That $180 Collector’s Edition price is not verified as a current offer. As of October 8, 2026, PlayStation’s U.S. listings showed the standard PS4/PS5 game at $49.99 and the Complete Edition at $29.99 on a sale scheduled to end at 06:59 UTC that day. The official pages did not show a live Collector’s Edition price, so there is no confirmed current price comparison. PlayStation’s game page and the Complete Edition listing are the useful reference points, but the sale has expired and prices may have changed.
Is the $180 Collector’s Edition currently cheaper?
There is not enough current pricing information to say. The Collector’s Edition price and availability were not displayed on PlayStation’s U.S. product page when checked on October 8, 2026. That means the headline’s $180 price cannot be treated as a verified live offer, nor can it be compared fairly with today’s separate purchase prices without checking a current retailer listing.
Past discounts do not establish what it costs now. GameSpot reported a Collector’s Edition offer at $80 in May 2025; in November 2025, it reported a $30 offer and said the edition had sold out. Those were historical deals, not evidence of present stock or pricing. GameSpot’s May 2025 report and its November 2025 report document those earlier offers.
What the separate digital options cost in the U.S.
PlayStation’s U.S. listings accessed on October 8, 2026 showed these prices. The Complete Edition discount was scheduled to end at 06:59 UTC that day, so its sale price is historical after that time and should not be assumed to remain available.

What the Collector’s Edition actually includes
Sony’s September 2021 announcement describes a digital game code supplied by voucher, rather than a physical game disc, alongside physical collectibles and digital extras. The package includes a SteelBook display case, a custom sculpted Tremortusk and Aloy statue that requires some assembly, and a mini art book. Its digital content includes two outfits, two weapons, a resource pack, an Apex Clawstrider Machine Strike piece, Photo Mode extras, a digital soundtrack, and The Sunhawk, the first Horizon Zero Dawn graphic novel. The code entitles the owner to both PS4 and PS5 versions. Sony’s Collector’s Edition announcement
Sony’s announcement also quoted Jim Ryan, then President & CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment: “Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.” For a disc-based PS4 purchase, using that upgrade requires a PS5 with a disc drive; a PS4 disc cannot be used with the disc-free PS5 Digital Edition.

How to make a fair price comparison
Compare options at the same time and for the same edition of the game. The Collector’s Edition’s dual-console digital entitlement and collectibles make it different from a standard game purchase, while the Complete Edition adds Burning Shores. A base-game price alone is not an equivalent comparison if the alternative you want includes the expansion.
- Match the game content: Compare against the base game if that is all you want; include the cost of Burning Shores only if you would otherwise buy the expansion. The Complete Edition includes it.
- Check platform entitlement: Confirm whether each option gives you PS4, PS5, or both, and whether your console can use the purchase. Disc-based PS4 upgrade paths require a disc-drive PS5.
- Distinguish code from disc: The Collector’s Edition game is a digital code. Its SteelBook is a display case, not a game disc.
- Value the physical items separately for yourself: The statue, SteelBook, and art book are the main physical collectibles described by Sony. Whether those justify any premium depends on your interest in them.
- Verify a live listing: Check current price, stock, seller, condition, and platform before using a Collector’s Edition listing in the calculation; historical deal reports do not confirm any of those details today.
Verdict
The available evidence does not establish that a current $180 Collector’s Edition is cheaper than buying the game separately. Its current price and stock were unverified, while the digital alternatives cited above were U.S. prices recorded on October 8, 2026; notably, the Complete Edition’s displayed sale ended that day. Treat the Collector’s Edition as a digital game code bundled with collectibles, and compare only against a current, equivalent game edition and platform.
