Is Hot Wheels Infinite Rush Worth Buying on Nintendo Switch 2?

By VGSources Team 12 min read

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Conditional buy. HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush is a substantial arcade racer for collectors and track-builders, but the Nintendo Switch 2 version targets 1080p at 30 fps and repeatedly reported long loading screens are its defining drawback. Reviews disagree about the severity of stutters, input lag and crashes. Buy if the toy-car fantasy, vehicle collection, exploration and local multiplayer matter more to you than rapid transitions and perfectly consistent performance; wait for patches or choose another platform if smoothness is your priority.

The important distinction is that this is a platform-specific recommendation, not a claim that every Switch 2 copy behaves identically. Reviews tested different builds and play sessions, and later patches could change the experience. Nintendo’s current listing confirms the digital release date, file size, player counts and edition contents, while Milestone’s stated technical target sets a realistic ceiling for expectations.

What you get on Switch 2

Nintendo lists the Switch 2 release as a digital game launched on September 10, 2026, with a 12.7 GB download. The campaign spans four themed islands, each containing events, challenges, free exploration and a Rush Master boss. Progression builds toward a collection of more than 150 vehicles. The publisher describes the core loop as discovering and collecting vehicles through events, activities and challenges.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That structure makes Infinite Rush broader than a simple menu-based arcade racer. You move through themed spaces, choose activities, return to previously visited areas and build a garage over time. The islands are the setting for both conventional competition and optional activities, so the game’s appeal depends partly on whether you enjoy roaming between objectives as much as winning races.

Cars are divided into four classes: Versatiles, Titans, Drifters and Speeders. You can customize vehicles and create routes with the Track Builder, which lets you use the surrounding environment when designing tracks. Modes include single-player, local split-screen and online play. Nintendo’s listing supports one to four players on one system and two to twelve online; its listing also says online play is limited to Switch 2 users.

Events and open-world activities

Platform-tested coverage describes conventional races alongside time attacks, stunt tasks and destruction challenges. The creator is considered accessible, making experimentation less intimidating than in a highly technical circuit editor. The trade-off is pacing: one review found early progression can leave large stretches of the world feeling empty between events, while another judged the open-world campaign repetitive. Those are reviewer impressions, not guarantees that every player will have the same reaction.

For a player who likes variety, the mixture matters. A race asks you to compete, a time attack emphasizes repeatable improvement, stunts reward experimenting with the car and environment, and destruction challenges change the immediate objective. However, the game still asks you to revisit its islands and activities, so the variety does not necessarily eliminate repetition. If your ideal racer is a tightly sequenced series of new tracks with no downtime, the open-world format may feel less efficient.

Handling and progression

The driving is deliberately arcade-focused, with collectible vehicles and upgrades providing the long-term hook. A critical review felt the handling model does not always fit the open-world format, whereas other coverage praised the racing itself. Expect a game built around collecting, trying different vehicle classes and repeatedly revisiting activities rather than a tightly curated one-time campaign.

The four class labels are useful when deciding whether the collection loop will hold your attention. You are not merely filling a list with visually different toys; the class system gives you a reason to test different vehicles and see which approach suits a particular activity. The available information does not establish a detailed statistical progression system for every car, so it is safer to view the garage as a collecting and experimentation goal than to assume a specific upgrade meta.

Switch 2 performance: the deciding issue

A Milestone representative told GamingBolt that the Switch 2 target is 1080p at 30 fps. That is a target specification, not an independent guarantee that every scene will hold that rate. Do not buy this version expecting a 60 fps presentation.

The target is understandable in context: the game renders a large environment, vehicle physics and multiple cars, and local split-screen has to render more than one view at once. Still, resolution and frame-rate targets are not the same as a hands-on performance measurement. Your tolerance for 30 fps should be part of the purchase decision, especially if you normally choose racers for immediate steering response and consistent frame pacing.

Loading times

Long transitions are the most consistent criticism across platform-tested reviews. One review reports very long waits when moving between the open world and events while otherwise finding the frame rate locked to the 30 fps target. Final Weapon reports loads averaging about 30 seconds during its playthrough. If you prefer rapid retries, frequent event hopping or a seamless open world, these interruptions can outweigh the game’s strengths.

Loading is more disruptive here than a single slow boot. The campaign encourages you to move between exploration and activities, and a failed attempt can make a quick retry feel less quick. A player who plans short sessions may spend a noticeable share of that time waiting for a transition. Conversely, if you tend to complete a group of events in one sitting and do not mind a pause between areas, the same issue may be tolerable rather than fatal.

Stutters, input lag and crashes

Reports beyond loading vary. Nintendo Wire describes 30 fps handheld play, stutters in some open areas and perceived input lag, and says docked play did not materially improve the experience. Final Weapon says most of its session was fine but records a freeze and two race-start crashes. What’s It Like? reports no other performance issue besides loading. These are separate reviewers’ experiences on their tested builds, not a confirmed universal crash rate or proof of the current post-patch state.

The practical conclusion is risk tolerance. Players sensitive to frame pacing, delayed controls or interruptions should be cautious. Players who accept a 30 fps arcade racer and can tolerate waits may find the underlying driving satisfying. Do not treat one reviewer’s clean session as proof that every system will be trouble-free, and do not treat isolated crashes as a measured failure rate for all owners.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Handheld and docked play also deserve realistic expectations. Nintendo Wire’s reviewer found 30 fps handheld and said docked play did not materially improve the experience. That does not mean every setup will look or feel identical, but it does mean buying the console dock primarily to solve this game’s reported issues is not supported by that test.

Multiplayer limits you should know

Mode Official listing Important qualification
Single system 1–4 players Local split-screen races have a six-vehicle total cap, including AI, according to Milestone’s representative.
Online 2–12 players Nintendo’s listing says online play is limited to Switch 2 users.

The six-vehicle figure is specifically for local split-screen races. It is not a blanket limit on every mode or on online player counts. Milestone explained that rendering the world and physics in multiple split-screen views is demanding, so compromises were made to maintain the frame-rate target.

That distinction matters for planning a group session. Nintendo’s “up to four players” describes people using one system, while the developer’s six-vehicle limit describes the total field in a local split-screen race, including computer-controlled vehicles. Four human players therefore cannot assume that a full field of additional AI cars will also appear. Online, Nintendo lists two to twelve players, but the store listing says that online play is restricted to Switch 2 users, so do not assume cross-generation matchmaking.

Local multiplayer is consequently a good reason to consider the game, but it is not a reason to ignore the performance caveat. Split-screen is exactly the mode in which the developer says rendering becomes more demanding. If your purchase is mainly for occasional couch play, test your tolerance for the 30 fps target and loading before committing to a premium bundle.

Standard, Deluxe and Ultimate editions

Nintendo lists the base release as a digital Switch 2 edition and lists a Vehicle Pass plus separate downloadable packs. The Deluxe Edition includes the full game and Vehicle Pass. The Ultimate Edition includes the full game, Vehicle Pass, Ferrari Expansion Pack and Car Collection Pack. Nintendo says Vehicle Pass content will be available by October 2027.

Edition Included content How to judge it
Standard Full game Includes the islands, collection, builder and core modes described by the publisher.
Deluxe Full game + Vehicle Pass Consider only if the Vehicle Pass cars and content justify its live regional price.
Ultimate Full game + Vehicle Pass + Ferrari Expansion Pack + Car Collection Pack For players who specifically want all listed add-ons; compare the current store price before upgrading.

The available listing does not establish that paid vehicle packs are required to enjoy the base campaign, exploration or builder. Nintendo’s retrieved text also does not provide a reliable current base price here, so check the live regional Nintendo eShop listing before deciding which tier is good value. Prices and bundles can change.

The safest way to compare the tiers is to separate your desire for the game from your desire for extra vehicles. The standard edition supplies the four islands, the collection target, Track Builder and the listed modes. Deluxe adds the Vehicle Pass; Ultimate adds that pass plus the Ferrari and Car Collection packs. If you mainly want to see whether the handling, loading and open-world rhythm suit you, the base edition limits your financial exposure. If completing a large garage is the point of the purchase, calculate whether the pass and packs are worth their current regional difference rather than assuming “Ultimate” is automatically the best deal.

Switch 2 versus other platforms

The available developer interview indicates higher stated resolution and frame-rate targets for other platforms, but there are no platform-tested reviews here that support a definitive, side-by-side performance ranking. That makes the comparison useful as a question, not a guarantee. A buyer choosing between versions should check current reviews for the specific hardware, then compare loading, frame pacing and input response rather than relying only on a headline resolution number.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Switch 2 has clear practical advantages if you want Nintendo’s hardware, portable play or local multiplayer. Its known compromises are equally clear: a 1080p/30 fps target and repeated reports of long transitions. If another platform offers a higher target and its tested version has more consistent streaming, that may be the better fit for a performance-first player. The evidence does not justify promising that every other platform is flawless, so treat this as a reason to investigate, not an automatic recommendation to switch.

Who should buy it?

Good fit

  • Hot Wheels fans who want a large vehicle-collecting goal.
  • Arcade-racing players who enjoy trying distinct car classes.
  • Players who want to customize vehicles and make tracks.
  • Groups looking for local split-screen sessions, within the six-vehicle race limit.
  • Players comfortable with 30 fps and potentially lengthy transitions.
  • Players who enjoy exploring themed islands and mixing races with time attacks, stunts and destruction challenges.

Approach cautiously

  • Anyone expecting a polished, fast-loading open-world racer.
  • Players highly sensitive to stutters, input lag or frame pacing.
  • People who want a campaign with little repetition between events.
  • Buyers who require stable crash-free sessions based on one review’s reported experience.
  • Players who expect docked mode alone to solve handheld performance concerns.
  • Anyone buying an expensive edition before confirming that the base game’s handling and loading rhythm are enjoyable.

A practical buying decision

  1. Choose your priority. If collecting, customization and track creation are the main appeal, the standard game contains the foundational systems. If you mainly want a seamless technical showcase, the Switch 2 version is a riskier choice.
  2. Set your performance expectation. Treat 1080p/30 fps as the stated target and assume transitions may be long. Do not interpret “30 fps target” as a promise of perfect frame pacing in every open area.
  3. Decide how you will play. Handheld and docked are both available, but one tested review found docked play did not materially improve the experience. Plan around your own sensitivity to delay and stutter.
  4. Check your multiplayer plan. Local play supports up to four people, but split-screen races cap total vehicles at six; online supports two to twelve Switch 2 users. Make sure your friends are on compatible hardware.
  5. Compare the live edition prices. Buy Deluxe or Ultimate only for the specific Vehicle Pass and expansion content you want. Nintendo says Vehicle Pass content will arrive by October 2027, so consider whether you are comfortable waiting for the full schedule.
  6. Consider storage. The digital download is listed at 12.7 GB. Confirm available Switch 2 storage before purchase, particularly if you keep several large games installed.
  7. Consider waiting. If loading or inconsistent frame pacing would ruin the experience, wait for documented updates or compare another platform rather than buying on hope. A patch could change the practical recommendation, but no particular fix should be assumed in advance.

Common pitfalls before purchase

Do not confuse the 150-plus vehicle marketing figure with an independently verified count of models available in every version or at every point in the release cycle. It is the publisher’s listed collection target. Likewise, do not mistake the six-vehicle local figure for a six-player or six-car limit in online modes; it applies to local split-screen races and includes AI.

Verdict

HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush is worth buying on Nintendo Switch 2 for the right audience, not as a universal recommendation. Its four islands, 150-plus-vehicle target, flexible builder and multiplayer give collectors and toy-car enthusiasts plenty to do. The platform’s 30 fps target and repeatedly reported loading delays make it a poor fit for players demanding fast, polished open-world performance. The safest purchase is the standard digital edition after checking the current eShop listing; upgrade only when the additional vehicles and expansions are central to your plans.

In short, buy for the content loop and accept the technical trade-off, or wait if technical smoothness is the content loop for you. That is the clearest answer to whether it is worth buying on Switch 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HOT WHEELS Infinite Rush 60 fps on Nintendo Switch 2?

No. Milestone’s stated Switch 2 target is 1080p at 30 fps. That is a target specification, not an independent guarantee of perfectly locked performance in every scene.

How bad are the loading times?

Loading is the most consistent criticism in tested reviews. One reviewer described very long transitions between the open world and events, while Final Weapon reported averages of about 30 seconds. The exact wait can vary by situation and build.

Does the game have stutters or crashes on Switch 2?

Reports differ. Nintendo Wire noted stutters in some open areas and perceived input lag; Final Weapon reported a freeze and two race-start crashes; What’s It Like? reported no issue beyond loading. These are individual test experiences, not a universal failure rate.

Can four people play locally?

Nintendo lists one to four players on a single system. For local split-screen races, Milestone specifies a six-vehicle total cap, including AI. That cap is not a general limit for online modes.

Does online multiplayer support cross-play?

Nintendo’s listing supports two to twelve online players and says online play is limited to Switch 2 users. Do not assume cross-generation or cross-platform matchmaking.

What is in the Deluxe and Ultimate editions?

Deluxe includes the full game and Vehicle Pass. Ultimate includes those items plus the Ferrari Expansion Pack and Car Collection Pack. Vehicle Pass content is listed as becoming available by October 2027.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is the standard edition enough?

The standard game includes the islands, vehicle collection, Track Builder and core modes described by the publisher. The available listing does not show that paid packs are necessary for the base campaign, so start with standard unless the add-on vehicles are a priority.

Is there a physical Switch 2 cartridge edition?

The Nintendo listing identifies the Switch 2 release as digital and gives a 12.7 GB download size. No specific physical edition is established by the listed product information.

Should performance-sensitive players buy it now?

They should be cautious. The 30 fps target and recurring loading complaints are established caveats, while reports of stutters, input lag and crashes vary. Waiting for documented updates or comparing a tested version on another platform is the safer choice.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy the standard digital edition if collecting 150-plus cars, exploring four islands, building tracks and playing locally matter more than 30 fps and long transitions. Wait or compare another platform if fast loading, precise frame pacing and consistently polished performance are non-negotiable.
