Arrowhead’s October 2026 patch notes list several crash fixes for Helldivers 2, including a narrowly defined PS5/Xbox crash-on-boot bug. They do not show how many PS5 players are affected or establish that crashes are widespread. If the game is crashing for you, start with updates and the least disruptive console troubleshooting steps; the right next step depends on whether other games crash too.
What the latest Helldivers 2 patch notes say
Arrowhead Game Studios’ Devoid of Liberty: 7.1.0 notes, dated October 7, 2026, list several crash-related conditions: a crash or network disconnect on levels with bunker caches, a rare crash when hotjoining Oil Rig missions, a crash associated with cycling weapon functions on the TED-63 Dynamite while using a mounted weapon, and a potential fix for a crash when one object was destroyed as it attached to another. The notes do not say that every item applies to PS5, nor that all console crashes are fixed.
The previous update, Devoid of Liberty: 7.0.0, dated October 5, 2026, specifically says it fixed a PS5/Xbox crash-on-boot that could occur after opening settings with no prior saves, restoring settings to default, and restarting. That is a fix for a particular sequence, not a general stability guarantee.
How to troubleshoot a PS5 crash
Work from reversible steps to more disruptive ones. Arrowhead’s PS5 technical-issues guide, dated August 31, 2026, and PlayStation Support recommend these checks:

- Update the game. From the PS5 home screen, highlight Helldivers 2, press the Options button, and choose Check for Update. Install any available update, then test again.
- Update PS5 system software. Check for and install the latest system software through the console’s settings before testing the game again.
- Restart the console. If the game will not start or the crash followed Rest Mode, fully shut down the PS5 and restart it rather than relying on Rest Mode.
- Clear the cache or rebuild the database in Safe Mode. Follow the PS5 Safe Mode process and choose the cache-clearing or database-rebuild option. These are troubleshooting steps, not guarantees that a game-specific bug will be resolved.
- Reinstall only if needed. If the game’s data may be corrupted or the earlier steps fail, delete and reinstall it. For a digital game, PlayStation also recommends reinstalling when necessary. If it is installed on USB extended storage and will not start, move the game data to the console’s internal storage.
Check whether the problem is the game or the console
Try another game and online service. If the crashes are limited to Helldivers 2, report the problem to Arrowhead. If multiple games or services fail, the issue may be broader than this game, so use PlayStation’s console troubleshooting and support guidance.
Before contacting support, record the game version, PS5 system software version, any error code, what you were doing when the crash happened, and the steps that reproduce it. PlayStation asks for a detailed description and, if available, a screenshot or video. Note whether the crash happens on launch, while matchmaking, during a particular mission or action, or after Rest Mode; that detail can help distinguish different failure conditions.

Hardware and display checks are possibilities, not proven fixes
Arrowhead’s PS5 guide also suggests checking that the console has adequate ventilation and is free of dust, disconnecting external devices, and reviewing HDR or 4K settings. These are checks to try, not established causes of Helldivers 2 crashes or guaranteed fixes. The guide mentions a cooling stand, but does not establish that one treats this game’s crashes or that you need to buy one.

The October 5 and October 7 patch notes confirm that Arrowhead has addressed multiple crash conditions. They do not quantify the number of affected PS5 players or the frequency of crashes. A June 2026 Reddit post asked, “game crashes since last update – anyone else?” That is an individual anecdote, not evidence of the current scale of the problem.
