Roblox’s localized China app, LuoBuLeSi, stopped serving users on December 8, 2021. This was not a shutdown of Roblox worldwide. Roblox said the pause would allow it to invest in data architecture and take other transitional steps while building a next version with Tencent. As of Roblox’s fiscal 2025 filing, submitted February 11, 2026, the app was still unavailable in China, and the filing gave no relaunch date.
What happened to Roblox China?
LuoBuLeSi was Roblox’s localized service for China, published and operated by Tencent. Its servers closed on December 8, 2021, about five months after its iOS and Android launch. The closure affected that China-specific app, not the global Roblox platform. TechCrunch reported the shutdown and Roblox’s explanation.
Roblox’s spokesperson said the company needed to make “important transitory actions” and investments in data architecture as it built the next version of LuoBuLeSi. The spokesperson also said the company’s long-term goal in China had not changed. Those are the company’s stated reasons and intentions; the public explanation did not identify a more specific operational cause.
Is Roblox available in China now?
No, not as LuoBuLeSi. Roblox’s fiscal 2025 Form 10-K, filed February 11, 2026, said the app was still not available to users in China while Roblox and Tencent worked on the next version. The filing did not announce when, or whether on a particular date, the app would return. Roblox’s 2025 Form 10-K is the latest cited company status statement here.

Does Luobu still have a role in China?
Roblox’s filing describes Luobu, its Shenzhen-based China joint venture, as focused on localizing Roblox Studio, licensing it to Chinese creators, and supporting developers as they build and publish experiences to Roblox’s global platform. That developer and Studio work is distinct from whether Chinese users can access the LuoBuLeSi consumer app.
Roblox reported that it owned 51% of the joint venture and Tencent affiliate Songhua River Investment held 49%. The filing’s description of Luobu’s developer work should not be read as confirmation that the consumer app is available.

Why did Roblox shut down in China?
The confirmed public explanation is that Roblox planned transitional work, including investment in data architecture, to build the next version of LuoBuLeSi. Regulatory and child-gaming restrictions in China were discussed as broader context in contemporaneous coverage, but the cited company statement did not establish them as the cause of this shutdown. Tencent did not comment to TechCrunch at the time of its report.
