Likely yes, if your channel is eligible for memberships. YouTube describes channel memberships as monthly payments for member perks, separately from Super Chat and Super Stickers, which depend on live chat. Its published membership requirements do not list live chat as a condition. But YouTube does not expressly guarantee that a single continuous 24/7 stream with chat completely disabled will earn memberships, so treat this as a policy-based inference, not a specific promise from YouTube.
Memberships and live-chat payments are different features
YouTube describes channel memberships as monthly payments viewers make in exchange for members-only perks. Super Chat and Super Stickers, by contrast, are purchases tied to messages or images in live chat. YouTube lists memberships, ads, and Super Chat or Super Stickers as separate ways to earn from livestreams. YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies and its livestream monetization guidance make that distinction.
That separation is why disabling chat is not, by itself, evidence that memberships are disabled. It does mean viewers cannot use chat-dependent features in that stream, including Super Chat and Super Stickers.
What turning chat off changes for members
Some membership interactions during a livestream happen through chat. YouTube says a new member joining during a live stream can send a message in live chat, and member milestone messages are also live-chat interactions. With chat unavailable, viewers may lose those opportunities in that stream. The reviewed membership guidance does not say that those interactions are required for a membership to remain active or for the channel to offer memberships.

Do not confuse fully disabled chat with members-only chat. YouTube’s live-chat settings allow a creator to restrict who can post to members while the public can still watch the stream. That is a chat-access setting, not the same thing as disabling the channel’s membership feature. See YouTube’s guidance on membership benefits.
Check whether your channel can offer memberships
A livestream does not make a channel eligible on its own. YouTube’s current “How to earn money on YouTube” page, accessed in 2026, lists these membership thresholds and requirements:

- At least three public uploads in the last 90 days.
- Either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the last 365 days, or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the last 90 days.
- The creator must be at least 18, live in a country or region where memberships are available, accept the applicable Commerce Product Module or earlier Commerce Product Addendum, and meet YouTube’s channel and content restrictions.
These are thresholds stated on YouTube’s official page, not a guarantee that a particular channel or stream qualifies. YouTube also says updated Partner Program terms are due to begin February 1, 2027, with creators asked to review and accept them by January 31, 2027. Check the live eligibility page and your Studio account for current requirements and feature availability.
How to verify the setting in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and check the channel’s monetization area for channel-membership eligibility and setup. YouTube’s documented process covers enabling memberships and configuring levels and perks; it does not list enabling live chat as a setup requirement. Follow the current membership levels and perks instructions shown for your account.
- Review the live stream’s chat setting separately. Decide whether chat is fully off or restricted to members; members-only chat still lets eligible members post while other viewers watch.
- After the stream is live, confirm that memberships are available on the channel and that the stream is operating under your intended chat setting. YouTube’s published guidance does not specifically certify the combination of one uninterrupted 24/7 stream and fully disabled chat.
What can and cannot be concluded about a 24/7 stream
The policy-based answer is yes: memberships are documented as a separate revenue feature, and the published membership eligibility list does not include live chat. The limit is important: YouTube’s official guidance reviewed here does not expressly address whether a single continuous 24/7 livestream with all chat disabled is guaranteed to remain eligible for membership revenue. Stream-specific restrictions, channel status, or policy changes could still matter. Check current Studio settings and YouTube’s policies rather than treating the inference as a guarantee.

Memberships also do not guarantee a particular amount of income. The official materials establish the feature and eligibility requirements, not how many viewers will join or whether disabling chat changes viewer behavior or conversion.
