Did Netflix acquire Warner Bros. and Hogwarts Legacy 2?
That is not established. Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery announced a proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. on December 5, 2025. The announcement covered Warner Bros.’ film and television studios, HBO Max, and HBO, and described a transaction that would close only after the planned separation of Discovery Global and satisfaction of regulatory, shareholder, and other customary conditions. An announced agreement is not proof that a transfer closed. Netflix and WBD’s December 5, 2025 announcement put the proposed deal at approximately $82.7 billion in enterprise value and $72.0 billion in equity value; those are announced transaction values, not a completed sale price.
On February 26, 2026, Netflix said it would not raise its offer after WBD’s board determined that Paramount Skydance’s latest proposal was superior under the existing agreement. That announcement does not, by itself, establish that Paramount Skydance’s proposal closed either. Netflix’s February 26, 2026 statement records Netflix’s decision, not the ultimate ownership outcome.
The sources reviewed do not establish who owned Warner Bros. on October 7, 2026. It would therefore be inaccurate to state that Netflix owns Warner Bros. or Hogwarts Legacy 2 based on the December announcement alone.

What the ownership announcements do—and do not—say about the game
The company announcements concern a proposed corporate transaction and Netflix’s later decision not to improve its offer. They do not mention Hogwarts Legacy 2 or confirm a game-specific change in ownership, development, format, or creative direction. The announced deal’s named assets are not evidence of a decision about this particular sequel.
Reporting published in December 2025 described fan concern that the sequel might adopt live-service elements, but concern is not confirmation of a format change. A February 2026 article said the sequel had not been officially announced at that time and described a 2027–2028 release window as an estimate based on indirect signals—not an official release date. Neither report establishes that ownership news caused a change in the game’s plans. December 2025 coverage of live-service concerns and February 2026 coverage of the sequel and estimated window should be read with those limits in mind.
