When does Crimson Desert’s DLC arrive?
Pearl Abyss now lists Charting the Unknown for October 29, 2026 at 22:00 UTC. That is October 29 at 15:00 PT / 18:00 ET in North America, and October 30 at 07:00 KST/JST in Asia. The publisher announced the two-week postponement on September 30, saying it needed more development time for a “more polished and stable gameplay experience.” This update supersedes the earlier October 15/16 dates that appeared in announcements and store listings. What does the expansion add?
Pearl Abyss describes the DLC as a sea-focused addition featuring ship-based exploration, new islands, underwater treasures and ruins, new enemies and challenges, expanded housing, facility management, and new stories for Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane. Those are the publisher’s advertised features; the expansion had not launched as of October 4, 2026, so its quality and how well the features work in play were not yet independently established. Who should buy the base game now?
Buy now if you want an open-world action-adventure built around exploration, combat, traversal, and character progression, and you’re comfortable with the base game being the reason for your purchase—not a promise that the DLC will improve it. The expansion is additional content, not the base game’s launch; Crimson Desert has been available since March 19, 2026. Pearl Abyss lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, Epic Games Store, and ROG Xbox Ally among its launch platforms. Pearl Abyss’ launch announcement.

PC Gamer’s Mollie Taylor rated the game 80 in a review published March 18, 2026. Taylor praised its abundance of discoveries and exploration, while describing its scale as potentially exhilarating or frustrating and pointing to confusing systems and mediocre questing. Treat that as one critic’s assessment, not a consensus score or a review of the game’s later updates. PC Gamer’s review.
Who should wait?
Wait if the DLC’s ships, islands, underwater locations, housing, facility management, or added character stories are what make Crimson Desert sound appealing. You can decide after its release whether those additions deliver what you want, rather than buying the base game now on the assumption that they will.

Waiting is also the sensible choice if you prefer to see how the postponed expansion performs after launch. The delay is not proof of a problem with the DLC, but Pearl Abyss has explicitly said it needs more time to deliver a polished and stable experience.

The base game and DLC have separate listings. The expansion is a digital download, and Pearl Abyss says it will not be available on the Mac App Store at launch; the company may announce Mac availability later. If you play on Mac, verify the specific storefront and expansion availability before purchasing the base game with the expectation of playing the DLC. Official expansion details.

Pearl Abyss documented physical Standard, Deluxe, and Collector’s editions for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Standard includes the full game; Deluxe and Collector’s editions add cosmetic or collector items. The company’s 2025 announcement gave US launch prices of $69.99, $89.99, and $279.99 respectively. These are historical launch prices, not current quotes or prices that apply everywhere. Check your local store for today’s price, edition contents, discounts, and DLC listing before paying. If buying a physical PS5 copy, confirm that the listing is for the base game and check its platform, edition, seller, and stock. A base-game listing should not be assumed to include the expansion.
