This page examines the Intel Arc B580’s software experience and non-gaming performance, not the complete gaming review. HotHardware published these measurements on December 12, 2024, using launch-era drivers and applications. Intel’s drivers and software have continued to change, so the results remain useful historical evidence—but they should not be treated as a current 2026 benchmark run.
The B580’s story here is mixed in an informative way: Intel Graphics Software was cleaner than the older Arc Control application, Blender performance was respectable without displacing NVIDIA, general GPU compute landed around the middle of the field, and OpenVINO-powered AI inference was unexpectedly strong in the tested workloads.

Intel Graphics Software Is Cleaner Than Arc Control
Intel replaced Arc Control with Intel Graphics Software, a more straightforward control application for Arc graphics cards. In the launch-era review, the new interface was considered easier to navigate and less cluttered than its predecessor.
The application is organized into several useful areas:
- Home: Driver-update preferences and a summary of the installed hardware.
- Profiles: Detected games and per-game customization options.
- Graphics: Global V-Sync controls and Low Latency settings, including “On+Boost.”
- Display: Display configuration options.
- Performance: Real-time system and GPU metrics.
- Tuning: Overclocking and related performance controls.
That simpler layout is a genuine improvement for owners who mainly want to update drivers, change graphics behavior or tune the card. However, the software was relatively sparse at launch. HotHardware specifically criticized the lack of an integrated performance overlay, screenshots and video recording. Owners had to use Windows tools, features built into individual games or third-party utilities for those tasks.
Those limitations should be dated to the software tested in December 2024. Intel’s B580 downloads page and support page show that Arc software and drivers continued to evolve after launch. Intel was still listing compatibility and display-related issues in July 2026, including a problem involving display-tab reconfiguration after driver updates. In other words, the new control panel was a step forward, but the Arc experience remained dependent on ongoing driver development.
Review System and Methodology
HotHardware tested the Intel Arc B580 Limited Edition on a substantially more powerful platform than the typical budget or midrange gaming PC:
- Processor: Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
- Motherboard: MSI MEG Z890 ACE
- Memory: 2×24GB Kingston Fury DDR5-8400 CUDIMM
- Operating system: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, build 26100
- Graphics card: Intel Arc B580 Limited Edition, 12GB
- Review driver: Intel Arc driver 101.6252 for Battlemage
The comparison group included the Arc A580, A750 and A770; AMD’s Radeon RX 7600, RX 6750 XT and RX 7700 XT; and NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti.
The productivity and AI software versions were Blender 4.3.0, Geekbench 6.3.0, Geekbench AI 1.2 and MLPerf Client 0.5.0.

This is an appropriate platform for isolating graphics-card performance, but it is not representative of every system that might use a $249 GPU. A flagship-class processor and extremely fast DDR5 can reduce platform bottlenecks that appear on older or cheaper PCs. At lower resolutions, some game results can also become CPU-limited. The review described Baldur’s Gate 3 as more of a CPU benchmark than a GPU benchmark in parts of its testing, which is a useful reminder not to treat every score as a pure measure of graphics hardware.
Blender: Good Against Older Midrange Cards, Still an NVIDIA-Friendly Workload
Blender measures GPU-accelerated 3D rendering. Its workloads can use hardware acceleration from NVIDIA, AMD and Intel, making it a useful test of creator performance—but results depend heavily on the selected renderer, scene, API, driver and Blender version.
In the tested scenes, NVIDIA remained dominant. The Arc B580 nevertheless performed well relative to older Arc cards and was around or above the previous-generation Arc models. It also matched or surpassed the Radeon RX 6750 XT in the cited comparisons and was not far behind the more expensive Radeon RX 7700 XT.
That is a positive result for a midrange card, especially for occasional rendering. It does not support the broader claim that the B580 is better than NVIDIA for content creation. Blender buyers should check the exact renderer and workflow they use, particularly if their projects depend on vendor-specific acceleration or established application support.
Geekbench GPGPU: Functional, Not a Buying Reason
Geekbench’s GPGPU test evaluates general-purpose GPU computation through OpenCL. It is not a gaming benchmark, and it is not a CUDA benchmark.
The B580 produced a middle-of-the-pack result. That means it was perfectly functional for the tested general compute workload, but it did not establish a clear advantage over the competing cards. Buyers should keep the categories separate:
- Gaming: Frame rates and frame pacing in specific APIs and engines.
- OpenCL: General-purpose GPU computation tested by Geekbench GPGPU.
- CUDA: NVIDIA’s proprietary compute ecosystem, required or preferred by some applications.
- OpenVINO AI inference: A software-optimized path that can produce very different results from OpenCL or gaming tests.
A middling OpenCL score does not invalidate the B580 as a gaming GPU, just as a strong AI-inference score does not prove it will be fast in every compute application.

Geekbench AI Shows the Importance of Software
Geekbench AI 1.2 tests machine-learning workloads using different models, precisions and software backends. HotHardware tested the B580 with ONNX and OpenVINO, selecting the most appropriate API for each graphics card.
Recommended Free Tools
The B580 won the tested FP16 and INT8 inference comparisons. Intel’s OpenVINO framework was a major reason for that showing, and its FP16 lead over the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti was described as narrow.
The important conclusion is not that the B580 is universally faster than NVIDIA or AMD for AI. Rather, the results demonstrate how strongly AI benchmarks depend on the complete software path: the model, precision, framework, backend, driver and whether the workload is inference or training.
For an ordinary GPU buyer, this makes the B580’s AI performance an interesting bonus rather than a standalone purchase recommendation. If a specific local-AI application supports OpenVINO well, the card may be unusually effective for that task. If the application expects CUDA, uses a different backend or has limited Intel support, Geekbench AI’s result may not predict the experience at all.
MLPerf Client: Strong Latency and LLM Throughput in the Tested Path
The review also included MLPerf Client 0.5.0, a relatively new public benchmark at the time, to measure local large-language-model inference.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The B580 produced particularly strong results for both latency and inference throughput. Latency describes how quickly the system begins responding, while throughput describes how quickly it generates output. These are related but distinct user experiences: a system can respond quickly to the first request without maximizing sustained output, or produce high total throughput while feeling less responsive.
Once again, the review attributed much of Intel’s advantage to OpenVINO efficiency. The result is meaningful for the tested MLPerf workload, but it is not a universal ranking of local-AI hardware. Different language models, quantization levels, context sizes, drivers and inference frameworks can change the outcome substantially.

How These Results Relate to Gaming
The strong AI results should not be confused with game performance. The next review pages cover synthetic tests and games using DirectX 11, Vulkan and DirectX 12. The broader review found strong performance in some titles, but not perfectly consistent behavior across APIs and engines.
For example, HotHardware reported frame-pacing concerns for the B580 in Baldur’s Gate 3 under Vulkan. It also found Fortnite performance weaker than expected under the tested settings and suggested that Unreal Engine could be a difficult case for the card. Those observations matter because they balance the unusually positive AI results: Arc performance can be excellent in a favorable workload while remaining less predictable in another.

Intel made meaningful software progress
Intel Graphics Software was cleaner and easier to understand than Arc Control in the launch review. Profiles, display controls, performance monitoring and tuning were all present, giving owners the essential management tools.
But Intel had not yet matched the convenience features commonly expected from more mature GPU software suites. The missing overlay and capture tools were practical omissions, even if they did not affect frame rates.
The B580 is not universally dominant outside games
Blender was favorable compared with older Arc cards and the Radeon RX 6750 XT in the tested scenes, but NVIDIA remained the leader. Geekbench GPGPU was middle-of-the-pack. These are credible, useful results, but they point to a workload-dependent product rather than an across-the-board workstation champion.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAI inference was the standout
Geekbench AI and MLPerf Client showed the B580 at its best. OpenVINO optimization helped Intel achieve unusually strong results in the tested FP16, INT8 and LLM inference paths. That is a legitimate capability, particularly for buyers who have verified OpenVINO support in their chosen software.

Specifications, Compatibility and Price Context
Intel’s reference specifications list the Arc B580 with 12GB of GDDR6 memory, 20 Xe-cores, 20 ray-tracing units and a 192-bit memory interface. The reference total board power is 190W, and outputs include three DisplayPort 2.1 connectors and one HDMI 2.1 connector. Intel launched the Limited Edition at a recommended customer price of $249.
That $249 figure is a launch MSRP, not a guaranteed 2026 street price. The B580 is most compelling when available near that level or at only a modest premium. If its price rises close to a substantially faster competing GPU, its value proposition changes.
Intel launched the B580 alongside partner models from Acer, ASRock, GUNNIR, ONIX, MAXSUN and Sparkle. A card such as the ASRock Arc B580 Steel Legend 12GB OC may offer a custom cooler or factory-overclocked design, but the additional cost should be weighed against actual cooling, noise, warranty and availability in the buyer’s region.

Before installation, check Intel’s driver-management guidance and the latest B580 support information. Intel listed a B580 support-page driver numbered 32.0.101.8861 dated July 7, 2026, while its broader Arc support page listed 32.0.101.8864 dated July 20, 2026. These later releases mean the launch driver used in the review is not a description of all current behavior.
Intel’s downloads information also shows an Ubuntu 22.04 LTS package listing, but Linux users should still verify current distribution, kernel and application compatibility rather than assuming the Windows review results transfer directly.
Who Should Consider the Arc B580?
- Consider it if you want 12GB of VRAM, modern DisplayPort 2.1 and HDMI 2.1 outputs, AV1 encode/decode support, and strong OpenVINO-compatible inference at a genuinely midrange price.
- Be cautious if you mainly play older DirectX 9 or DirectX 11 games, depend on consistent frame pacing, use an older platform, or expect identical performance across every game engine.
- Choose an alternative if your software requires CUDA, has stronger vendor-specific acceleration on NVIDIA or AMD, or a competing card offers better performance and more mature compatibility at a similar price.
The B580 is also a better fit for buyers willing to keep drivers current and investigate individual game or application behavior. It is not automatically the safest choice for a system that must work with minimal troubleshooting.
Verdict on Page 2
Page 2 presents the Arc B580 as a promising but workload-dependent midrange GPU. Intel Graphics Software was a welcome cleanup over Arc Control, although its launch feature set was incomplete. Blender performance was competitive with several older or similarly positioned cards without challenging NVIDIA’s lead. OpenCL compute was ordinary. AI inference was the clear highlight, with OpenVINO helping the B580 lead the tested Geekbench AI and MLPerf Client paths.
For buyers, the practical lesson is simple: the B580’s value comes from its combination of 12GB of memory, modern media and display features, improving drivers and favorable performance in selected modern workloads—not from universal dominance. Check current pricing and drivers, then read the gaming, power, thermal and final-verdict sections before buying.
