Valve has not confirmed that Pyro is a girl. The official character profile leaves Pyro’s gender unclear, describing Pyro as “inscrutable” and questioning whether Pyro is a man at all.
What does Valve say about Pyro’s gender?
Valve’s official Team Fortress 2 Pyro profile says: “Either way, he’s a fearsome, inscrutable, on-fire Frankenstein of a man – if he even is a man.” The wording explicitly casts doubt on whether Pyro is a man; it does not identify Pyro as a girl.
So the most accurate answer is that Pyro’s gender is unresolved in this profile. Calling Pyro canonically female—or canonically male—goes beyond what this official wording establishes.
Do the Meet the Pyro materials settle it?
No. Valve’s June 27, 2012 announcement of Meet the Pyro identifies the video as the final Meet the Team short, but does not confirm Pyro’s gender. Valve’s July 31, 2012 post about Pyroland’s development discusses the short’s pastel, whimsical visual world, not a gender reveal.

Why do people ask whether Pyro is a girl?
Pyro is presented as mysterious, and Valve’s profile itself leaves open whether Pyro is a man. That uncertainty can invite fan interpretations, but those interpretations should be distinguished from what Valve’s cited official material confirms: it does not establish that Pyro is a girl.
