Not conclusively. As of October 8, 2026, the available official information does not establish that the original Warzone 2.0 DMZ beta’s servers have shut down or name a final support date. Activision and Infinity Ward have, however, announced a new DMZ mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, scheduled for October 23, 2026. That is a new installment—not confirmation that the original beta is returning unchanged.
What “officially dead” means for the original DMZ
The original DMZ was introduced with Warzone 2.0 Season 01 on November 22, 2022, as a free-to-play Warzone experience. Activision described it as an open-world mode in which players chose their own stakes; buying Modern Warfare II was not established as a requirement to play it. Activision’s DMZ overview explains its launch context.
It was an extraction mode: deploy, pursue objectives, collect loot, survive, and exfiltrate with the gains from a run. The official overview hosted by Blizzard describes it as a single-life mode, where dying could cost nonpermanent backpack items, and exfiltration was the way to escape with what you had collected. There is evidence that the original mode received official updates after launch. Activision’s August 2, 2023 Season 05 patch notes include DMZ-specific fixes and gameplay changes. Those notes establish maintenance at that point, but do not state when support ended or whether the original servers are accessible today.

So “officially dead” is too definite if it means Activision confirmed a shutdown. Current server availability and an official end-of-support date are not established by the cited information. The absence of a later update in these sources is not proof that servers have closed.
Is DMZ coming back in Modern Warfare 4?
Yes, a new DMZ mode has been announced for Modern Warfare 4. Xbox Wire reported on June 7, 2026, that Activision and Infinity Ward revealed the mode, describing it as a transformation of the beta shaped by player feedback, with structured missions and emergent play. This is a future release as of October 8, 2026. The announcement does not establish that the original Warzone 2.0 beta is being restored, that its progress will carry over, or that every original mechanic will return. The new mode should be treated as a separate release in a new game unless official details say otherwise.

Windows Central reported that the new mode was expected to be a dedicated third mode rather than a free part of Warzone, but that is secondary reporting, not a final official pricing or packaging policy.
