It launched in 2021, and the original coverage appeared on February 2, 2022—not in 2026. Its appeal is still easy to understand: a wired USB-C gamepad, built-in phone holder and pass-through charging in one handheld setup. Whether it is worth buying now depends on your phone, the games you play and how cheaply you can find it.
What the RiotPWR ESL controller is
The Android version, commonly listed as model RP1925ESL, is a white-and-green, wired mobile controller made with ESL. It connects directly to a compatible Android phone over USB-C, while an integrated “Zero Gravity” holder supports the phone above the controls. The layout includes two analog sticks, an 8-way D-pad, a share button and a 3.5-mm audio jack; the design also supports pass-through charging. The Android model is distinct from other versions, so check that a listing names the Android USB-C model. ESL’s 2021 announcement, a product listing and another listing describe its features.
The original Droid Life coverage was published February 2, 2022. Treat its hands-on impressions as observations from that time, not as a fresh 2026 performance test.
What it changes about playing on a phone
For games designed around console or PC controls, physical sticks, triggers and buttons can be more comfortable than on-screen touch controls. The RiotPWR combines the gamepad, phone support and a direct connection, avoiding the separate pairing and phone-clip steps of a typical Bluetooth controller. Its wired design also means there is no controller battery to charge, and pass-through charging can help keep the phone powered during a session.

That convenience is about the hardware setup, not the cloud service. A direct connection may avoid Bluetooth pairing and its associated battery routine, but there is no supplied measurement establishing a particular input-latency improvement. Cloud play still depends on the network, the streaming service and the game.
Does it work with Xbox Cloud Gaming?
Xbox lists Android phones and tablets running Android 12 or later as supported for Xbox Cloud Gaming on its mobile compatibility page. The controller may provide input for compatible games, but the phone, game, region and account must also be eligible. Xbox presents access plans and controller readiness as separate considerations on its cloud-gaming page; do not assume that every Game Pass title is streamable or supports controller input in the same way.

GeForce NOW and other Android gaming uses
NVIDIA lists Android devices and supported gamepads among the options for GeForce NOW. The service streams supported games associated with the user’s accounts or storefronts; this controller does not supply a game library or membership. Because platform requirements can change, check NVIDIA’s current system requirements for your device and controller before relying on an older compatibility claim.
NVIDIA recommends at least 15 Mbps for HD streaming up to 60 fps and 25 Mbps for Full HD at 60 fps, and recommends latency below 80 ms to an NVIDIA data center. Those are service requirements and recommendations, not a promise of smooth play. NVIDIA also recommends 5-GHz Wi-Fi or Ethernet where practical. Steam Link, remote-play apps and native Android games may also work, but compatibility depends on the app and individual game recognizing and mapping a controller.

Why a wired controller cannot fix cloud lag
Cloud gaming sends your inputs to a remote service and streams the resulting video back. Responsiveness can be affected by internet speed, Wi-Fi signal and congestion, distance to the data center, encoding and decoding, device performance, service load, and the game’s frame rate and stream settings. A USB-C controller can simplify the input connection; it cannot remove delays elsewhere in that path. If play feels sluggish, check the network and service conditions rather than expecting the controller alone to solve it.
Check your phone and game before setup
- USB-C data support: The controller needs a phone port that can handle USB accessories, not just charging. USB-C alone does not guarantee compatibility.
- Physical fit: Check the phone’s dimensions, port position and clearance. A thick case, camera bump, rugged shell or unusual design may interfere with the plug or holder. The available product information does not establish a complete current phone-fit list.
- Charging behavior: Pass-through charging does not establish fast-charging rates or compatibility with every charger and phone. USB power behavior can vary by device.
- Game support: A phone may recognize a gamepad while a particular game does not support it, uses touch controls, or needs a control profile. Verify the game’s input options.
- Port condition: A dirty, loose or damaged USB-C port can prevent reliable connection.
Set it up and check input
- Confirm that your Android phone has USB-C and supports USB data accessories. Check the cloud service’s current device requirements as well.
- If the plug or holder does not fit around the case, remove the case before mounting the phone.
- Fit the phone into the integrated holder, then connect the controller’s USB-C plug to the phone.
- Open the cloud-gaming app or compatible game and launch a title known to support a controller.
- Check that the game responds to the sticks and buttons. Connect a charger to the pass-through port if needed, then confirm that the phone charges as expected.
If the controller is not recognized, remove the case, reconnect the plug and make sure the phone supports USB accessories. Try another controller-compatible game, restart the phone, and look for a USB accessory permission prompt. Updating the cloud-gaming app or testing with pass-through charging disconnected may help isolate the cause. If buttons work in one place but not in a game, verify that game’s controller support and mapping options before assuming the hardware is defective.

Where this older controller fits against alternatives
The RiotPWR makes the most sense for an Android owner who wants a simple, wired phone-and-controller unit and finds it at a substantial discount. Its age matters less if that is all you need; it matters more if you want one controller for several devices, wireless play, advanced features or clear current support information.

Who should buy it in 2026?
Consider it if you already own a compatible USB-C Android phone, prefer wired controls, mostly play controller-compatible games and can find the controller well below the price of newer options. Skip it if you need wireless play, broad cross-device use, advanced remapping or features such as Hall-effect sticks, or if its price approaches a newer model. In particular, it is not the answer to weak Wi-Fi, high network latency or a game that does not support a controller.
Before ordering, confirm the exact Android model, phone fit, current price, return policy and support for the service and games you intend to play. Xbox Cloud Gaming access or a GeForce NOW membership, suitable games and a reliable connection are separate parts of the setup.
