Is Red Dead Redemption 2 60 FPS on Xbox Series X?

RDR2 runs on Xbox Series X through backward compatibility. Its Xbox One X Enhanced label is not a 60 fps mode; the best-supported current answer is 30 fps.

No. Red Dead Redemption 2 runs on Xbox Series X through backward compatibility, and the best-supported current answer is that it remains at 30 fps. The official sources reviewed do not document a 60 fps mode or a Series X|S upgrade.

How RDR2 runs on Xbox Series X

Rockstar said on November 6, 2020, that the Xbox One version of Red Dead Redemption 2 would be playable on Xbox Series X|S through backward compatibility. The announcement did not describe a native Series X|S edition or a frame-rate upgrade. Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement establishes playability, not a new performance mode.

The Xbox store listing likewise says the game is playable on Series X|S and labels it Xbox One X Enhanced. That enhancement label is not a 60 fps promise, and the listing does not establish a precise Series X resolution. The Xbox listing should not be read as evidence of a dedicated current-generation version.

Why FPS Boost does not automatically make it 60 fps

Microsoft’s FPS Boost feature is applied to selected backward-compatible games; it is not a blanket setting that raises the frame rate of every older title. Microsoft’s February 17, 2021 announcement describes the feature and its initial supported games, but does not name Red Dead Redemption 2 in that group. Microsoft’s FPS Boost announcement does not establish an RDR2-specific exclusion statement, but it gives no basis for assuming FPS Boost applies to the game.

What the official update information says

Rockstar’s surfaced Red Dead Redemption 2 Title Update 1.24 notes list PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia, and were last updated January 9, 2025. They do not document a Series X|S 60 fps update. This supports the current 30 fps answer; it does not establish whether Rockstar might announce an update later. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.24 notes identify the platforms covered by those notes.

What will not unlock 60 fps

  • A 120 Hz television or a console display setting cannot add a game mode that the title does not provide.
  • Xbox One X Enhanced, 4K and HDR labels describe different capabilities from frame rate; none is, by itself, a 60 fps mode.
  • Buying or playing the Xbox One version on Series X provides backward-compatible access, not a documented Series X|S performance upgrade.

There is no official future-update plan established by these sources. The accurate answer is that no 60 fps mode or update is documented in them, not that an update is impossible.
