Yes—AION 2 is listed as free to play on Steam, so a purchase is not listed as necessary to access the global PC game. Free access does not mean every feature is free: NC has described memberships, paid passes, cosmetics, and premium-currency exchange. The regional and global services have different launch timelines and published details, so check which version a price or feature refers to.
What “free to play” means for AION 2
Steam lists AION 2 as free to play and gives October 5, 2026 as the global PC release date. That listing establishes the access price shown for the Steam version; it does not mean every in-game system or item is available without spending. See AION 2 on Steam.
NC announced a November 19, 2025 launch in Korea and Taiwan. Those regional announcements describe a monetization model, but they are not a substitute for the current terms of the global service. NC’s regional launch and business-model announcement.
How the global service is reported to make money
The detailed global terms below come from AION 2 Hub’s July 2026 report, which summarizes NC’s July 8 business-model notice. The official notice’s full contents were not independently accessible for confirmation, so treat its reported price and feature details as subject to change and check NC’s current notice or the game before paying. Membership and access to the player economy
The report says the global service uses Kina as a gameplay-earned Market currency and Quna as premium currency. An active Membership is required to use the player-driven Market and the Kina–Quna Exchange, according to the report. It gives the Membership price as $15 per month and says it includes a special shop and additional gameplay benefits, without specifying those other benefits. Confirm the live price, billing terms, and feature list in the current official notice before subscribing.
Shop purchases and Daeva Pass
The reported in-game shop offers appearance items and consumables. The Daeva Pass reportedly has a free Standard track and a paid Premium track. Its rewards may include cosmetics, items, upgrade materials, and other currencies. The available information does not establish whether those materials materially affect gear progression, so it is not enough to label the paid track either cosmetics-only or definitively pay-to-win.

What was announced for Korea and Taiwan
For the Korea and Taiwan service launched November 19, 2025, NC’s September 2025 announcement described memberships and passes as convenience options, cosmetic items such as costumes, weapon skins, pets, and wings, and an ability to exchange in-game currency for premium currency. These are details of the announced regional model, not proof that current global terms are identical.
In June 2026, NC said it had consolidated its previous three-tier membership structure into one Special Quai Membership, with improved benefits at a reduced price. The announcement did not state the revised price or list the benefits. NC’s membership update.

Does free-to-play mean you have to spend?
No purchase is listed as necessary to access the global PC game on Steam. Spending is an option for membership, the paid pass track, shop items, or other premium features; the reported Market and currency exchange restrictions are important if you want to use those particular systems.
NC reported that AION 2 generated KRW 100 billion in cumulative revenue within 46 days of its November 19, 2025 launch, and that more than one million characters had purchased memberships by January 3, 2026. These are company-reported results for the launched service, not a measure of what any individual player needs to spend or a global-only statistic. The character count also should not be read as a count of distinct people. NC’s January 2026 announcement.

What to check before spending
- Confirm the service and region. Do not assume that a Korea/Taiwan announcement describes the global PC version.
- Check the current Membership terms. Verify the recurring price, billing period, and which features require an active subscription.
- Read the pass reward list. The reported Premium track can include materials and currencies as well as cosmetics.
- Separate access from convenience and economy features. Free-to-play access does not establish free access to the Market, exchange, or every paid reward.
