His suggestion that Angstrom Levy may have sent Mark into Fortnite was a joke, not a definitive ruling about the show’s canon.
What happens in the finale
During Mark and Angstrom Levy’s multiverse confrontation, Mark is thrown through alternate realities. When he returns to the fight, he has Fortnite’s Dragon’s Breath sniper rifle. The weapon is the visual clue behind the question of how Mark “got into Fortnite.”

Angstrom’s dimension-hopping powers provide the story mechanism for Mark’s brief trips between realities. In a Skybound behind-the-scenes feature published April 16, 2024, supervising producer and art director Shaun O’Neil described Angstrom as “the anchor” for the season’s journeys into other dimensions: Skybound’s season 2 finale feature.
What Robert Kirkman said about the Fortnite weapon
Invincible creator Robert Kirkman told GamesRadar that the rifle was “the actual model for the Dragon’s Breath sniper rifle.” He said the reference was approved with Epic Games and described it as an official Easter egg.

Kirkman also said the idea came together organically while he was writing the episode and the team was discussing Invincible’s presence in Fortnite. That explains the production-side reason for the recognizable weapon: it was a deliberate, approved nod to the game, rather than an accidental resemblance. The approval detail is Kirkman’s account; no direct Epic announcement about this specific scene is established here.
Is Mark canonically in Fortnite?
Not definitively. Kirkman joked that “maybe Angstrom sent him there and everything in the game is canon.” The line is playful speculation, not confirmation that Mark entered Fortnite Battle Royale or that Fortnite’s events are part of Invincible continuity. The episode shows the rifle as a crossover Easter egg; it does not settle the broader canon question.

How the cameo fits the multiverse sequence
The Fortnite reference is one stop in a much larger dimension-hopping sequence, not the finale’s central plot twist. Co-showrunner Simon Racioppa told TV Insider that the sequence drew on dimensions from the comics, including settings associated with Spider-Man, Batman, and The Walking Dead: TV Insider’s April 4, 2024 interview with Racioppa.
The finale aired April 4, 2024. Its quick Fortnite nod works because the rifle makes the reference legible, while Angstrom’s power gives the episode a natural way to move Mark across realities.
