Yes. Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale is included in Battlefield REDSEC, EA’s free-to-play experience, and you do not need to buy Battlefield 6 to play it. You will need an EA account and a persistent internet connection; depending on your platform, a platform account and separately sold subscription may also be required.
What is free in Battlefield REDSEC?
EA launched Battlefield REDSEC on October 28, 2025, as a free-to-play Battlefield experience. Its launch package included Battle Royale, Gauntlet, and Portal experiences—not just Battle Royale. EA describes REDSEC as playable without owning the Battlefield 6 base game. EA’s launch announcement and the REDSEC community update explain the offering.

Battle Royale matches support 100 players: 25 squads of four or 50 duos, according to EA’s community update. That describes the mode’s match formats; it does not change the free-to-play access terms.

What do you need to play?
- An EA account and persistent internet connection are required.
- A platform account and a separately sold platform subscription may be required, depending on the platform. EA’s statement does not establish a universal subscription requirement or identify one subscription that applies to everyone.
- Optional in-game purchases are available; they are not the same as buying Battlefield 6 to unlock REDSEC.
EA lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam, the EA app, and the Epic Games Store for the launch offering. Requirements can vary by platform, region, and account type, so check the relevant platform storefront before installing. EA’s REDSEC update includes its account, connection, and platform caveats.

Is REDSEC still available?
EA was still discussing Battlefield 6 and REDSEC together in a newsroom release dated July 17, 2026, which announced REDSEC content. That confirms the experience was part of EA’s active offering on that date, but it is not a guarantee of future availability. Read EA’s July 17, 2026 announcement for that update.
