intldate.dll is a genuine Microsoft Office component, not a normal Windows system DLL. If Word, Outlook, or another Office application reports that intldate.dll is missing, repair the installed Office product instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
What this file actually does
intldate.dll, whose internal filename is INTLDATE.DLL, is delivered as part of Microsoft Office. Microsoft update file lists document it in Office and Outlook packages, including Office 2016 updates with versions such as 16.0.4684.1000 and 16.0.4996.1000.
It is not normally a Windows component stored in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. A commonly documented location for a 32-bit Click-to-Run Office 2016 installation is:

Your path can differ because of the Office generation, installation technology, language, architecture, or product edition. Do not treat the example path as a universal location.

Microsoft Office exists in both 32-bit and 64-bit editions. A 32-bit Office installation commonly runs on 64-bit Windows, so the Windows architecture alone does not tell you which copy of the file is correct.
The safest source is the Microsoft Office installer or repair process. Microsoft’s official Office update file documentation confirms that intldate.dll belongs to Office rather than to a random third-party application.

The error often appears after an Office update, rollback, failed installation, disk cleanup, antivirus quarantine, or removal of one Office installation while another remains. The message does not prove which event caused it, so check the repair and security history below.
Fix 1: Repair Microsoft Office
Office repair is the most likely solution because Microsoft’s installer can restore the correct file, dependencies, architecture, and supporting files together.
Windows 11
- Close Word, Excel, Outlook, and other Office programs.
- Right-click Start and select Installed apps.
- Find Microsoft 365, Microsoft Office, or the relevant Office product.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Modify.
- Select Quick Repair, then choose Repair.
- Follow the prompts and restart Windows.
- Try the Office application again.
Quick Repair is faster and normally requires less downloading. If the error remains, repeat the process and choose Online Repair, then Repair.
Online Repair replaces or repairs the complete Office installation, so it can take longer and may reset parts of the installation. It is the better choice when intldate.dll is missing after an update or when Quick Repair does not help.
Windows 10
- Save your work and close all Office programs.
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps, then Apps & features.
- Select Microsoft 365 or Microsoft Office.
- Choose Modify.
- Approve the administrator prompt if Windows displays one.
- Run Quick Repair first.
- Restart Windows and test Office.
- If the error remains, run Online Repair.
An older MSI-based Office installation may show Repair > Continue instead of Quick Repair and Online Repair. Follow that repair wizard, restart Windows, and test the application.
How to tell whether repair worked
Repair succeeded if Word, Outlook, or the affected Office program opens without the intldate.dll message. You can also check the Office installation folder used by that program, but do not copy files into it manually.

Fix 2: Update Office from inside an Office application
A partial or mismatched update can leave Office files from different builds together. If any Office application opens, install its pending updates.
- Open Word, Excel, or Outlook.
- Select File.
- Choose Account or Office Account.
- Select Update Options.
- Choose Update Now.
- If Enable Updates appears instead, select it first, then return to Update Options > Update Now.
- Restart Windows after the update finishes.
If Office will not open at all, skip this step and use Online Repair or the official reinstall process. Microsoft’s Office update instructions provide the same supported update path.
Do not assume that finding a different intldate.dll version online will solve an update mismatch. Office files are supplied as a set, and replacing only one file can create a new incompatibility.
Fix 3: Check Windows Security quarantine
Microsoft Defender or another antivirus product may have removed the file. Do not restore a file solely because its name is intldate.dll; first confirm that the detection points to the genuine Office installation.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Open any detection that mentions
intldate.dll. - Inspect its full path and detection details.
- If the path belongs to the installed Microsoft Office directory and the Office installation is trusted, follow Microsoft’s available restore or allow instructions.
- Run Office Online Repair afterward so the installer can supply the correct component.
- If the file was found in a temporary folder, download directory, or unrelated application directory, do not restore it automatically. Run a full scan and repair Office instead.
Microsoft notes that Protection History keeps events only for a limited period. If the quarantine event is no longer available, Online Repair is safer than trying to reconstruct what was removed.
Use Microsoft’s Protection History guidance if the restore controls are unclear. Allowing a malicious file can expose the computer, so verify the path before taking that action.
Fix 4: Check for multiple Office installations and architecture conflicts
A computer can contain Microsoft 365, an older standalone Office product, a trial edition, or separate 32-bit and 64-bit components. You may repair one installation while Outlook or Word continues loading another.
Identify installed Office products
- Open Settings.
- Go to Apps > Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps > Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for Office and Microsoft 365.
- Note every listed Office product.
- Remove obsolete or conflicting Office installations only after confirming that you have the account, license, or installation media needed for the product you intend to keep.
Do not remove Office blindly if the computer belongs to an employer or school. An organization may use a managed deployment that must be repaired by its administrator.
Check the Office bitness
From Word or Excel:
- Open the application if possible.
- Select File > Account.
- Choose About Word, About Excel, or the corresponding product entry.
- Read whether the installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.
The correct intldate.dll must come from the same Office installation and architecture as the affected application. Do not place a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit Office directory, or the reverse. Do not copy either version into System32 or SysWOW64.

Microsoft says Microsoft 365 normally installs 64-bit Office unless an existing 32-bit Office installation or an incompatible standalone application causes the 32-bit edition to be selected. Its official installation guidance explains this behavior.
Fix 5: Reinstall Office from Microsoft
If Online Repair does not restore Office, reinstall the licensed product from Microsoft rather than replacing one DLL.

- Open Microsoft’s Microsoft 365 and Office installation page.
- Sign in with the account associated with the Office license.
- Select Install apps.
- Download the official installer.
- Run it and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Open Word or Outlook and sign in if requested.
- Install Office updates through File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
If the installer detects an existing 32-bit Office installation, it may preserve or select that architecture. Do not force an architecture change unless you have checked compatibility with add-ins, drivers, and other standalone Office applications.
If more than one Office product is listed, uninstall the damaged or conflicting product through Windows first, then reinstall the version you actually use. A repair may affect the entire Office suite, not just Outlook or Word.
Office 2007 is a special case. Microsoft support for Office 2007 ended on October 10, 2017, and a current installer may not be available for it. Reinstallation may require original media or an organization’s deployment source. Do not substitute a DLL from a newer Office release.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
intldate.dll is normally an Office file, so Windows component repair is secondary. Use these commands if Windows itself is reporting corruption, several Windows applications are failing, or Office repair reports broader system problems.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Run Office Online Repair again if the Office error remains.
DISM repairs the Windows image, while SFC checks protected Windows system files. They do not normally replace an Office-specific file. Microsoft documents these commands in its Windows image repair guidance and Windows repair instructions.
If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, restart and retest Office. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, run DISM again, restart, and repeat SFC once. Persistent Office-specific errors still require Office repair or reinstall.

Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32 for this error
regsvr32 is not a universal DLL repair command. It is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer.

There is no verified evidence that intldate.dll is a self-registering COM component. Running this command:
regsvr32 intldate.dll
will commonly produce an error such as DllRegisterServer was not found, or it will fail to solve the missing-file problem.
If you already ran it, do not keep trying different copies or switches. Repair Office instead. Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation explains what the command is designed to register.
Fix 8: Check drivers only when the evidence points there
A missing Office DLL is not normally a graphics, sound, chipset, or printer-driver problem. Device Manager is useful only if the error is accompanied by device failures, display problems, crashes, or another program reporting a driver issue.
To inspect devices:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories showing a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
Do not update unrelated drivers merely because intldate.dll is missing. If a real device problem is present, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify what needs updating; the full version performs the installation, but it is optional and does not replace Office repair.
Fix 9: Use System Restore only for a clear recent change
If the error began immediately after an Office installation, software removal, driver change, or system update, System Restore may reverse that change when a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next > Finish.
System Restore does not delete personal documents, but it can remove recently installed programs, updates, drivers, and settings. It is unavailable when no suitable restore point exists. Microsoft explains the limitations in its System Restore guidance.
Why downloading intldate.dll is a bad first fix
Random DLL download pages cannot reliably tell you which Office generation, language, update branch, or architecture your installation requires. A replacement may have the wrong version, missing dependencies, incompatible exports, or malicious code. Placing it beside an application, in System32, or in SysWOW64 can also hide the underlying Office damage.

If the error continues after repair and reinstall
Check these points before escalating:
- Confirm that the application is using the Office installation you repaired.
- Look for a second Office product under Settings > Apps.
- Check Windows Security Protection History for another quarantine event.
- Note whether the message names another missing DLL. “The specified module could not be found” can refer to a dependency rather than
intldate.dllitself. - Check the Office installation path and available disk space.
- Review Event Viewer for errors at the time Office fails.
- Run a malware scan if an unofficial DLL was previously copied into the Office folder.
- Check disk health if files repeatedly disappear or installations fail.
- Contact your organization’s administrator if Office is centrally managed.
Do not keep copying files into the Office directory. Repeated file loss after repair points to quarantine, storage failure, malware, or a deployment problem that needs investigation.

FAQ
Is intldate.dll part of Windows?
No. It is documented as a Microsoft Office component. It should not normally be treated as a Windows core DLL or copied into System32.
Does Outlook use intldate.dll?
Microsoft update records list the file in Outlook and Office update packages. Outlook may therefore show the error, although the exact affected program depends on the Office installation and the operation being performed.

Does Microsoft 365 contain this file?
Microsoft’s public update records establish the file’s Office association, but they do not prove that every current Microsoft 365 build uses the same internal file layout. Let the installed Microsoft 365 repair or installer supply its own files.
Can I copy the file from another computer?
Do not do this as a general fix. The other computer may have a different Office release, language, update level, or architecture. Use a trusted Office repair or reinstall instead.
Is regsvr32 intldate.dll required?
No verified evidence shows that this file is a self-registering COM component. regsvr32 is not the appropriate normal repair method.
Should I run SFC first?
Usually no. Because intldate.dll belongs to Office, repair Office first. Run DISM and SFC when Windows corruption is also suspected or Office repair indicates a wider system problem.

Do not assume it is genuine. A copy in a temporary folder, download directory, or unrelated application directory should be scanned and compared with the trusted Office installation. Repair Office rather than trusting the copy.
Is Office 2007 supported?
Microsoft support for Office 2007 has ended. Reinstallation may require original media or an organization’s deployment source, and a newer Office DLL should not be substituted for it.
