Yes, an OVHcloud VPS can relay a 24/7 YouTube stream, but published bandwidth and an SLA do not prove that a particular plan, location, and route will stay live continuously. Suitability depends on whether the server can sustain your stream settings and maintain a reliable path to YouTube. Validate it with a prolonged test, monitor YouTube’s stream health, and test recovery before relying on it.
What OVHcloud’s VPS specifications tell you—and what they don’t
OVHcloud’s worldwide VPS page lists its VPS 2027 plans with 2–8 vCores, 4–24 GB RAM, public bandwidth from 500 Mbps to 3 Gbps, and unlimited traffic. The listed bandwidth is a guaranteed minimum allocation, according to OVHcloud’s VPS product page and its VPS FAQ. That is useful capacity information, but it is not a measurement of packet loss, jitter, or performance along the route from your server location to YouTube’s ingest servers.
| Worldwide VPS 2027 plan | vCores | RAM | NVMe storage | Public bandwidth | Traffic |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VPS-1 | 2 | 4 GB | 40 GB | 500 Mbps | Unlimited |
| VPS-2 | 4 | 8 GB | 75 GB | 1 Gbps | Unlimited |
| VPS-3 | 6 | 12 GB | 100 GB | 2 Gbps | Unlimited |
| VPS-4 | 8 | 24 GB | 200 GB | 3 Gbps | Unlimited |
These are the specifications on OVHcloud’s worldwide page; plan availability and checkout prices may vary by market and change. A headline bandwidth allocation is not the same as guaranteed end-to-end delivery to YouTube. Likewise, the published vCore and RAM counts do not establish how well a plan will encode a particular video.
Is the VPS suitable for your streaming workload?
Relaying an already encoded stream
If your software sends an already encoded stream, the VPS mainly needs to relay it reliably. Compare the stream’s configured bitrate with the plan’s guaranteed minimum public bandwidth, leaving room for protocol overhead and other server traffic. A large nominal margin is useful, but it cannot compensate for an unstable route or packet loss. The selected location and sustained connection still need testing.

Encoding or transcoding on the VPS
If the server must encode or transcode video, bandwidth is only part of the decision. CPU demand depends on the codec, resolution, frame rate, encoder settings, and workload. OVHcloud publishes resource allocations, not encoding benchmarks for those combinations. Test the exact workload and watch CPU use and dropped frames; do not assume a vCore count guarantees a particular encoding capacity.
Choosing a plan
For a relay, start with a plan whose allocated minimum bandwidth comfortably exceeds the configured stream bitrate, then test the connection from the intended server location. For encoding, select based on measured compute headroom under your actual settings. No listed tier can be declared sufficient for every stream solely from its specifications.

What the 99.9% SLA means for an always-on channel
OVHcloud advertises a 99.9% VPS SLA on its worldwide product page. The US VPS SLA, effective August 7, 2025, lists a 99.9% monthly availability commitment for its named classes. It defines unavailability as having no external connectivity; it also specifies measurement and support-case conditions and exclusions. Those US terms should not be assumed to apply to customers in other regions. Read the contract for the location and plan you would buy: OVHcloud US VPS Service Level Agreement.
As arithmetic, 99.9% of a 30-day month leaves about 43.8 minutes outside that availability percentage if the full month is measured. That is not a prediction of the downtime you will experience, and the SLA’s own definitions and exclusions govern. Availability credits are a contractual remedy, not a promise that a broadcast will never drop. A VPS can also remain reachable while the stream process, network route to YouTube, or YouTube ingest connection has a problem.

How to validate a VPS before depending on it
YouTube’s official encoder guidance gives bitrate ranges by resolution and frame rate, recommends testing upload bitrate and monitoring stream health, and recommends RTMPS. It lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for its RTMP/RTMPS encoder guidance, with HDR-specific caveats. Check the current page for the settings applicable to your format: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
- Set the target stream parameters. Choose the resolution, frame rate, codec, and bitrate you actually intend to use. Use YouTube’s current guidance for those settings and select RTMPS where supported.
- Check bandwidth headroom. Compare your configured bitrate with the selected plan’s listed minimum allocation. Allow for protocol overhead and any other traffic; do not treat the provider’s number as a guarantee of a clean route to YouTube.
- Run a representative sustained test. Use a private or unlisted YouTube stream with the expected motion and audio. A static test image may not reveal the behavior of a more demanding real stream.
- Monitor both ends. Watch server CPU and memory if encoding, plus process health and network behavior. In YouTube Studio, inspect the stream-health panel for warnings, dropped frames, or connection problems.
- Test recovery deliberately. Simulate a stream-process interruption and, where practical, a network interruption. Confirm how the process restarts, whether it reconnects to YouTube, and whether an operator or alert is needed. A single VPS does not by itself provide a backup source or server.
- Repeat for the intended duration and location. A brief successful connection cannot establish 24/7 reliability. Test from the exact VPS location and plan you intend to use, over a meaningful sustained period, before treating the setup as production-ready.
When to consider dedicated hosting or another design
If your workload needs more resources or a different bandwidth allocation, compare the specific dedicated-server plan and its terms with your VPS. OVHcloud presents dedicated servers as an option for higher bandwidth or resource-intensive needs, and its dedicated-bandwidth page specifically mentions live streaming as a reason to consider guaranteed bandwidth. Neither fact establishes uninterrupted delivery to YouTube; the route, contract, and recovery design still matter.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For a stream where interruptions have meaningful consequences, prioritize redundancy and recovery: monitoring, restart automation, a backup source or server, and a clear response plan. Compare availability definitions, exclusions, measurement procedures, and remedies for the exact regional contract. A larger single server may improve capacity, but it is not a substitute for a tested recovery design.

- YouTube reports unstable or insufficient bitrate: Check the configured bitrate against YouTube’s current guidance and the VPS allocation; then test the route from that location. If the path remains unstable, try a different server location or hosting arrangement rather than relying on the bandwidth headline alone.
- Encoding drops frames or overloads the CPU: Confirm whether the VPS is encoding or merely relaying. For encoding, reduce computational load or use a plan with more suitable measured headroom, then retest with the same codec, resolution, and frame rate.
- The broadcast stops after the streaming process exits: Add process monitoring and restart automation, and verify that restart behavior reconnects successfully to YouTube. Test this before going live; automatic recovery should not be assumed from the VPS SLA.
- The server is online but the YouTube broadcast is not: Check YouTube stream health and the active encoder connection, not just server reachability. The SLA’s connectivity definition does not certify the full path to YouTube ingest.
- Downtime is unacceptable despite a successful test: A test describes the tested plan, location, and period; it cannot rule out future failures. Add a backup path and evaluate the applicable contractual terms before relying on one VPS.
Or let it run in the cloud
For pre-recorded video that should loop as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is the simpler alternative to operating your own VPS: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps it running without a home computer, OBS, or home connection staying on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, and includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; one free day is available per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and streams to YouTube only. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
