Nintendo lists seven boards, more than 110 minigames and 22 playable characters, alongside several modes beyond the classic party. Those counts describe the package, not a guarantee that every minigame appears in board play or that every mode supports the same number of players.
The headline’s “some of the most fun I’ve had all year” is a reviewer’s personal verdict, not an objective measure. MobileSyrup’s Bradly Shankar praised the variety and called the game “pretty much everything you could hope for from a new Mario Party game.” Whether it is worth buying depends most on how you plan to play—and whether you’re considering the original Switch release or the separate Switch 2 edition.

What makes Super Mario Party Jamboree appealing?
The classic Mario Party format remains the centerpiece: players move around a board, collect coins and compete for Stars. Nintendo’s product page lists seven boards—five new settings and two returning favorites—and more than 110 minigames across the game. It also lists 22 playable characters. These are Nintendo’s product-content counts, accessed October 8, 2026, rather than measures of quality or player enjoyment.
- New boards: Roll ’em Raceway, Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party, Rainbow Galleria, Goomba Lagoon and King Bowser’s Keep.
- Returning boards: Western Land and Mario’s Rainbow Castle.
- Other modes: Koopathlon, Bowser Kaboom Squad, Rhythm Kitchen, Paratroopa Flight School, Toad’s Item Factory, Minigame Bay and the solo Party-Planner Trek.
The extra modes give the minigames and characters contexts beyond a standard board session. But the headline count of over 110 minigames does not mean all of them are available in the main board-game mode. Nintendo Everything reviewer Nicholas Serpa noted that the minigames are distributed among different modes, so players primarily interested in board play should not assume the full collection appears there.

- Get ready for the biggest party yet in Super Mario Party Jamboree for Nintendo Switch. From running through merry-go-rounds to motion-control minigolf, this jamboree is jam-packed with over 110 minigames – the most of any Mario Party game to date!
- With seven boards in all, you can go with the flow in Goomba Lagoon, search for stars in Rainbow Galleria, revisit the classics of Western Land and Mario’s Rainbow Castle from past titles and more.
- Race across the party board in Koopathlon, a series-first 20-player online competition to see who can rack up the highest scores in minigames like the fast-paced Lane Change. The higher your score in each round, the faster you’ll get to the goal. Koopathlon is just one of a slew of additional modes – there’s something for every kind of Mario Party player to enjoy!
What did reviewers think of the fun and variety?
Bradly Shankar’s MobileSyrup review, published October 15, 2024, highlights the board and minigame variety and singles out Bowser Kaboom Squad. Shankar wrote that the game is “pretty much everything you could hope for from a new Mario Party game.” That is his assessment, not a consensus score or a measured finding about how much players enjoy it. Nicholas Serpa’s November 2, 2024 Nintendo Everything review also praised the breadth of the package while pointing out the distribution of minigames and a motion-control caveat for Switch Lite setups.
Those reviews make the most useful case for Jamboree as a group game: it offers several ways to play, rather than relying on a single board mode. The practical question is whether the modes and controller setup match your group.
How many players can play each way?
Nintendo lists one to four players on a single system and up to 20 players online overall, but the online maximum is mode-specific. Koopathlon is the mode that supports up to 20 online players. Bowser Kaboom Squad supports up to eight online, with one player per system. Do not treat either maximum as a cap available in every mode.

There is an important distinction between the game generally and its motion-control minigames. Nintendo says Joy-Con controllers are required for motion-control minigames and that those minigames are not compatible with Switch Lite. Serpa likewise notes that motion-based minigames on Switch Lite require detached Joy-Con controllers. Some multiplayer arrangements may also need additional accessories, so check your group’s controller setup before buying or inviting players.
If you have a standard Switch, make sure you have the Joy-Con needed for motion play. If you have a Switch Lite, do not assume its built-in controls will work for every minigame; plan around the motion-mode limitation.

Should you buy the Switch version or the Switch 2 Edition?
The original Nintendo Switch game and Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV are distinct editions. Nintendo lists the Switch 2 Edition as released July 24, 2025. It adds Jamboree TV and features that use Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, HD rumble 2, the system microphone and a compatible USB-C camera. Owners of the original Switch game can buy an upgrade pack for Switch 2. Details and the upgrade path are on Nintendo’s Switch 2 Edition page.
Choose based on the system you own and whether you want the added Jamboree TV experience and hardware-specific features. The original Switch release does not include those Switch 2 additions.

- Groups sharing a Switch: The classic board format and quick minigames make it a natural fit for local party sessions, with Nintendo listing up to four players on one system.
- Large online groups: Koopathlon supports up to 20 online players, while Bowser Kaboom Squad supports up to eight online players on separate systems. Other modes have different limits.
- Solo players: Party-Planner Trek is the listed solo mode, offering a reason to play without assembling a group.
- Switch Lite owners: Motion minigames require Joy-Con and are not compatible with Switch Lite, so the hardware limitation should factor into the decision.
- Switch 2 owners: The separate Switch 2 Edition adds Jamboree TV and features designed for that system; original-game owners have an upgrade-pack option.
