It is not established whether the Battlefield 2 client uses multiple CPU cores. The available sources offer historical advice for configuring dedicated server instances and an anecdotal dual-core troubleshooting suggestion—not a client-engine specification or a controlled performance test.
Does Battlefield 2 use multiple CPU cores?
The available evidence does not verify whether the retail client runs work concurrently across cores, or how it scales with additional cores. It also does not establish whether behavior differs by game patch or on modern Windows versions and processors.

The distinction matters: guidance about running a dedicated server is not evidence about how the game client uses a CPU while playing.
What the historical CPU advice actually covers
GameFront’s archive of Battlefield 2 patch material describes a server setup for an optimal 64-player game: run one server instance per physical CPU, with Hyper-Threading disabled. It also mentions a 3.66 GHz Xeon as part of that historical server configuration. These are patch-era server specifications, not measurements of client performance or proof that the client is single-threaded. Read the archived Battlefield 2 v1.40 patch material at GameFront.

Should you set BF2.exe to one processor?
A BF2S community post suggests restricting BF2.exe to one processor on a dual-core system. The post is an anecdotal troubleshooting suggestion; the available text establishes no author methodology, reproducible result, or official endorsement. It does not show that the client cannot use multiple cores. See the BF2S “General BF2 Issues (list of fix)” thread.
There is no controlled comparison here between setting one-processor affinity and letting Windows schedule the process. The sources therefore do not establish that either choice improves performance. Treat the affinity change as an experiment for a specific problem, not as a general optimization: note the original setting, change affinity only for the game process, and restore it if there is no clear improvement or the behavior worsens.
