Yes—The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is officially coming back. Nintendo has announced a new Nintendo Switch 2 version, and a current regional Nintendo store listing gives November 5, 2026 as its release date. Nintendo has not confirmed a version for the original Switch, Switch Lite, PC, PlayStation or Xbox.
The announcement confirms one new interaction: within range of the Switch 2 system’s built-in microphone, you can hum or play one of Link’s learned ocarina melodies and Link will perform that song in the game. Nintendo has not yet published the price, complete feature list, edition details or technical specifications.

Is this a real remake or still a rumor?
It is a real, officially announced Nintendo project, not a rumor or an unverified leak. Nintendo described the Nintendo 64 classic as returning for a new generation and being reborn on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. That wording establishes an official new release, but it does not yet explain how extensively the game has been rebuilt.
“Remake” is therefore the practical term many players will use, while Nintendo’s published announcement stops short of providing a detailed technical definition. The company has not shown a complete comparison with the Nintendo 64 version, identified the development team in its published announcements, or listed every change. Until those details appear, treat the project as an announced new Switch 2 version whose final scope is still being documented.

When does Ocarina of Time come out?
Nintendo’s current regional product page lists November 5, 2026. That is the clearest release information currently available, but a regional store page is not a guarantee that every territory will use identical launch timing. Check the Nintendo store for the country associated with your account before pre-ordering.
Nintendo has not stated a price in its published information. It also has not confirmed whether every market will receive the same purchase options, whether a physical cartridge will be available in each region, or whether the date applies equally to digital and physical formats. Retailer pages can appear before Nintendo publishes complete regional details, so compare their region, format, price and stock status with the local Nintendo listing.
Which console is required?
The product page labels the game a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. You should plan on needing Nintendo’s newer console to play it. Nintendo’s published announcements do not confirm compatibility with the original Nintendo Switch or Switch Lite, and they do not announce releases for PC, PlayStation or Xbox.

This matters even if you already own the earlier Switch. Do not assume that a game based on a Nintendo 64 classic will run through the older system’s software library. Nintendo has presented this product as a Switch 2 release, and no backward-compatibility statement for the original Switch has been published in the information currently available.

What new feature has Nintendo confirmed?
Hum or play melodies through the built-in microphone
Nintendo’s anniversary announcement describes a specific microphone interaction. When you are within range of the Switch 2 system’s built-in microphone, you can play or simply hum one of Link’s learned ocarina melodies. Link then performs that song in the game.
The wording establishes three limits that are easy to miss:
- You must have learned the melody in the game; the announcement does not say that arbitrary tunes are supported.
- The interaction depends on being within range of the console’s built-in microphone.
- Nintendo has documented this as a gameplay interaction, not as a general voice-control system or a promise that every song can be performed.
No other remake features are confirmed by Nintendo. Nintendo has not published a full list covering graphics settings, controls, audio changes, accessibility options, save handling or additional content.

The official announcement and regional product page establish the project, platform, date and microphone feature. They do not answer several practical buying and performance questions. The following points should remain open until Nintendo provides product specifications.

How should you plan a purchase?
If you are deciding whether to buy the game at launch, use Nintendo’s own listing as the reference point and separate confirmed facts from assumptions. This checklist prevents the most common mistakes.
- Confirm the hardware. Make sure you have access to a Nintendo Switch 2. An original Switch or Switch Lite should not be treated as compatible unless Nintendo explicitly adds support.
- Check the regional store. Verify that your Nintendo account’s country shows the November 5, 2026 date and review the local currency, taxes and availability.
- Choose a format only after details are published. Nintendo has not yet said whether a physical cartridge is available in every market or whether digital and physical versions launch simultaneously.
- Decide whether the microphone interaction matters to you. The announced feature uses the Switch 2 system’s built-in microphone and recognizes learned ocarina melodies. It is an optional interaction described by Nintendo, not a requirement to complete the game stated in the announcement.
- Wait for the specification sheet if performance is important. Resolution, frame rate, download size, save-transfer rules and accessibility options are not currently listed in Nintendo’s published information.
- Recheck listings close to launch. Regional pricing, stock, edition contents and format can change before release. Use the Nintendo page for the territory where you intend to play.
Why is the 40th anniversary relevant?
Nintendo’s official Zelda news index records a September 8, 2026 Direct announcement tied to The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, along with related anniversary products. That context explains why Nintendo is presenting Ocarina of Time as a return for a new generation.
The anniversary announcement is not, by itself, confirmation of additional game modes, a bundle, a collector’s edition or a broader remake program. Those details require separate product information. At present, the anniversary connection supports the timing and framing of the announcement, while the Switch 2 listing supplies the concrete platform and date.

What can players safely say about the remake today?
You can accurately describe Ocarina of Time as an officially announced Nintendo Switch 2 release scheduled on Nintendo’s current regional store page for November 5, 2026. You can also mention the built-in-microphone interaction for humming or playing learned ocarina melodies.
You should qualify anything beyond that. Nintendo has not yet supplied enough information to claim a price, a universal worldwide launch, a physical release in every territory, a particular graphics or frame-rate target, a developer, a performance mode, a save-transfer feature, or additional platforms. Calling those items confirmed would turn reasonable expectations into unsupported facts.
