No. As of October 8, 2026, Ubisoft’s US free-offer pages do not list Assassin’s Creed III, and the Ubisoft Store lists its remastered version as a paid game. The “free on Uplay” claim is out of date. Uplay is the older name for Ubisoft’s launcher, which is now called Ubisoft Connect, so the free offer, if one existed, would appear there or on Ubisoft’s store pages.
What Ubisoft’s free-offer pages show
Ubisoft’s free-games page lists free-to-play and free-access titles such as Roller Champions, Brawlhalla and Rainbow Six Siege, among others. It does not show a paid single-player game being given away. The currently active free-offer page, checked on the same date, did not identify Assassin’s Creed III either. Both checks were of the US Ubisoft Store, so a regional store or a later promotion could differ.
Original 2012 game versus the Remastered edition
Readers often search for the original game and get results for the remastered version. The two are separate products, and the free-offer claim does not carry over between them.

What Ubisoft’s 2022 notice covered
Ubisoft News published “Decommissioning Some Online Services: An Update” on August 31, 2022. It told owners of certain older games on PC to activate their DLC before October 1, 2022 in order to keep playing them. The line most often quoted reads: “If you own these games on PC, activate your DLC before the decommissioning on October 1 to continue playing it.” For Assassin’s Creed III, the notice applied to the single-player DLC of the 2012 PC release; Ubisoft said the same DLC on consoles was unaffected.
That deadline has passed, and the notice concerns DLC activation for a service shutdown. It does not describe a free base-game offer.

How to check whether a free copy is available to you
- Open the Ubisoft Store in your browser and confirm that the country or store region shown matches where you live.
- Go to the promotions page and search for Assassin’s Creed III. Note whether the listing is the original 2012 game or the Remastered edition, and the price shown.
- Check Ubisoft’s free-offer page for any Assassin’s Creed III listing. If the title is absent, no current free offer is shown for your region.
- Before buying or redeeming, confirm the edition and platform on the product page. Store labels can change, so use the names on the live page rather than older article titles.
Ubisoft’s other giveaways are a different game
Ubisoft’s 2026 anniversary promotion offered For Honor Standard Edition as a free PC giveaway, with the window ending September 28. A Ubisoft Store sale runs through October 13. The giveaway concerned For Honor and nothing else. It shows that Ubisoft runs time-limited promotions, not that Assassin’s Creed III is among them.
For readers who want the game, the Remastered edition is the current purchase option on Ubisoft’s US store. Anyone holding a copy of the 2012 original should check the platform-specific DLC and service notices on Ubisoft’s site before assuming their version still works as it did.
