What did Miyazaki say about Elden Ring 2?
In an interview with Famitsu associated with the PlayStation Partner Awards 2024 Japan Asia, FromSoftware president and ELDEN RING director Hidetaka Miyazaki said the studio was not considering a development like ELDEN RING 2 “at this time.” He immediately qualified that answer: it did not mean FromSoftware was denying the possibility of developing the ELDEN RING IP in some form in the future.

PC Gamer’s contemporaneous English-language report rendered the key point as: “We don’t have any particular plans to develop Elden Ring 2,” while also quoting Miyazaki as saying the studio was not denying future development of the IP “in some form.” Read together, those statements are neither an announcement of a sequel nor a declaration that the series is over.
Does that mean Elden Ring is over?
No. Miyazaki’s answer drew a distinction between a sequel-like project and any future use of the franchise. A direct follow-up was not under consideration when he spoke; other forms of development were left open. He did not announce what those might be, when they might happen, or whether one was already in development.

What about FromSoftware’s other projects?
Miyazaki said FromSoftware had several projects underway in different forms. He noted that some would be directed by him and others by different directors at the studio, but did not identify those projects as ELDEN RING 2. He also declined to specify the genre of the studio’s next game. The interview therefore offers no basis to treat those unnamed projects as evidence of a sequel.

The date matters: Miyazaki made these remarks on December 3, 2024. They establish what he said about the studio’s considerations then, not what FromSoftware is planning in October 2026. The studio’s current catalogue lists ELDEN RING among its titles, but a catalogue listing does not establish whether a sequel is now being considered or developed.

For context, Bandai Namco and FromSoftware described ELDEN RING as a co-developed action RPG released on February 25, 2022. Their February 22, 2023 announcement reported more than 20 million units worldwide, combining package distribution and downloadable-version sales. That is the companies’ figure from 2023, not a current sales total. The release also says FromSoftware published the game in Japan, while Bandai Namco Entertainment published it in other regions.
