As of October 8, 2026, Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page reports that online services are up and running, but account management and account creation are degraded. Sony lists gaming and social, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct as running. Third-party monitor IsDown, however, labels the situation a major PSN outage. Those reports describe different scopes, and neither establishes that all PS5 and PS4 players are offline.
What is the PSN status right now?
Sony’s official PlayStation Service Status page is the best first check because its component-level status can change. Its October 8 report says, “PlayStation’s online services are up and running, but there are external, internet-wide issues that might affect your experience.” It also warns, “You might have difficulty signing in or creating an account. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”
In that report, Sony lists account management and account creation as degraded, while gaming and social, PlayStation Video, the PlayStation Store, and PlayStation Direct are running. This points to a problem affecting account-related functions; it is not evidence of a blanket PSN shutdown on either console.
Why does IsDown call it a major outage?
IsDown is a third-party service monitor, not Sony. Its October 8 incident listing classifies the situation as a major outage and identifies account management and account creation. It recorded two user reports in the preceding 24 hours. The difference in wording reflects a different source and assessment: Sony reports which components it considers affected, while IsDown applies its own monitoring and incident classification.

The available reports do not establish a region-by-region impact map or show that every PS5 or PS4 user is affected. Sony’s status page should guide decisions about Sony’s services; a third-party monitor can provide additional context, but it does not replace Sony’s component status.
Is PSN down for everyone or just you?
If Sony lists the service you need as degraded, a connection problem may be on Sony’s side. If its page lists the relevant services as running, check whether the problem is limited to your console, account, or local network. The October 8 status does not establish a universal outage, so a failed sign-in or game connection by itself cannot show that PSN is down for everyone.

What to do if you can’t connect on PS5 or PS4
Sony’s guidance on two specific PS5 connection errors offers basic steps that may help with a connection problem. They are not guaranteed fixes for a service-side incident, and the cited error pages do not establish that these steps resolve the October 8 issue.
- Check PSN status. Open Sony’s PlayStation Service Status page and check the component related to the feature you cannot use.
- Restart the console. For error WS-116483-3, Sony recommends restarting the PS5, then trying again after a while.
- Restart the router. Sony’s WS-116483-3 guidance says to turn off the router, wait at least five minutes, restart it, and then try again.
- Wait and retry if the error is maintenance-related. For error CE-108877-1, Sony says PSN may be under maintenance, advises checking service status, and suggests trying again after a few hours.
These are steps from Sony’s guidance for the named PS5 errors. For a PS4 issue or a different error code, check the corresponding PlayStation Support page rather than assuming the same steps or cause apply.

Is there a confirmed cause or estimated fix time?
No cause for the October 8 issue is established by the sources cited here. Sony’s status message says it is working to resolve the account-related issue, but it does not give a restoration time. Avoid treating speculation about Sony’s infrastructure, an internet provider, or an attack as confirmed.
IsDown’s rolling 90-day summary, as displayed on October 8, 2026, showed four PSN incidents and a median resolution duration of 2 hours 45 minutes. Those are IsDown’s third-party historical estimates, not Sony figures and not a prediction of how long this incident will last.
