The original comparison put a 12-Xe-core Intel integrated GPU at about 6,300 points in 3DMark Time Spy Graphics, versus 3,620 for the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme and Radeon 890M in the ROG Xbox Ally X. Later retail results from Intel’s Panther Lake/Xe3-related Arc G3 Extreme handhelds show a substantial graphics advantage, but the ROG remains far cheaper and can still be the better buy.
What the original Panther Lake leak actually showed
The October 2025 report compared a leaked Intel Panther Lake 12-Xe-core iGPU result of roughly 6,300 points in 3DMark Time Spy Graphics with a reported 3,620 points for the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme/Radeon 890M in the ROG Xbox Ally X.

The report described that gap as a 72% Intel lead. Using the published rounded figures, however, the calculation is:
(6,300 ÷ 3,620 − 1) × 100 ≈ 74%
The 72% figure should therefore be attributed to the original report rather than treated as an independently verified calculation. More importantly, Time Spy Graphics is a GPU subtest, not a full-system score or a direct frame-rate measurement.

The comparison was not like for like
The leaked Intel platform was identified as a laptop-oriented Core Ultra X9 388H configuration, not necessarily a handheld-specific chip. The reported Intel system used LPDDR5X-8533 memory and had a stated power ceiling around 45 W. The ROG Xbox Ally X comparison used LPDDR5X-8000 memory and was tested in Turbo mode at up to 55 W.
Those details matter because integrated graphics share system memory with the CPU. Memory speed, cooling, firmware, drivers and sustained power limits can all change the result. A short benchmark run also cannot establish battery life, fan noise or performance after a long thermal cycle.
In other words, the leak showed that Intel’s architecture could be substantially faster in a particular graphics test. It did not prove that every Panther Lake handheld would deliver 72% more FPS than every Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme handheld.
The ROG Xbox Ally X is a strong baseline
The ROG Xbox Ally X uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme with Radeon 890M integrated graphics. Notebookcheck reported a 3,620-point Time Spy Graphics result in Turbo mode and found the newer handheld roughly 10–15% faster in gaming than the earlier ROG Ally X with the Z1 Extreme in its testing.

That makes the AMD device a serious handheld platform, not an obsolete product waiting to be displaced. Its results depend on wattage, cooling, memory bandwidth and the game being played, just as Intel’s results do.
Retail hardware gives Intel’s claim more credibility
The leak is no longer the strongest evidence. MSI’s Claw 8 EX AI+ is a retail handheld using Intel Arc G3 Extreme graphics derived from the Panther Lake/Xe3 generation. MSI describes it as the first handheld powered by Arc G3 Extreme. The Extreme configuration has 12 Xe3 cores, supports LPDDR5X memory up to 8,533 MT/s and is listed with an approximately 8–35 W configurable platform range. MSI also advertises XeSS 3, multi-frame generation, Xbox Mode, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.
Arc G3 Extreme is related to the leaked Panther Lake graphics technology, but it should not automatically be treated as the exact same Core Ultra X9 388H configuration. The retail device is useful follow-up evidence, not a perfect retest of the original leak.

Later benchmark results still show a large Intel lead
| Device or result | Time Spy Graphics | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| ROG Xbox Ally X | 3,620 in the original report | AMD baseline |
| Leaked Panther Lake iGPU | About 6,300 | Reported as 72% ahead |
| MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ | 6,534 | Versus 4,033 for the ROG in Tom’s Guide |
| MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ | 6,726 | Versus 4,029 for the ROG in Windows Central |
Tom’s Guide recorded approximately a 62% advantage for the MSI over its ROG result. Windows Central recorded approximately 67%. The differing percentages are expected: power modes, drivers, firmware, memory, cooling and test procedures were not identical.

These results broadly validate the direction of the leak. They do not turn the benchmark percentage into a universal gaming prediction.
What the graphics lead means in games
A higher Time Spy Graphics score is most useful in GPU-limited games. It may allow higher settings, a steadier frame rate or more headroom for a higher-resolution display. But the advantage will vary considerably.
- Native rendering: This is the clearest measure of the GPU’s actual rendering performance.
- Upscaling: AMD FSR and Intel XeSS can change the balance depending on image-quality settings and game support.
- Frame generation: XeSS 3 and other frame-generation features can raise displayed FPS without delivering the same improvement in native rendering or input latency.
- CPU-limited games: Strategy games, simulation titles and some emulators may show a smaller Intel advantage if the GPU is not the bottleneck.
- API and driver behavior: DirectX, Vulkan, older games, anti-cheat systems and unusual engines can behave differently on Intel Arc and AMD Radeon.
- Sustained performance: A short benchmark does not reveal whether clocks fall during a long session because of heat, battery limits or fan profiles.
Intel’s possible performance-per-watt advantage also remains a separate question. A lower stated power ceiling combined with a higher leaked score is suggestive, but it is not controlled frame-per-watt testing. Battery runtime and sustained gaming measurements are needed to establish efficiency.

Intel wins performance; AMD changes the value equation
The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ has an 8-inch 120Hz VRR display and premium handheld hardware. The ROG Xbox Ally X emphasizes its own ergonomics and Xbox-oriented software integration. These are product-level differences that a graphics benchmark cannot settle.

Which handheld should you buy?
Choose or keep the ROG Xbox Ally X if:
- Your budget is closer to $1,000 than $1,800.
- Your existing games already run well at 720p or 1080p.
- You value an established AMD handheld platform and Xbox-oriented software.
- You care more about value and portability than maximum integrated-GPU performance.
- You will often play away from a charger, making battery behavior and sustained efficiency more important than peak scores.
Consider the Intel Arc G3 Extreme class if:
- Maximum integrated graphics performance is your priority.
- You play demanding AAA games and want higher settings or more frame-rate headroom.
- XeSS 3 and Intel’s frame-generation features fit your game library.
- 32GB of RAM, a larger 120Hz VRR display and premium hardware justify the price.
- You accept the cost and the risks associated with a newer platform and game-specific driver behavior.
Do not assume the Intel graphics lead automatically means better CPU performance, emulation, desktop responsiveness or battery life. Those require separate testing. Also compare a $1,799 handheld with gaming laptops containing discrete GPUs, which may offer more raw performance per dollar but less console-like portability.
Verdict
Intel’s Panther Lake/Xe3 graphics direction has held up better than the original leak’s wording suggested. Retail Arc G3 Extreme results show a major graphics advantage over the Radeon 890M in the ROG Xbox Ally X, although the measured lead varies from review to review and is not a guaranteed FPS uplift.
Intel is the absolute performance winner. The ROG Xbox Ally X is likely the value and accessibility winner. The $800 reported price difference is large enough that the Intel handheld is not automatically the better purchase. Buy it for maximum premium-handheld graphics performance—not simply because one leaked benchmark said “72%.”
