No official announcement promises that Kratos will return in 2029 or that a future God of War game will launch on PlayStation 6. PlayStation has announced God of War Laufey, a Faye-led game coming to PS5, and Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that the original Greek trilogy is being remade. Separately, GamesRadar+ reported remarks from creative lead Cory Barlog about a future Kratos-led game connected to Laufey—but no release window or platform was announced.
Is Kratos coming back in 2029 on PS6?
No. The consulted official announcements do not give a 2029 date or identify PS6 as a platform for a new Kratos-led game. GamesRadar+ reported that Cory Barlog described a Kratos-led game connected to the events of God of War Laufey, but its report names no title, launch window, or target platform. That is not confirmation of a 2029 release or a PS6 version. GamesRadar+’s report quotes Barlog saying: “Kratos is in another game immediately after this [that] directly connects to the events of the Laufey game, but don’t say anything about it to anyone,” he quips.

What is officially announced next?
God of War Laufey is the next announced chapter
PlayStation describes God of War Laufey as the next chapter in the franchise, centered on Faye (Laufey), and says it is coming to PS5. The PlayStation franchise catalog lists its release date as February 16, 2027. That makes it the clearest announced upcoming entry, but it is not described as a Kratos-led game. See PlayStation’s first look at God of War Laufey and the PlayStation God of War catalog.
The Greek trilogy remake has no announced date or platform
Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that the original God of War trilogy is being remade. The studio characterized the project as very early in development and said it would be a while before it could share more. Its announcement does not name a release date or platform. The studio’s statement about the remake should not be confused with Barlog’s reported remarks about a separate future Kratos-led game. Read the studio’s remake announcement.

- Take advantage of multidirectional 3D Audio; hear enemies approaching from any direction. (3D audio with stereo headphones (analog or USB))
- Bask in the beautiful worlds you travel through, brought to life by precise art direction and arresting attention to detail.

What can you play now?
If you want to continue Kratos’ Norse story, God of War Ragnarök is the released game in the comparison. PlayStation lists it for PS5 and PS4, with an original release date of November 9, 2022. Laufey is a distinct upcoming, Faye-led PS5 game listed for February 16, 2027.
| Game | Protagonist or focus | Status and date | Confirmed platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| God of War Ragnarök | Kratos’ Norse story | Released November 9, 2022 | PS5 and PS4 |
| God of War Laufey | Faye (Laufey) | Upcoming; PlayStation lists February 16, 2027 | PS5 |
These platform and date details are listed in PlayStation’s franchise catalog. They do not establish the release plans for an unannounced Kratos-led follow-up.
Rank #2
- Physical combat over the shoulder free camera brings the action closer than ever combat in God of war is up close frenetic and unflinching. Kratos' Axes powerful, magic and multi faceted is a brutal weapon as well as a versatile tool for exploration
- Midgard and beyond: Set within the untamed forests, mountains, and realms of Norse lore, God of war features a distinctly new setting with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters, and gods
- Vicious, physical combat with an over the shoulder free camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before
What the roadmap claim gets wrong
- 2029 is not an announced release date. None of the cited announcements or the GamesRadar+ report supplies that year for Kratos’ return.
- PS6 is not a confirmed platform. The reported future game has no announced target platform.
- There are distinct projects. The Faye-led Laufey, the early-stage Greek trilogy remake, and the Kratos-led game described in GamesRadar+’s report should not be treated as one release or one roadmap.
Until Sony or Santa Monica Studio announces a date and platform for the reported Kratos-led project, claims of a 2029 PS6 launch remain unconfirmed.
