It is a .NET interop assembly imported from the RealAudioObjects COM type library, historically associated with the old RealPlayer ActiveX control.
The safest fix is to identify the program showing the error and repair or reinstall that program. Do not begin by copying a replacement file into System32 or SysWOW64.

What interop.realaudioobjects.dll belongs to
The file is a managed .NET wrapper for a COM component named RealAudioObjects. That component was used by older software that embedded or automated RealPlayer technology.
This does not mean that every installation of RealPlayer contains the exact same managed assembly. An application may have generated or redistributed its own copy of the wrapper. Public file inventories have associated the assembly with unrelated legacy programs, including Tehranica and HalpTV. Those examples do not prove which program is installed on your computer.

It is also not the same file as rmoc3260.dll. That was a native RealPlayer ActiveX component. interop.realaudioobjects.dll is the managed interop layer that allows a .NET application to communicate with the COM type library.
There is no verified evidence that this file ships with Windows. It should not normally be treated as a file belonging in:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- The Windows component store
Some third-party inventories report a 32-bit assembly, version 1.0.0.0, and a size of approximately 52 KB. Those details are not an official Microsoft or RealNetworks file manifest, so they should not be used to decide whether a downloaded copy is genuine.
Fix 1: Identify and repair the application named in the error
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
This is the most likely solution because the missing file is normally private to the older program that installed it.
First, record the application name and executable path shown in the error. If the message does not identify the program, check the shortcut:
- Right-click the program’s shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, read the Target field.
- Note the executable name and its installation folder.
You can also check which program is associated with the folder containing the file:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for the program named in the error or the program whose executable you identified.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
Not every desktop application provides an Advanced options page. For a traditional installer, use Control Panel instead:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Repair or Change.
- Follow the installer prompts.
Start the program again after the repair finishes. The repair worked if the application opens without reporting interop.realaudioobjects.dll.
If the program still fails, inspect its installation folder before doing anything else. A legitimate installation may contain:
interop.realaudioobjects.dll- An
AxInteropassembly - The application’s
.configfile - RealPlayer or other native media component files
If the wrapper is present but the error remains, the message may refer to a missing dependency or an incompatible COM component. Repairing the complete application is safer than replacing only the named file.

Fix 2: Uninstall and reinstall the parent program
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
If Repair is unavailable or does not restore the file, reinstall the program that displays the error.

Look for saved projects, media libraries, profiles, configuration files, or license information. Do not delete personal data unless the program’s documentation specifically requires it.
Then:
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Locate the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows when the uninstall completes.
- Install the program again from its original vendor installer or trusted installation media.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator if the application is old and the installation requires elevated permissions.
- Start the program once after installation completes.
For older software, use the original installer whenever possible. A current download may be a different product build and may not include the same RealAudioObjects integration.
If the application is no longer maintained, use an archived installer only when its authenticity can be established. Avoid installers that bundle unrelated “DLL repair” utilities or change browser and security settings.
Fix 3: Repair the compatible RealPlayer component
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
This step applies only when the affected program actually uses RealPlayer’s COM or ActiveX component. Installing RealPlayer is not a general solution for every interop.realaudioobjects.dll error.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe older application may expect a particular RealPlayer component, including the native ActiveX file historically associated with RealAudioObjects. A current RealPlayer release may not be compatible with software designed for an older control.
Use this order:
- Check the affected program’s original documentation or installer media.
- Look for a RealPlayer prerequisite or bundled media component.
- Uninstall the incompatible RealPlayer installation only if the application’s documentation indicates that it is required.
- Install the compatible release from the application vendor’s original media or an official RealNetworks support channel.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the affected application.
If the program works after this step, the missing managed assembly was probably only part of a larger RealPlayer integration. If it still fails, return to the parent application’s installer rather than copying individual RealPlayer files.
Do not rename rmoc3260.dll, AxInterop.RealAudioObjects.dll, or another RealPlayer file to create a substitute. These files serve different roles.
Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine and protection history
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
Security software may quarantine an old interop assembly because the parent application is obsolete, unsigned, or uses legacy ActiveX behavior.
To check Microsoft Defender:
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection associated with the affected application or its installation folder.
Restore the file only when all of the following are true:

- You recognize the application.
- The application came from a trusted vendor, original media, or known installer.
- The detection clearly identifies the quarantined file.
- You have checked that the installer itself was not tampered with.
After restoration, repair or reinstall the parent application. That restores the complete file set and any required dependencies.
If the file was removed from an untrusted download, do not restore it. Remove the application and run a full security scan instead.
Fix 5: Check whether the application is loading the wrong copy
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
A program can fail even when a file with the right name exists somewhere on the computer. Windows applications usually search their own installation directory and configured assembly locations. They do not automatically use a copy placed in a system folder.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
To investigate:
- Find the application’s executable from its shortcut.
- Open the executable’s folder.
- Check whether
interop.realaudioobjects.dllis located there. - Look for an
AxInteropcompanion assembly. - Look for the application’s
.configfile. - Check whether the program has separate
x86,x64, or plugin folders. - Start the application again from its normal shortcut.
Do not copy the file into multiple folders as a test. That can create confusing duplicate versions and does not repair a missing native dependency or incorrect assembly configuration.
If the file exists in the expected folder but Windows reports that the specified module cannot be found, the named assembly may be present while one of its dependencies is missing. Reinstalling the complete application is the appropriate next step.
Fix 6: Test 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes
The publicly reported assembly is 32-bit. A 64-bit edition of Windows can run many 32-bit applications, but the application must use the intended 32-bit .NET and COM environment.
This is not solved by copying the file to both system directories. In Windows terminology:
Recommended Free Tools
System32contains 64-bit system components on 64-bit Windows.SysWOW64contains 32-bit system components.- An application-private .NET assembly normally belongs with the application, not in either folder.
To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Read System type.
If the old application is 32-bit, reinstall its 32-bit version and any required 32-bit prerequisite. If the installer offers separate editions, use the architecture specified by the application documentation.
You can also test compatibility settings:
- Right-click the application executable or shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Run this program in compatibility mode for.
- Choose an older Windows version that matches the application’s documentation.
- Select Apply, then OK.
- Start the program.
Compatibility mode may help an obsolete application, but it cannot recreate a missing assembly or an incompatible RealPlayer component.
Fix 7: Check optional .NET Framework features
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
interop.realaudioobjects.dll is a .NET interop assembly, but enabling a .NET feature does not automatically restore this particular file. It may help only if the application also requires an older .NET Framework version.

- Look for .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
- Enable it only if the application’s documentation or installer requires it.
- Select OK.
- Allow Windows to download or install the component.
- Restart Windows.
- Repair or reinstall the affected application.
Do not enable random legacy components simply because the DLL is missing. The file must still be supplied by the application installer.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix 8: Update or reinstall related drivers only when the application points to one
Time needed: 15 to 30 minutes
A graphics, audio, or capture driver does not normally install interop.realaudioobjects.dll. Driver work is relevant only when the affected legacy program also reports hardware initialization errors, fails while opening audio or video, or was broken after a hardware change.
To check drivers:
- Right-click the Start button.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a clean reinstall:
- In Device Manager, right-click the affected device.
- Select Uninstall device.
- Confirm only if you have the correct replacement driver available.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the driver from the hardware manufacturer’s official support page.
Outbyte Driver Updater can reduce the work of hunting through many driver versions; its free scan identifies outdated drivers, while driver installation is handled by the full version. For this file, however, reinstalling the parent application remains the definitive fix.
If Device Manager shows no relevant warning, stop pursuing drivers and return to the application repair steps.

Time needed: 20 to 45 minutes
Use system repair commands only when other Windows components are also failing. These commands do not normally recreate an application-private interop assembly.
Open an elevated Terminal or Command Prompt:
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Terminal. - Right-click Windows Terminal.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows after both commands complete and test the application again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker. If either command reports corruption that it cannot repair, install pending Windows updates and restart before running the commands again.
Outbyte PC Repair can make it easier to identify broader Windows problems when repeatedly running SFC and DISM is not revealing what changed; its free scan shows detected issues, while repair is handled by the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling the application that owns this DLL.
Why random DLL downloads are a poor fix
Downloading interop.realaudioobjects.dll from an unrelated DLL website is risky because:
- The file may contain malware.
- Its architecture may be wrong.
- Its version may not match the application.
- It may have been modified or repackaged.
- The application may also need an
AxInteropassembly or native RealPlayer dependency. - “The specified module could not be found” may identify a dependency problem rather than the named file.
- Copying it into a system folder does not repair the parent application.
There is no verified Microsoft or RealNetworks standalone download page for this exact DLL. Use the affected program’s official installer, original installation media, or a trustworthy official vendor support channel instead.
Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is intended for native DLLs and ActiveX controls that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer.
A generated .NET interop assembly normally is not repaired with:

regsvr32 interop.realaudioobjects.dll
That command can produce an error stating that DllRegisterServer was not found. Microsoft’s Regasm.exe is used for specific managed assemblies that are deliberately exposed to COM, but it is not a general repair command for an application’s private interop wrapper.
Repair or reinstall the program instead.
Likely causes and the correct response
| Likely cause | Correct response |
|---|---|
| The parent application was damaged or incompletely installed | Use Repair, then reinstall if necessary |
| Antivirus quarantined the assembly | Check quarantine and restore only a trusted copy |
| The application expects an old RealPlayer component | Install the compatible component from an official source |
| A native dependency is missing | Reinstall the complete application and its prerequisites |
| The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit build is installed | Install the application architecture it requires |
| Windows has broader corruption | Run DISM, then SFC |
| The program is obsolete | Use verified original media or replace the application |
| A driver is also malfunctioning | Check Device Manager and the hardware vendor’s driver |
FAQ
Is interop.realaudioobjects.dll part of Windows?
No verified evidence shows that it is a Windows system component. It is an application-related .NET interop assembly.
Is it the same as rmoc3260.dll?
No. rmoc3260.dll was a native RealPlayer ActiveX component. interop.realaudioobjects.dll is a managed wrapper associated with the RealAudioObjects type library.
Which program installed it?
The error dialog, executable path, installed-program list, and nearby files are more reliable than the DLL name. Public inventories show that unrelated legacy applications have bundled the assembly.
Do I need RealPlayer?
Only if the affected application uses the RealPlayer COM or ActiveX component. Do not install RealPlayer automatically for an unrelated program.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWill Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET restore the file?
There is no evidence that those general runtimes automatically restore this application-specific assembly. An old program may require .NET Framework separately, but its installer must supply the DLL.
Should I place the file in System32?
No. Keep an application-private assembly with the application that installed it.
Why does the error say the specified module was not found when the DLL exists?
A dependency may be missing, the assembly may be the wrong architecture, or the application may be loading a different installation directory. Repair the complete program.
What if only one Windows user sees the error?
Test the program from another user profile. If it works there, check the first profile’s application data, permissions, compatibility settings, and per-user security history.
What if the application is too old for Windows 10 or Windows 11?
Try compatibility settings after backing up application data. If the application still fails, use verified original media or replace it with supported software. A current RealPlayer build may not support every program designed for the old ActiveX control.
Is System Restore the best solution?
Usually not. Repairing or reinstalling the parent application is more direct. Use System Restore only when a restore point predates the failure and normal application repair is unavailable.
Final diagnostic checklist
Before considering the problem resolved, confirm that:
Quick Recap
- You identified the program displaying the error.
- You repaired or reinstalled that program.
- The assembly is located with the application rather than in a Windows system folder.
- Any required RealPlayer component came from a trusted official source.
- Antivirus quarantine and protection history were checked.
- You did not rename another DLL or use
regsvr32indiscriminately. - The application architecture matches the installed Windows environment.
- DISM and SFC were used only for broader Windows corruption.
- The program now starts and performs the function that previously triggered the error.
