Apple Arcade is most worth it if you expect to play several games in its catalog, want games without ads or in-app purchases, or can share the subscription with family. It is a weaker fit if you want only one game, prefer titles outside the catalog, or expect to keep playing included games after cancelling. Before subscribing, check that the games you want are available in your region and work on your Apple devices.
What Apple Arcade includes
Apple Arcade is a subscription for unlimited access to a changing catalog of games. Apple says Arcade games have no ads or in-app purchases. The catalog spans genres including action, puzzle, strategy, adventure, simulation, board, card, and sports games.
Apple’s August 11, 2026 announcement described the catalog as 200+ games. The selection changes: Apple announced Block Blast!+ and Art of Fauna: Cozy Puzzles+ for September 3, 2026. Check the current catalog for the titles you want rather than treating a catalog count as a guarantee that a particular game will remain available.
Apple advertises Arcade for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV 4K, and Apple Vision Pro, with offline play available. Compatibility is not universal across the catalog: Apple distinguishes Arcade Originals, listed across those platforms, from App Store Greats, listed for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. Individual game and device requirements, as well as regional availability, can vary. See Apple’s Apple Arcade page and the relevant App Store listing for details.

How much Apple Arcade costs in the U.S.
Apple’s U.S. product page lists Apple Arcade at $6.99 per month or $49.99 per year. These are U.S. prices; prices and promotions can differ by country and change over time.
Apple’s August 11, 2026 announcement offered new subscribers a one-month free trial and said purchasers of a new eligible iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV could receive three months, subject to terms and eligibility restrictions. Check the offer shown for your account and purchase: neither promotion should be assumed to apply to every subscriber.

Who is most likely to get good value
Players who will use several games
The strongest case is a player who finds multiple appealing, compatible games and expects to play them over time. The subscription is harder to justify if you want one title for a short stretch and would rather pay for that game separately where it is available outside Arcade.

Families who will share it
Apple says Family Sharing can extend one Arcade subscription to up to five other family members, for a group of up to six people. The effective cost per person is lower only if more than one member actually plays; the maximum group size alone does not make the subscription worthwhile.
People who want a no-ad, no-purchase experience
Apple says Arcade games contain no ads or in-app purchases. That can suit players who prefer not to encounter advertising or purchase prompts while playing.

Players who switch Apple devices or play offline
Arcade supports multiple Apple platforms and Apple advertises offline play, which can be useful if you play away from a connection or move between devices. Confirm support for each game and device before relying on that flexibility.
People already weighing Apple One
Apple Arcade is included in Apple One’s U.S. Individual, Family, and Premier plans. Apple’s August 2026 announcement lists those plans at $19.95, $25.95, and $37.95 per month, respectively. Compare a bundle only if you would also use its other included services; Arcade’s inclusion does not make a bundle a saving by itself.

When it may not be worth paying
- You want just one game: A recurring fee may not suit a brief or single-game need.
- Your preferred games are elsewhere: A large catalog has little value if it does not include the titles you want or they do not run on your devices.
- You expect permanent ownership: Arcade provides access while the subscription is active, not permanent ownership of its games.
- You do not have a compatible Apple device: Check device and game compatibility before subscribing.
What happens if you cancel
Apple states that after cancellation, you can no longer play Arcade games, even if they remain downloaded. Downloading a game does not preserve access when the subscription ends.
Saved progress and game access are different. Apple says progress enabled through iCloud may be available if you resubscribe, while Apple Support cautions that some gameplay data may not be supported if you wait before resubscribing. Do not treat saved progress as a guarantee that every game will retain every kind of data. See Apple Support’s subscription and cancellation guidance.
Check these points before subscribing
- Find the games you actually want. Look through the current catalog and verify availability in your region.
- Check compatibility. Confirm each title supports the Apple device you plan to use; support differs among games and platforms.
- Estimate your use. Consider whether you will play often enough, and across enough titles, to justify a monthly or annual commitment.
- Count likely players. Include only family members who are likely to use Family Sharing.
- Compare billing and bundles. Weigh monthly flexibility against the listed annual price, and compare Apple One only if its other services matter to you.
- Decide whether subscription access is acceptable. Included games become unplayable after cancellation, even if still installed.
Do you need a controller?
No controller is required for Apple Arcade generally. Apple says many games support controllers, while some games on Apple TV 4K require one. Check the individual game’s App Store page for the controller icon and confirm that the controller works with both the game and your device before buying a wireless game controller for Apple Arcade.
