No. The Ubisoft promotion announced on September 17, 2026, gives away For Honor Standard Edition for PC through September 28; it does not make Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag free to own. Ubisoft listed the separate remake, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, as discounted instead.
What Ubisoft’s current promotion includes
Ubisoft’s September 17, 2026 announcement names For Honor Standard Edition as the free PC giveaway, available through September 28, 2026. It describes Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced as part of the sale, not as a free game. The announced Ubisoft Store sale was scheduled through October 13, 2026, with 10% off Resynced Standard Edition and 15% off its Deluxe Edition. Those are dated sale terms and may vary by market.

The original game and Resynced are different products
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is Ubisoft’s 2013 pirate action-adventure. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a separate remake. The discount announced for Resynced is not a giveaway of the original game. Ubisoft’s official page for the original Black Flag identifies it as a 2013 release and provides a Buy Now route.
Why the free-to-own claim may sound familiar
Ubisoft did offer temporary access to Black Flag during a free weekend from August 10 to 14, 2023. Its announcement notes that access depended on platform. A free weekend lets players try a game for a limited time; it does not establish permanent ownership.

Xbox Wire’s October 1–4, 2026 Free Play Days announcement listed Far Cry 6, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones and The Crew Motorfest. It did not list Black Flag. That event was timed free play, not an ownership offer.
