably more work on the GPU than 1080p or 1440p. The published tier does not promise a specific frame rate, and it should not be used as evidence that every PC with one of the listed GPUs will deliver a fixed performance target in every scene.

What to upgrade first

  1. Below 8GB of VRAM or no hardware ray tracing: upgrade the GPU first. CPU or RAM upgrades cannot compensate for missing RT hardware.
  2. Installing on an HDD: move the game to an SSD or add a compatible SSD with comfortably more capacity than the stated installation size.
  3. Targeting recommended or ultra with 16GB of RAM: move to 32GB, provided the motherboard or laptop supports it.
  4. Below the listed CPU tier: evaluate the processor and platform after addressing the graphics requirement. A CPU upgrade may also require a new motherboard, memory, cooler, or power solution.
  5. Targeting a resolution higher than the tier you meet: prioritize the GPU and VRAM, then assess CPU performance and cooling.

Before buying parts, identify your exact CPU, GPU model and VRAM, RAM capacity and type, Windows version, storage drive, power supply, case clearance, and monitor resolution. A complete gaming PC that meets the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle requirements can be simpler than piecing together incompatible upgrades, but the listed parts still need to be checked against the system’s motherboard, power supply, cooling, and case.

Advanced feature: path tracing

Bethesda documents a later path-tracing option separate from the minimum, recommended, and ultra requirements. Its support information says path tracing is available on Intel GPUs with 12GB of VRAM and ray-tracing support, or AMD GPUs with 16GB of VRAM and ray-tracing support. Bethesda also says enabling DLSS exposes the path-tracing options.

This is an advanced-feature note, not a replacement for the official three-tier table. Meeting the minimum does not mean a system is suitable for path tracing, and the path-tracing guidance does not remove the baseline requirements for an SSD, 8GB of VRAM, or hardware ray tracing.

Official troubleshooting steps for low performance and crashes

If the PC meets the specification but the game performs poorly or crashes, use Bethesda’s troubleshooting sequence before assuming that a new component is required.

For low frame rates or general performance problems

  1. Confirm that the system meets at least the minimum CPU, GPU, VRAM, RAM, operating-system, and SSD requirements.
  2. Install the game on an SSD and confirm that the drive has adequate free space.
  3. Close unnecessary background applications.
  4. Update the graphics driver through the official NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel support channel.
  5. Temporarily disable Steam Overlay or Xbox Game Bar while testing low frame rates.
  6. Verify the game files in Steam or use the relevant repair option for the installation.
  7. On a system with more than one GPU, confirm that the game is using the primary or discrete GPU rather than an integrated graphics processor.
  8. On an affected laptop, select a high-performance power profile and test while connected to AC power.
  9. Return changed graphics settings to the game’s automatically detected values, then adjust them one at a time.
  10. Check that the required DirectX components are present and functioning.

For crashes

Bethesda additionally recommends lowering graphics quality, closing resource-heavy applications, updating drivers, repairing or verifying game files, removing mods, and checking whether antivirus software needs an appropriate exclusion. These are official support measures, not independent benchmark results or guarantees that a particular fix will solve every crash.

For one specific unsupported-driver error, Bethesda cites NVIDIA driver 566.36 or newer and AMD driver 24.12.1 or newer as launch-era supported baselines. Those numbers should not be treated as the universally latest drivers; use the current driver supplied through the relevant GPU manufacturer and consult the game’s current support guidance if the error persists.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Treat Indiana Jones and the Great Circle as a hardware-ray-tracing game first. The official minimum is an 8GB RT-capable GPU, 16GB of RAM, a supported CPU, Windows 10 22H2 64-bit or newer, and an SSD. For native 1440p or 4K targets, Bethesda raises the requirement to 32GB of RAM and substantially faster CPUs and GPUs. If your PC misses the minimum, upgrade the GPU/VRAM first, then storage and RAM as applicable; software utilities cannot replace missing hardware.
