Paramount+ has not been announced as shut down. Skydance, the company formed after its October 6, 2026 acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery closed, says its direct-to-consumer streaming products will unify into one service over time. It has not announced a name, launch date, subscriber migration process, or future price for that service.
What the Paramount+ phaseout announcement actually says
Skydance’s October 6 announcement confirms that its Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition is complete. The combined company includes Paramount and Warner Bros. studios, CBS, HBO, streaming services, sports assets, and news organizations. That corporate change is finished; the streaming change is not.

The company said its direct-to-consumer products “will unify into a single service over time.” That describes a future plan, not a shutdown already in progress. The announcement gives no schedule for when the services might combine or when Paramount+ might stop operating as a separate app or subscription.
The Associated Press likewise reported on October 6 that the future service’s name and effects on consumer costs and choices were unknown. Skydance CEO David Ellison has said, “Our viewpoint is, HBO should stay HBO,” and indicated that bringing platforms together could expose more viewers to the companies’ content. Those remarks offer a view of HBO’s brand, but do not confirm how the eventual service will be branded or organized.

Until the companies publish concrete instructions, subscribers should not assume that a particular app, account, plan, or price will automatically carry over. What Paramount+ currently offers
Skydance’s current Paramount+ page describes Essential and Premium plans. It presents Premium as including the full Showtime portfolio, live CBS streams, and an expanded lineup of live sports and events; the page says all subscribers can access CBS News Network and CBS Sports HQ. These are descriptions of the current offering, not guarantees about what a future combined service will include. Plan details and pricing can change, so consult the official Paramount+ page for current terms.

Why the acquisition does not tell you what the new service will be
Skydance’s announcement describes a much larger content business, including more than 200 million streaming subscribers across its platforms, but that is the company’s combined-platform figure—not a Paramount+ subscriber count. It also cites company-wide goals of at least 30 theatrical films annually, more than 180 television shows and series, and at least $6 billion in run-rate synergies within three years. These corporate figures do not establish a Paramount+ shutdown date, a new service’s launch plan, or a subscription price.
The transaction closes a corporate deal; combining apps, libraries, billing systems, and customer accounts is a separate product decision. Until Skydance publishes those details, the practical answer for subscribers is that Paramount+ remains a current service while its owner plans a future unification.
