No—Dying Light (the original game) does not support co-op between PC and PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo Switch. The exception is PC: Techland says players on Steam, GOG and Epic Games can join one another. That PC exception does not let PC players join console friends.
Which platforms can play together?
Techland Support says general cross-platform gameplay is unavailable, while naming cross-play between PC storefronts as an exception. Its [support answer, modified March 2, 2022] says, “Unfortunately, general cross-platform gameplay or save transfer is not possible for DYING LIGHT,” then clarifies that Steam, GOG and Epic Games PC players can join one another.

Cross-play, cross-generation play and availability are different
Cross-play means players on different platforms can play together. Techland lists the original Dying Light for Windows, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, backward-compatible PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro, Xbox One, backward-compatible Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Being available on those systems does not mean their players share co-op sessions.
Cross-generation play is a separate question: it concerns two generations within one console family, such as PS4 and PS5. Techland’s FAQ lists backward compatibility for newer consoles but does not confirm cross-generation co-op in the original game. Do not infer it from the game running on newer hardware.

This answer is about the original Dying Light, not Dying Light 2: Stay Human or Dying Light: The Beast. Techland’s FAQ discusses cross-generation play for Dying Light 2 separately; that policy does not establish the original game’s capabilities.
Can you transfer a save between platforms?
No. Techland Support explicitly says save transfer is not possible as part of its statement about general cross-platform functionality. The source does not describe a supported way to move progress between PC and console or between console families.

How to unlock and start co-op
Reach the co-op unlock point
Complete the prologue and reach the “First Assignment” quest step “Sleep through the night.” Techland’s co-op and multiplayer instructions, modified October 6, 2021, identify this as the point after which you can use the online options.
Choose matchmaking or join a friend
- Open Options → Online → Game Type and set the game type to Public if you want other players to be able to join.
- Choose Matchmaking to find or quickly join a game.
- To join someone you know, select the friend’s name in the in-game list and choose Join. This only works when your platforms are within the supported PC-to-PC exception.
Techland’s co-op instructions mention an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold membership for console play. Subscription names and platform requirements can change, so check the current online-play requirements for your console and region.

What to check before buying for co-op
- Confirm the exact platform your friend will use. A PC copy cannot join a PlayStation, Xbox or Switch copy.
- For PC, Techland explicitly supports joining across Steam, GOG and Epic Games storefronts; its current FAQ also names Windows, Mac and Linux, without detailing every pairing.
- Do not assume PS4/PS5 or Xbox One/Series X|S cross-generation co-op from backward compatibility alone.
- A physical edition does not add cross-play. Techland lists Switch among the platforms with digital and physical editions; check current stock and edition details before purchasing.
