No—do not buy the PC version of Splinter Cell: Double Agent if online co-op is the main reason. Ubisoft’s current product page says online features are no longer supported and that “Multiplayer and co-op modes are no longer functional.” Steam displays the same warning. The original PC release did include co-op challenges, but that historical feature is not available through the supported PC service today.
The game may still interest someone seeking its single-player stealth campaign or a 2006 PC release for a personal collection. However, current price, regional availability, modern-PC performance and any unofficial restoration method are not established here, so none should be assumed before purchase.

The short answer for a two-player purchase
If your plan is to buy two copies and play together online, this PC edition is a poor purchase. The publisher and the Steam store both disclose that multiplayer and co-op no longer function. What the current listings actually say
Ubisoft’s product page
Ubisoft lists the PC release with a September 1, 2006 release date. Its current notice reads: “Online features for this game are no longer supported. Multiplayer and co-op modes are no longer functional.” The same listing identifies Ubisoft as publisher, names PC as a platform, and says PC content is added to Ubisoft Connect.
Steam’s warning
The official Steam listing repeats the same service notice: “Please note: online features for this game are no longer supported. Multiplayer and co-op modes are no longer functional.” Seeing the warning on both the publisher’s page and the storefront means a normal purchase-and-invite flow should not be expected to work.
What “no longer functional” means for a buyer
- Do not count on matchmaking, game invites or an online co-op session between two friends.
- Do not interpret the presence of an old multiplayer menu as proof that the backend still operates.
- Do not treat the original feature list or an old box description as a current availability guarantee.
Co-op was part of the original PC design
The original PC manual describes Internet play through DemonWare and includes co-op challenges. That documentation confirms that co-op was an intended feature of the 2006 release. It does not confirm that DemonWare or any replacement service remains online now.

This distinction matters when reading older reviews, forum posts or videos. A guide written when the game launched can accurately describe co-op missions while still being obsolete as a buying guide. The manual is evidence of what shipped, whereas the current Ubisoft and Steam notices describe what is supported today.
Which purchase goals make sense?

The table separates the reason to buy from the game’s age. A discontinued online mode does not automatically make the solo campaign inaccessible, but it removes the specific feature asked about in this title.
PC requirements and account obligations
Operating system and launcher
Ubisoft’s current PC listing names Windows 10 and Windows 11 and requires a Ubisoft account plus the Ubisoft Connect launcher. The listing also indicates that PC content is added to Ubisoft Connect, so purchasing through another storefront does not necessarily remove Ubisoft’s account or launcher layer.

Steam client support
Steam’s listing states that its client supports Windows 10 and later. That statement concerns the Steam client; it is not a guarantee that every component of a 2006 game behaves correctly on every modern Windows configuration.

The Steam page includes legacy system requirements, but the material available for this buying decision does not establish a modern compatibility rate, frame-rate result or performance test for a particular computer. Use the live listing’s requirements as a starting point and judge your own hardware, drivers and installation environment rather than assuming a guaranteed result.
How to check before spending money
- Read the current service notice. Open the game’s present Ubisoft and Steam listings and confirm that the multiplayer/co-op warning is still displayed. Treat that notice as the deciding fact for an online purchase.
- Confirm the platform and edition. Make sure the offer is the PC release, not a console listing, a soundtrack, a bundle without the game or a second-hand key with unclear activation rights.
- Check the account path. Plan to create or use a Ubisoft account and install Ubisoft Connect if the listing requires it. If you are buying through Steam, allow for the additional publisher-account step.
- Check Windows support on the live page. Ubisoft names Windows 10 and Windows 11; Steam says its client supports Windows 10 and later. Read any updated notes shown at checkout or installation.
- Check the current price and region. Prices, taxes, stock and activation rights vary by country and change over time. They were not established for this article, so verify them in the store serving your account.
- Decide whether solo play is enough. If the answer is no, stop here rather than buying in the hope that an old co-op server will return.
Can an unofficial workaround restore co-op?
Community discussions mention possible unofficial methods, but no authoritative project documentation, maintenance history or repeatable testing establishes one as reliable. A forum post, an archived download or a video showing an old setup is not the same as a supported service.

Expect a legacy PC title that may require both the storefront client and Ubisoft Connect, depending on where you obtain it. Keep your receipt and activation information, install only from the store or launcher associated with your license, and use the current product page for any account or operating-system notes.

How to read old reviews and listings
- Date matters: reviews from the 2006 launch period describe the feature set at release, not its 2026 service status.
- Mode labels matter: “co-op challenges” in the manual identifies content that shipped; it does not say the content is currently connectable.
- Store notices outrank archival copy: the current publisher and storefront disclosures are the relevant evidence for a new purchase.
- Platform matters: information about a console edition or a private server should not be transferred to the PC listing without proof.
A practical decision rule
Use this rule before checkout: if co-op is essential, do not buy this PC version; if solo play is acceptable, evaluate it as an older single-player game and verify the live requirements, account flow, price and regional availability. That conclusion follows from the current service notices, while leaving room for a solo purchase based on your own interest in the campaign.
What is still unknown
The available official pages do not establish a player-count statistic, a compatibility percentage, performance on a specific modern PC, current regional pricing or a supported co-op restoration. They also do not provide a guarantee that every legacy component will operate identically across Windows installations. Those are reasons to check the live listing and your own setup, not reasons to assume that discontinued co-op is secretly available.
