Arknights: Endfield makes a credible case for being a gacha game where the game comes first. Its real-time squad combat, exploration and factory automation give players substantial things to do beyond recruiting Operators. That is the basis of Hardcore Gamer reviewer James Cunningham’s January 2026 praise—but recruitment remains part of progression, and its currencies and banner tracking have been criticized as confusing. Whether Endfield is a good fit depends on how much you enjoy its connected combat-and-production loop, and how comfortable you are with its gacha systems.
What makes Arknights: Endfield different from other gacha games?
Endfield combines three loops that affect one another: real-time squad combat, exploration and industrial production. HYPERGRYPH co-founder and director Light Zhong described the design as an interconnected adventure in which those systems shape how players prepare and progress. The official PlayStation.Blog gameplay overview provides the clearest outline of that design.
Combat is built around switching Operators
Battles let you field up to four Operators. You can switch between them, use their skills and ultimates, and trigger combo skills. This makes Endfield’s moment-to-moment play more hands-on than a gacha RPG whose battles are mainly turn-based or automated. The appeal depends on whether you enjoy managing a squad in real time, rather than treating combat chiefly as a way to collect characters.

Factory building feeds the rest of the game
The Automated Industry Complex (AIC) lets you construct production lines for equipment, medical supplies and other resources. According to HYPERGRYPH, those systems affect exploration, resource management and combat preparation, rather than serving only as a detached base-building activity. Blueprints let you build, copy, relocate or dismantle production lines, giving the factory loop some flexibility as your needs change.
That interdependence is Endfield’s strongest distinction in the evidence available: factory planning is part of the RPG’s progression, not just a side feature beside it. Players who like optimizing resource flows may find it adds purpose between fights; players who want a more direct battle-and-collection loop may see the industrial layer as extra work.

Is Arknights: Endfield a good gacha game?
Hardcore Gamer reviewer James Cunningham answered yes in his January 20, 2026 review, calling Endfield “easily one of the best examples of gacha gaming, thanks to feeling like the gaming comes before the gacha.” That is a critic’s judgment, not an objective measure of fairness. The case for it is that combat, exploration and production are substantial systems in their own right, so the game’s identity is not limited to recruiting characters.
Gacha is still a material part of progression. GRYPHLINE’s official release preview describes recruitment and weapon systems, quota currencies, and adjustments to permits and rewards. It does not establish that every player can obtain any desired Operator or weapon without spending, nor does it provide a basis for a blanket claim that the system is fair or pressure-free.
There is also a usability concern. In an April 2026 interview, GamesRadar+ reported that players and reviewers found the currencies and banner tracking confusing. Lead developer Ryan said the team was examining how players are affected by gacha through questionnaires and in-game data; the interview described possible optimizations as under discussion, without firm changes to announce at that time. That makes the systems’ clarity a genuine counterpoint to the more appealing combat-and-factory design—not a detail to dismiss because the game offers other activities.

Is Arknights: Endfield worth playing?
Endfield is most promising for players who want a free-to-play action RPG with more to manage than character collection: real-time squad control, exploration and production that feeds back into preparation. Its factory system gives the game a distinct rhythm, alternating combat and exploration with planning and resource pipelines.
It is a less obvious recommendation if you dislike gacha recruitment, find multiple currencies frustrating, or primarily want a straightforward action RPG. The available evidence supports the game’s unusual systems and records one reviewer’s strong endorsement; it does not establish a universal verdict on long-term enjoyment, spending pressure or recruitment outcomes. Those are the practical questions to weigh alongside the design.

GRYPHLINE announced a worldwide release for January 22, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. UTC+8, listing PS5, PC, Android, iOS and the Epic Games Store. The announcement says saves synchronize across platforms on the same account. Check the official release information for platform details.
As of October 8, 2026, the Steam version had not yet launched: GRYPHLINE scheduled it, along with the Sanctuary of Ink update, for October 15, 2026. Its October 7 version communication also lists planned automation, targeting, controller and quality-of-life improvements. These are announced future changes as of October 8, not features that should be assumed to be live already.
Does Arknights: Endfield support controllers on mobile?
GRYPHLINE’s official release preview documents a mobile controller mode, so a controller is an optional way to play rather than a requirement. The announcement does not establish compatibility for every controller model or phone; check support for your particular device before buying an accessory.
How to judge Endfield against another gacha RPG
The gacha label alone does not tell you whether its play will suit you. Compare the structures that shape your time in the game:
