Yes—STAR WARS: Galactic Racer is officially part of the Star Wars game and setting, and it uses locations and characters that movie fans will recognize. StarWars.com identifies Jakku as the desert world familiar from The Force Awakens, Crait as the world familiar from The Last Jedi, and Sebulba as the returning podracer associated with The Phantom Menace. Fuse Games says it made the game in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games.
That establishes a direct franchise and setting connection, but it does not by itself answer the separate question of formal canon status. The official announcements available for the October 6, 2026 launch do not explicitly label the game’s story “canon.” The safest description is that it is an official Star Wars racing adventure with film-connected places, characters and lore—not a movie adaptation and not a game with a publicly stated canon classification.

What “connected to the movies” means in Galactic Racer
There are two different connections that are easy to conflate. The first is whether the game belongs to the Star Wars universe and was made with the franchise’s official rights holders. The answer is yes. Fuse Games announced that Galactic Racer was created in close collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, and Secret Mode is the publisher identified in that announcement.

The second is whether every event in the game has been declared part of the formal Star Wars canon. The launch material and game descriptions cited for this release do not make that declaration. Recognizable planets, a familiar character and Lucasfilm Games’ involvement demonstrate an official relationship, but they are not a substitute for an explicit canon statement.

The practical answer for a player
If you want a racing game set in the Star Wars galaxy, Galactic Racer qualifies without reservation. You will race through worlds and references linked to the films, use vehicles drawn from several corners of the setting and encounter a story framed around the post-Imperial era. If you need to know whether its original plot is guaranteed to sit inside the same continuity as every film, series and novel, the currently cited official material leaves that point open.
Which movie locations and characters appear?
StarWars.com’s October 6, 2026 launch coverage is specific about several recognizable connections. These are not merely visual similarities: the article names the worlds and character in relation to their film appearances.
| Galactic Racer element | Movie connection identified in official coverage | What that means in play |
|---|---|---|
| Jakku | Described as familiar from Star Wars: The Force Awakens | A film-recognizable desert setting is part of the racing circuit. |
| Crait | Described as familiar to The Last Jedi fans | The game uses a location associated with the sequel trilogy as a race environment. |
| Tatooine | Named among the Star Wars worlds represented in the game | The classic desert planet is another setting reference for the league. |
| Sebulba | The returning podracer associated with The Phantom Menace | A known racer from the prequel-era film appears in the game’s racing world. |
The list is not presented as a complete catalog of every world, vehicle or character in the game. It does establish the kind of connection to expect: Galactic Racer draws from multiple eras of Star Wars rather than inventing an isolated science-fiction universe that only borrows the name.

Galactic Racer takes place after the Empire’s fall, while the New Republic is rebuilding. The official launch description and the Steam listing both use that broad historical framing. Neither source gives a precise in-universe calendar year, so it would be misleading to assign the game a specific date between named films.

The post-Imperial setting
The political background matters because it explains why an underground racing league can become important. With the Empire gone and the New Republic still establishing itself, authority is uneven across the galaxy. The Galactic League operates as an underground circuit in the Outer Rim, where racers, mechanics, rivals and local powers can pursue their own interests beyond the direct reach of the new government.
Shade’s role
You play as Shade, a racer drawn into the League and its rivalries. The launch article identifies Kestar Bool and the Bool family as central to Shade’s conflict, and it names Hibi as Shade’s mechanic. Sebulba’s involvement ties the new competition to the older podracing tradition seen in The Phantom Menace.
This is an original racing-adventure plot built around those characters and circumstances. It is not a retelling of The Phantom Menace, the sequel trilogy or any other Star Wars film. The films provide the setting’s history and recognizable touchstones; Shade’s campaign supplies the game’s own conflict.

Galactic Racer is best understood as a runs-based racing adventure with several vehicle classes, rather than as a straight adaptation of a single movie race. The official descriptions emphasize solo progression, competitive play, vehicle customization and decisions that can change the risk and reward of an individual run.

Several kinds of repulsorcraft
The launch and game pages name landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers. These are not presented as cosmetic skins for one identical machine. The game’s description distinguishes repulsorcraft classes and points to tactical advantages, so choosing a vehicle is part of deciding how to approach an event.
- Landspeeders: a grounded Star Wars vehicle type suited to the game’s surface racing environments.
- Speeder bikes: lightweight, fast machines that reflect the franchise’s familiar single-rider design.
- Skim speeders: another repulsorcraft class included in the game’s range of handling options.
- Podracers: the class most directly associated with the film’s high-speed podracing tradition, including Sebulba’s connection.
The available descriptions do not provide a complete acceleration, top-speed or handling chart for every craft. Treat the classes as meaningful strategic choices, not as published performance rankings.
Runs, routes and risk
The campaign is described as high-stakes and runs-based. You choose events, take branching routes and make risk-reward decisions during a run. Some perks and unlocks carry over between runs, giving failed or completed attempts a longer-term purpose instead of resetting every piece of progress.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTakedowns are part of the design, so winning is not limited to following the cleanest racing line. A route may offer a safer path with fewer rewards or a more dangerous option that can improve a build if you survive it. Because the route and event choices shape the run, the campaign should feel closer to a sequence of strategic racing attempts than to a fixed list of identical laps.

Modes available at launch
StarWars.com’s launch article lists Campaign, Scenario and Arcade modes. The official game description also refers to solo and competitive multiplayer, so the launch package is designed for both a narrative-focused player and someone who wants repeatable races.
| Mode | Purpose | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | The main story experience | Shade’s run through the Galactic League, with rivalries, branching choices, unlocks and carry-over perks. |
| Scenario | Structured racing challenges | Events built around particular conditions or objectives rather than only progressing the main story. |
| Arcade | Quick, repeatable racing | A way to focus on individual events and racing practice without committing to a full campaign run. |
| Competitive multiplayer | Race against other players | Multiplayer competition in the game’s customizable repulsorcraft and event formats; the cited material does not specify every matchmaking rule. |
Is it a movie retelling?
No. Galactic Racer uses the Star Wars setting but tells its own racing story. Nothing in the official launch description says that the game recreates a film’s plot, lets you replay a movie sequence scene for scene or places the player in the role of a film protagonist.
Its movie relationship is instead visible in the ingredients: Jakku, Crait, Tatooine, Sebulba, the post-Empire political backdrop and the visual language of landspeeders, podracers and other repulsorcraft. That approach lets the game acknowledge several Star Wars eras while keeping Shade and the Galactic League at the center.
What is known about canon status?
The responsible answer is qualified. Galactic Racer is an official Star Wars game made with Lucasfilm Games, and its settings and characters are tied to the film universe. However, the official sources identified for this launch do not explicitly say “the game is canon,” nor do they publish a formal placement in a canon hierarchy.
Best Value
- EXPAND THE GALACTIC BATTLE: Continue the conflict between the Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire with new missions, units, and ships.
- ICONIC STAR WARS CHARACTERS: Add powerful cards featuring Yoda, Emperor Palpatine, R2-D2, Admiral Thrawn, and more to your deck.
- NEW GAME MODES & CAMPAIGN: Includes three new gameplay modes, featuring a five-part campaign where each game impacts the next.
- ENHANCED STRATEGY & REPLAYABILITY: Introduces fresh deckbuilding options, evolving tactics, and dynamic gameplay variety.
- REQUIRES BASE GAME: Not a standalone product; designed for use with Star Wars: The Deckbuilding Game original edition.
Do not infer a definitive canon ruling from the Lucasfilm Games collaboration, the presence of film planets or Sebulba’s return. Those facts support “officially part of the Star Wars game and setting” and “connected to movie locations and characters.” They do not, on their own, establish that every new event in Shade’s story is binding continuity for future films or series.
Release date, platforms and availability
StarWars.com’s launch story says Galactic Racer became available worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. The date and availability are time-sensitive, so a store page should be checked for the platform and edition you intend to buy. The launch coverage establishes those platforms; it does not establish that every edition or physical product is stocked in every region.
Physical editions explained
The official Galactic Racer website describes physical Standard and Deluxe editions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It also describes a Collector’s Edition with additional physical items. The information below is about the announced contents, not a promise of current retailer stock or a current price.

Choosing a physical PS5 copy
A “STAR WARS: Galactic Racer PS5 physical game” is supported by the official edition information because a physical PS5 release is listed. That information does not establish a particular retailer’s price, stock level, delivery date or listing terms. If the disc format matters to you, verify that the product page explicitly says PS5 and identifies the edition before ordering.
What to know before you start
- Expect racing first: the campaign is built around events, routes, vehicle choices and repeatable runs, not extended film-style cutscenes alone.
- Learn more than one vehicle class: landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers are all part of the game’s design, and the descriptions point to different tactical advantages.
- Plan for setbacks: the runs-based structure means a failed attempt can still matter when perks and unlocks carry over.
- Look for Star Wars references: Jakku, Crait, Tatooine and Sebulba connect the racing circuit to recognizable film material.
- Keep canon expectations precise: the game is official and film-connected, but the cited launch sources do not make a formal canon declaration.
- Choose your mode deliberately: Campaign is the story route, Scenario and Arcade support focused events, and competitive multiplayer is available for racing against others.
- Check the platform label: the launch platforms are PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while the announced physical Standard and Deluxe editions are limited to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Bottom line for Star Wars fans
Galactic Racer is connected to the Star Wars movies in the ways most players mean when they ask the question: it is an official Star Wars game, developed with Lucasfilm Games, set in the franchise’s galaxy and populated with movie-linked locations and a returning film character. Its post-Empire setting and original Shade-versus-Bool-family story give it room to tell a new racing adventure rather than replaying a movie.
The one distinction worth preserving is canon. The available official launch material does not assign the game a formal canon label. Buy or play it expecting an authentic Star Wars setting, recognizable worlds and characters, and a runs-based racing campaign—not a film adaptation and not a publicly confirmed continuity ruling.
