GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City at its center—not in a literal copy of Miami. The game draws on real South Florida landmarks and landscapes, from South Beach and the Everglades to the Florida Keys, while giving its places fictional names and its own geography.
What are Leonida and Vice City?
Rockstar describes GTA 6 as a return to modern-day Vice City, in the fictional state of Leonida. Its official setting page also names the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. These are places within the game world; Rockstar does not present them as one-to-one replacements for real Florida locations. Rockstar’s official GTA VI page and its Only in Leonida character and location guide use the fictional names.
The setting is tied to the leads’ stories, too. Jason Duval, a former Army servicemember, has been working in the Keys for local drug runners. Lucia Caminos has been released from Leonida Penitentiary after fighting for her family. Rockstar’s synopsis says an easy score goes wrong, drawing the pair into a criminal conspiracy across Leonida and leaving them to rely on each other.
Which real South Florida places appear to inspire the game?
Trailer analysis by Axios Miami, including comments from Miami Design Preservation League executive director Daniel Ciraldo, points to visual echoes of South Florida rather than an official Rockstar map key:

Ciraldo told Axios, “I must say the depictions are pretty exciting, it looks like they took the best of South Florida from the Everglades to South Beach and everything in between.” He also said, “The architecture looks very realistic, though some buildings are out of order or on the wrong block!” Those are Ciraldo’s impressions of the trailer, not Rockstar’s confirmation that specific game locations correspond directly to real ones.
What has Rockstar said about Leonida’s regions and weather?
A 2026 TechRadar report on a Game Informer cover story describes six primary regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. The report also says Rockstar staff described the world as twice the size of GTA V’s, but that is a reported comparison—not an independently checked map measurement.

TechRadar reports Rockstar staff figures of 170 animal species, more than 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals, as well as over 600,000 NPC animations. These are figures attributed to Rockstar staff or the cover story through TechRadar, not measurements independently verified here. TechRadar’s report also describes localized, persistent weather and quotes Rockstar staff discussing dynamic clouds and Florida’s seasonal weather. Rockstar’s store currently lists November 19, 2026 as the release date and displays a preorder price of $79.99. Rockstar Support says a Standard Edition owner can purchase the Ultimate Edition Upgrade digitally through PlayStation or Microsoft after redeeming the Standard code. In many markets, the code’s region must match the platform account’s region; Rockstar recommends purchasing from a retailer in the country associated with the account. What comes with a GTA 6 preorder?
Rockstar and Take-Two preorder materials describe the Vintage Vice City Pack, including a ’55 Vapid Stanier Sedan and Garage, outfits and hairstyles, and an exclusive weapon pattern. The terms vary by purchase route. Rockstar Support says digital preorders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the pack and a free month of GTA+; physical preorders have their own stated inclusion. Are there official GTA 6 collectibles?
Rockstar is promoting The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection, a limited-edition collectible set inspired by the in-game TV show Macca the Gator. It is a separate collectible product, not a game edition, and the Rockstar announcement page is the place to check current details and availability.
