Code Violet has a very low critic score, but the available evidence does not establish that it is definitively a bottom-five PS5 game or the platform’s single worst exclusive. Metacritic’s PS5 critic page currently lists a 29 Metascore from 16 reviews, classified as “Generally Unfavorable.” The PlayStation Store separately shows 2.8 out of 5 from about 4.9K user ratings. Those are different measures, and neither proves an all-time ranking.
What scores does Code Violet have?
On Metacritic’s critic-review page, Code Violet has a 29 Metascore from 16 displayed critic reviews and a “Generally Unfavorable” classification. The score and review count are a current-page snapshot retrieved in 2026; Metacritic aggregates can change as reviews are added or its data is updated.
The US PlayStation Store listing shows 2.8 out of 5 from about 4.9K ratings. That is a user rating, not a critic aggregate. The two numbers come from different groups and rating systems, so they should not be combined or compared as if they measured the same thing.
Why did some reports give it a different score?
A January 2026 report from MeriStation / AS recorded a Metacritic score of 27/100 from 14 reviews. That was a dated snapshot, not the current page total. A difference between 27 and 29 does not by itself indicate a contradiction: critic aggregates can move as the review set changes.

Does that make Code Violet a bottom-five PS5 game?
Not on the evidence available here. A very low Metascore supports calling Code Violet poorly reviewed, but a bottom-five claim requires a defined comparison: the same platform, the same critic-score source, a common capture date, a minimum number of reviews, and clear rules for which releases count. A ranking also needs to distinguish PS5 console exclusivity from first-party PlayStation publishing.
Some coverage has described the game as the lowest-rated PS5 exclusive, including reports from 17173.com and an editorial list by WatchMojo. Those reports show that the claim has circulated; they do not provide an exhaustive, consistently scoped all-time ranking that verifies it. The strongest careful conclusion is that Code Violet is among the PS5’s very poorly reviewed releases, not that its exact bottom-five position or worst-exclusive status has been established.

What do critics say about the game?
Individual reviews add context but do not turn a low aggregate into a single universal explanation. Metacritic reproduces a COGconnected review dated January 10, 2026, which scored the game 55. The outlet said that the adventure had some strong moments and good interior environments, but fell short of its inspirations; it also described bugs that could lead to clumsy moments and break immersion. That is COGconnected’s assessment, not an independently verified finding about every player’s experience.

How to judge the ranking for yourself
- Use critic scores against critic scores, and store-user ratings against store-user ratings.
- Compare games on the same platform and use scores captured on the same date.
- Check review counts and decide whether games with very few critic reviews should qualify.
- Define “exclusive” before ranking: a PS5 console exclusive is not necessarily a game published by PlayStation Studios.
- Treat lists without explicit inclusion rules as editorial selections, not definitive all-time standings.
