Yes. Call of Duty: Warzone is free to play on PS5; you do not need to buy an annual Call of Duty game to access Warzone. Activision lists PlayStation as a platform and describes Warzone as “free to play.”
What is free on PS5?
The Warzone game itself is free to play. Activision’s official Warzone page lists PlayStation among its platforms, and the Call of Duty games catalog labels Warzone “Free to Play.”
You do not have to purchase a separate annual Call of Duty release to play Warzone. Activision’s August 2024 installation roadmap described Warzone as available to download separately from that year’s paid title; that is historical guidance, not a guarantee of the current PS5 installation flow.
Are there optional purchases?
Yes. Activision promotes premium Battle Pass and BlackCell offerings on the Warzone page. Those are optional paid content; they do not change the game’s free-to-play status.

What to know before downloading
Call of Duty’s installation setup has changed over time. In October 2024, Activision said a PS5 installation of Warzone could include some Black Ops 6 Multiplayer and Zombies content, even for players who had not bought Black Ops 6, and that those components could then be uninstalled. That account describes the Black Ops 6 launch period, not a current download-size estimate or step-by-step PS5 guide. See Activision’s dated October 2024 installation explanation.
The official pages cited here establish that Warzone is free to play and available on PlayStation, but they do not establish whether PlayStation Plus is required for online play. They also do not provide a current PS5 download size or verified installation steps, so check the live PlayStation Store listing for those details.
