The available official Rockstar Newswire result reviewed here did not confirm an upgrade, and no release date or technical details are established.
What does “coming this year” mean?
On February 6, 2026, Insider Gaming reported that insider NateTheHate still understood the plan to be a release in 2026. The article reproduced his statement: “As far as I know, RDR2 is this year.” That is an attributed, unconfirmed claim—not a release announcement from Rockstar.

Has Rockstar confirmed an RDR2 upgrade?
The official Rockstar Newswire Red Dead Online index result reviewed for this article did not surface an RDR2 upgrade announcement. The index is not a complete official status statement, so its omission does not prove that no announcement exists. Based on the available evidence, Rockstar has not confirmed the rumored upgrade.

Play now or wait?
| Choice | What is established | What remains uncertain |
|---|---|---|
| Play the existing version | Rockstar said the PS4 and Xbox One versions are playable on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility. | The cited compatibility statement does not promise a dedicated upgrade or specify its features. |
| Wait for a possible upgrade | An insider’s reported understanding, published by Insider Gaming on February 6, 2026, points to a 2026 target. | Rockstar confirmation, release date, platforms, price, technical targets, and upgrade policy are not established. |
If you want to play now, the documented option is the existing PS4 or Xbox One version on compatible newer consoles. If a dedicated upgrade is important to you, waiting means relying on an unconfirmed report; the cited sources do not establish what it would add or whether it would be free for existing owners.
