Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a weaker fit if you want clear quest directions, convenient travel, or a story that consistently takes priority over combat. On PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, the game is the same basic adventure; platform choice comes down to your hardware and ecosystem, with the important caveat that launch-era performance reviews do not describe the game after its later updates.
What Dragon’s Dogma 2 does well—and what may frustrate you
Capcom’s action RPG launched on March 22, 2024, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. You travel with a party that includes AI-controlled Pawns, exploring a large fantasy world and fighting enemies through active, vocation-based combat. Its appeal comes less from being led through a tightly signposted campaign than from making decisions about your party, equipment, routes, and approach to encounters. Capcom’s game overview describes the game and its Pawn system.
It suits players who enjoy figuring things out
Windows Central’s March 2024 review praised combat and open-world adventuring, especially the way party composition and Pawn companions shape the experience. The game rewards experimentation and wandering rather than constantly pointing you toward the next objective. If you like discovering solutions through play, that can be a strength.
It can be a poor fit for players who want direction
The same review warned that some quests are opaque enough to invite experimentation—or outside guidance—and that the story often takes a back seat to combat. If you prefer clear quest markers, frictionless fast travel, or a strongly delivered narrative, you may find the adventure more frustrating than immersive. In that case, waiting for a sale or skipping it is a reasonable choice. Read Windows Central’s launch-era review.

Which platform should you choose?
There is no reliable current, like-for-like performance comparison here that establishes one platform as the overall winner. The 2024 review tested multiple Windows PCs and Xbox Series X, with some observations on Series S; those results are useful context for the launch, not a ranking of the game after its 2026 updates. Choose first by the hardware and ecosystem you already use, then check recent platform-specific results if performance is your deciding factor.
| Platform | What to consider | Performance evidence |
|---|---|---|
| PC | Settings and hardware choices let you adjust image and performance trade-offs. The review’s PC results were specific to the machines and settings it tested, and are not a current PC-wide benchmark. | Launch-era Windows testing is available; a current same-build comparison with consoles is not established. |
| PS5 | A straightforward option if you prefer the PlayStation ecosystem and console play. | Capcom later described Performance Mode tuning intended to reach 60 FPS. That is a target/tuning statement, not proof of a locked 60 FPS in every scene. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Choose for your Xbox library and ecosystem. Series X and Series S are different hardware, so do not assume their results are identical. | Capcom’s later performance statements cover console Performance Mode; the available evidence does not quantify current Series S behavior in a controlled comparison. |
What the 2026 performance updates do—and don’t—tell you
Launch reviews raised performance concerns, including roughly 30-FPS-era console observations. Those findings describe the game around its March 2024 release and should not be treated as the current state. In July 2026, TechRadar reported that producer Naoto Oyama said an August update would allow Performance Mode to reach 60 FPS on console. Oyama described the work as finding “as many small tweaks as we can make” to build up a performance improvement. Capcom’s Steam update language also says Performance Mode was tuned to run at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X. TechRadar’s report on Oyama’s comments and Capcom’s Steam announcements support those statements.

“Reach 60 FPS” or “tuned to run at 60 FPS” is not the same as an independently verified, stable 60 FPS across every area, combat encounter, and console model. The available evidence does not provide current scene-by-scene testing across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. If smoothness is central to your decision, look for recent tests on your exact platform and mode rather than relying on either launch-era figures or a vendor’s target alone.
Should you buy now or wait for Dark Arisen?

Capcom said Dragon’s Dogma 2 sales topped 2.5 million units in its April 2, 2024 announcement. In its June 2026 announcement, Capcom reported more than 14 million cumulative units for the Dragon’s Dogma series as of March 31, 2026. The latter is a franchise-wide total, not sales of Dragon’s Dogma 2. Capcom’s April 2024 sales announcement and its June 2026 announcement report the separate figures.
