Is Among Us Story: On Guard free, and what platforms can you play it on?

No free full-game download is available yet. Among Us Story: On Guard is scheduled to launch on February 17, 2027, and Innersloth has not announced its price. The announced platforms are Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Android, iOS and PC. A free, time-limited demo was announced for October 8–15, 2026, but that preview should not be treated as the full game.

Release status, date and price

Among Us Story: On Guard is an upcoming standalone game rather than a newly released mode for the existing multiplayer Among Us. Innersloth’s October 8, 2026 announcement set the full launch for February 17, 2027. Until that release, a storefront page or a playable demo is not evidence that the complete game is available.

The same announcement did not include a price. Innersloth had already said on June 5, 2026, that it had not finalized pricing, and the October update supplied no replacement figure. That means the answer to “Is it free?” is not “yes” or “no” yet for the finished product: there is no free full-game version to download now, and the eventual price remains unannounced. The June statement is a dated status report, not a promise that the price will remain unknown forever.

What the launch announcement actually establishes

  • A firm target date exists for the complete game.
  • Five operating systems or console platforms have been named.
  • No launch price, regional price, edition breakdown or paid/free model has been published in the cited announcements.
  • Storefront pages and wishlists can appear before a game is purchasable; their presence does not move the release date forward.

Free demo versus the full game

Innersloth announced two separate preview opportunities in 2026. The first Steam demo ran from June 15 through June 22 and has ended. A second demo was scheduled as part of LudoNarraCon from October 8 through October 15. On October 13, the date of the latest availability check, that second window was still open according to the published schedule.

Why a demo does not answer the price question

A demo is a limited preview of an unreleased game. It can be free while the eventual product has a price, a different distribution model or additional editions. The October announcement did not say that the full game would be free, and it did not say that demo owners would receive the complete release. Treat the preview as a way to sample the opening experience, not as a permanent license.

When the October demo ends

The announcement gives October 15 as the end date but does not specify an exact closing hour or time zone. If you are trying to claim or launch it near the deadline, check the current Innersloth announcement and the relevant Steam or event page rather than assuming midnight in your local time. A page that stops offering the demo after the event is normal and does not indicate a problem with your account.

Platforms announced for On Guard

Innersloth’s latest platform statement names Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Android, iOS and PC. These are announced destinations for the release, not proof that the finished game is already downloadable on each one.

Platform What has been announced What is still unknown Practical implication
PC Included in the October 8 announcement; a Steam wishlist is available. Final price, system requirements and exact release-time details. Steam is the clearest place to watch for a PC demo or launch listing.
Nintendo Switch Named as a launch platform, alongside Switch 2. Digital-store listing, price, file size and whether every feature matches the PC version. Owners can wait for the Nintendo eShop page and its regional listing.
Nintendo Switch 2 Named separately from the original Switch. Whether the game has platform-specific enhancements, a separate purchase or upgrade treatment. A Switch 2 console is optional hardware; PC, mobile and the original Switch are also announced.
Android Named as a mobile platform. Supported Android versions, chipsets, storage, controller support and storefront details. Do not infer compatibility for a particular phone until Innersloth publishes requirements.
iOS Named as a mobile platform. Minimum iOS version, supported devices, storage and App Store timing. Check the eventual App Store listing for your exact iPhone or iPad model.

The June reveal listed PC and both Switch generations; the October update expanded the announced list to include Android and iOS. Use the October list when deciding where to follow the game. Platform names alone do not establish cross-save, cross-play, controller support or identical performance, because none of those features was specified in the cited material.

What kind of game is it?

On Guard is described as a single-player narrative adventure set in the Among Us universe. You play a Guard in a MIRA Research & Development training simulator. The official description centers on securing a ship, completing tasks, finding clues, investigating murders and reaching one of three endings.

  • Nintendo Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games.***

How that differs from Among Us

The original Among Us is best known as a multiplayer social-deduction game in which players perform tasks while trying to identify impostors. On Guard is presented as a separate, story-led experience for one player. Its Guard role, investigations and branching endings indicate a fixed narrative framework rather than a standard lobby of human players. Do not assume that owning the original game grants access to this title, or that this title reproduces the original game’s multiplayer rules.

What the announced features suggest

  • Tasks: duties on the ship form part of the Guard’s work and investigation.
  • Clues: observation and evidence-finding are central to progressing through the mystery.
  • Murders: the story includes murder investigations, giving the narrative its detective focus.
  • Three endings: the official description confirms three possible outcomes, but does not explain the decisions or conditions that determine them.

Those details describe the premise, not a complete feature list. Innersloth has not published a full breakdown of chapters, runtime, accessibility options, save systems, difficulty settings or hardware requirements in the material cited here.

Choosing a platform

PC

PC is the only announced platform with a specifically mentioned Steam wishlist and the distribution route used for the June demo. If you want the earliest notification of a PC listing or demo change, follow the Steam page and confirm that the publisher is Innersloth. Before launch, check the final system-requirements panel; none was included in the announcements summarized here.

Nintendo Switch and Switch 2

Both Nintendo systems are explicitly listed. If you already own one, the eventual eShop listing should answer the questions that the announcement cannot: regional price, download size, supported languages and whether the same purchase works across generations. If you do not own either console, buying hardware solely for this unreleased game is a separate decision; PC and mobile are also announced alternatives.

Android and iOS

The mobile announcement identifies operating systems but not individual devices. “Android” does not guarantee support for every Android phone, and “iOS” does not guarantee support for every older iPhone or iPad. Wait for the store pages to state minimum operating-system versions, compatible models, storage needs and any required account or controller features. A device that can run the original Among Us should not automatically be assumed to run this newer narrative game.

Availability timeline

  1. June 5, 2026: Innersloth revealed the single-player project, described its Guard-and-investigation premise and said pricing had not been finalized.
  2. June 15–22, 2026: The first announced Steam demo was available for a limited period; that window has passed.
  3. October 8, 2026: Innersloth announced the February 17, 2027 launch date, named the expanded platform list and announced the LudoNarraCon demo window.
  4. October 8–15, 2026: The second demo was scheduled to run during LudoNarraCon. The published announcement did not give a closing hour or time zone.
  5. February 17, 2027: The scheduled full-game launch date. The price was still not stated in the latest announcement.

How to check whether you can play it

  1. Identify your intended platform: Steam on PC, Nintendo eShop, Google Play or the Apple App Store.
  2. Look for a listing published by Innersloth and verify that it refers to Among Us Story: On Guard, not the original multiplayer game.
  3. Read the listing’s release status. A wishlist button, “coming soon” label or demo badge is different from a purchase or install button for the full game.
  4. For a demo, confirm the event dates and any regional restrictions. Near a deadline, check the stated time zone instead of guessing.
  5. When the full listing appears, review price, supported devices, storage and account requirements before downloading.

These checks matter because the announcements establish future platform support but do not establish that every storefront will publish its page simultaneously. Mobile device compatibility and console-store details are especially likely to appear only in the final listings.

Common misconceptions

“The demo is free, so the game is free.”

Not necessarily. The October preview is temporary, while the complete product has a later launch and no announced price.

“A Steam page means I can play the full game now.”

A Steam page can support wishlisting or a time-limited demo before release. Check whether the page offers the complete product or only the preview.

“The mobile versions are already confirmed for my phone.”

Only the Android and iOS platforms have been named. Specific operating-system versions and device requirements have not been published in the cited announcements.

“It is just the original Among Us with a story mode.”

Innersloth describes a standalone, single-player narrative adventure starring a Guard in a training simulator. The announced three-ending investigation structure sets it apart from the original game’s multiplayer format.

What to expect next

The most useful future updates will be the final price, storefront pages for each region, device and PC requirements, and clarification of how the Switch generations and mobile editions are handled. Until those details appear, the reliable facts are the scheduled launch, the five announced platforms, the limited 2026 demo windows and the single-player investigation premise. If you are deciding whether to wait, wishlist the version you want and reassess when its store page publishes the missing purchase and compatibility information.
