Plan to play with friends using the same platform family; owning the game on different platforms does not let you join one another’s co-op session.
Cross-platform play and co-op are different
Unity has co-op missions, but that does not mean players on different platforms can team up. Ubisoft Support’s answer in the Steam community support forum says cross-platform play is not supported. Ubisoft’s co-op instructions use friends on your platform’s friend list to invite players, so the practical choice is to use the same platform family.

The cross-play answer is attributed to Ubisoft Support rather than a dedicated, current Ubisoft policy page. Ubisoft’s setup guidance supports the same-platform advice, but does not independently state a categorical cross-play policy.
Which platforms can play Unity?
Ubisoft lists the original game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC through the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. PS5 and Xbox Series X|S can play the console versions; the 2026 update improves performance on those newer consoles, but it does not add cross-play.

These platform details come from Ubisoft’s platform announcement, Ubisoft Help’s co-op instructions, and the PlayStation and Xbox store listings. Store descriptions advertise capability; they do not guarantee that every online service or matchmaking route is working at all times.
How many players can join co-op?
PlayStation’s current store listing describes online play for up to four players. Xbox’s listing specifies two to four online co-op players. These are platform store specifications accessed October 8, 2026, not a guarantee of server availability.

How to start an online co-op session
- Reach Sequence 3. Ubisoft Help says co-op unlocks after Sequence 3.
- Confirm the prerequisites. You need an internet connection and must be friends with the other player on your platform’s friend list. Console play may also require the relevant platform’s online multiplayer subscription.
- Open the pause menu and select “Play Together.”
- Invite a friend or use matchmaking. Choose “Invite Players” and select a friend, or choose “Play Co-Op Now” to find a session through matchmaking.
What the 2026 console update changes
Ubisoft announced on March 5, 2026 that the update brings 60 FPS to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and 4K resolution to PS5 and Xbox Series X. Those are performance and resolution improvements—not cross-play features. The announcement’s description of teaming up with friends refers to co-op, not the ability to play across platform families.
