Verdict: The Be Quiet! Dark Perk Ergo is a well-equipped, right-handed wireless gaming mouse whose smooth shell, low weight and restrained switch noise are its strongest qualities. It is not literally silent, however: the manufacturer calls its Omron optical switches silent, while PC Gamer found the clicks muted rather than silent. The small shape will also divide opinion, and its €109.99 RRP is difficult to justify if you prefer a larger mouse or do not need high polling rates.

At its best, the Dark Perk Ergo gives you a precise PAW3950 sensor, up to 8,000 Hz polling, onboard profiles and a practical wireless package in a 55 g body. At its weakest, battery life falls as polling rises and comfort depends heavily on hand size and grip. Those trade-offs matter more than the headline 32,000 DPI figure.

What the Dark Perk Ergo is

The Dark Perk Ergo is be quiet!’s model BM007, a right-handed wireless gaming mouse designed around a compact ergonomic shell. The current manufacturer product page lists dimensions of 120 x 66 x 39 mm and a weight of 55 g. That puts it firmly in the lightweight category, but its outline is not symmetrical: the left side is shaped for a right thumb and the rear widens to support the palm.

The mouse uses a 2.4 GHz wireless connection or USB-C wired operation. Its PixArt PAW3950 sensor is specified for up to 32,000 DPI, while the polling-rate ceiling is 8,000 Hz. Those are maximum settings, not guarantees that every player will benefit from them. A 1,000 Hz setting remains the practical baseline for most games, while higher rates increase data updates at the cost of power consumption and, in some systems, additional CPU overhead.

Be quiet! builds the shell from ABS and rubber, with PTFE skates underneath. The internal parts include a TTC Yellow encoder, Omron Optical D2FP-FN2 main switches and a stated 1–2 mm lift-off distance. The package contains a 2.4 GHz receiver, a USB-A-to-C adapter, a braided USB-A-to-C cable and a cable tie. A two-year warranty is listed alongside a €109.99 RRP on the official specification page.

All figures in this table are manufacturer specifications unless otherwise identified. The 110-hour figure specifically applies at 1,000 Hz; it should not be read as an 8,000 Hz runtime estimate.

Is it actually silent?

The answer depends on what you mean by silent. Be quiet! describes the main Omron optical switches as having a silent sound profile. That is a vendor description, not a published decibel measurement or a standardized acoustic rating.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

PC Gamer’s reviewer heard something different in use: the clicks were muted, but not silent. In that reviewer’s office comparison, the Dark Perk Ergo was the quietest mouse available for the comparison. That is useful practical context, but it was not a controlled sound test with calibrated equipment, identical surfaces and measured decibel levels. You should therefore expect a noticeably subdued click rather than complete silence.

The distinction matters in shared rooms, streaming setups and late-night play. The mouse can reduce the sharp mechanical character of a conventional switch, but the click still produces an audible event. Scroll-wheel and button sounds, desk contact and cable movement also contribute to overall noise, so changing only the main switches cannot make the entire setup silent.

Build quality and physical design

PC Gamer describes the shell as smooth, well built and resistant to showing fingerprints. Its reviewer also found the mouse easy to move for quick turns. Those are observations from hands-on use, not a laboratory durability result, but they support the impression of a carefully finished exterior.

The 55 g weight helps explain the quick movement. A lighter body needs less force to start and stop, which can feel advantageous in low-sensitivity shooters or any game requiring repeated rapid turns. The trade-off is that some players prefer the planted feel of a heavier mouse, particularly for work that involves slow, precise cursor control.

PC Guide’s hands-on coverage notes substantial openings around the center of the underside. These cutouts reduce material and weight, while the PTFE skates provide the contact surface for movement. Open areas can also make dust and debris easier to see or clean, so periodic maintenance is sensible if you play on a fabric pad or in a dusty room.

The rear of the shell widens into the palm area rather than remaining a narrow symmetrical tube. That gives the mouse a clear ergonomic intent, but the front-to-back proportions remain compact. The official 120 x 66 x 39 mm dimensions are more useful than the word ergonomic alone: compare them with a mouse you already find comfortable before buying.

Shape, hand size and grip

The Dark Perk Ergo is explicitly right-handed, and its side contour is not suitable for left-handed use without compromising the intended thumb support. PC Gamer calls the design small and reports that the reviewer found it less comfortable than larger, thicker mice. That is a preference report, not a universal verdict, but it identifies the main buying risk.

Players with small or medium hands may appreciate the short body and low weight, especially with a fingertip or claw grip. A larger hand using a full palm grip may find the rear support insufficient, forcing the fingers to arch or the palm to sit partly behind the shell. Neither outcome can be predicted from DPI, switch type or polling rate; the dimensions and your grip determine it.

Before ordering, measure the length of a mouse that already fits you from its front edge to the back of the palm support. Then compare its width and height with 120 x 66 x 39 mm. If your current mouse is substantially longer or taller, the Dark Perk Ergo is a change in posture, not simply a lighter replacement.

Sensor performance and polling choices

The PAW3950 sensor supports up to 32,000 DPI, but very high sensitivity settings are rarely necessary for ordinary desktop or gaming use. The useful qualities are consistent tracking, predictable lift-off behavior and the ability to select a setting that matches your pad and game. The manufacturer specifies a 1–2 mm lift-off distance, giving you a defined point at which lifting the mouse stops tracking.

PC Gamer found the mouse smooth and accurate at 1,000 Hz. That is the reviewer’s tested setting and a sensible starting point because it balances responsiveness with battery life. PC Guide reports that 8,000 Hz is available in both wired and wireless modes. Moving from 1,000 to 8,000 updates per second can reduce motion-to-report intervals, but the practical difference depends on your display refresh rate, game engine, system load and sensitivity.

Use 8,000 Hz when you have a high-refresh monitor, a game that benefits from very frequent input reports and a system that remains stable under the extra workload. Otherwise, 1,000 or 2,000 Hz may provide the better balance. The mouse’s headline polling figure should be treated as an option, not a requirement.

Battery life and wireless operation

Be quiet! rates the battery for up to 110 hours at 1,000 Hz. The polling condition is essential: the claim does not apply to 8,000 Hz. Both PC Gamer and PC Guide note that higher polling significantly reduces runtime. The exact runtime at each higher setting is not stated in the available specifications, so no precise 8,000 Hz figure should be assumed.

Wireless operation uses the supplied 2.4 GHz receiver. When the battery is low, connect the included 1.8 m braided USB-A-to-C cable and continue using the mouse in wired mode while it charges. The box also includes a USB-A-to-C adapter, which helps position the receiver closer to the pad if the computer is under a desk or behind a monitor.

A practical setup is to begin at 1,000 Hz, monitor how often you recharge, then test 2,000, 4,000 or 8,000 Hz only if you can identify a benefit. That approach keeps the manufacturer’s 110-hour claim relevant instead of sacrificing endurance for a setting you may not perceive.

Buttons, profiles and software

The official page lists five programmable buttons, multiple profiles and onboard storage. PC Gamer describes six buttons when counting the DPI control. These descriptions count controls differently: the programmable-button total excludes a dedicated DPI control, while the reviewer’s total includes it. Check the on-screen assignments in IO Center rather than assuming every physical control is freely remappable.

Configuration is available through a downloadable IO Center application or a browser-based version. Browser configuration can be convenient on a work or school computer where installing software is restricted. Onboard storage is useful if you move between PCs, because saved profiles can travel with the mouse instead of relying on a background utility.

Use profiles to separate game sensitivities, polling rates and button mappings. Keep a general desktop profile with a moderate DPI and polling rate, then create game-specific profiles only where a different layout solves a real problem. More profiles do not automatically make the mouse more capable; their value comes from reducing repeated manual changes.

Price and value

The official €109.99 RRP places the Dark Perk Ergo in the upper mid-range. PC Guide reported an Amazon US listing at $99.90 and an Amazon UK listing at £83.56 when its page was published, with a UK sale price also mentioned. Those are dated outlet observations, not live quotes, so check the current price, delivery cost and stock in your region before deciding.

Value question What the evidence says What to check before buying
Is the build premium? PC Gamer found the shell smooth and well built; no independent durability rating is established. Whether the compact dimensions fit your hand and grip.
Is it quiet? Manufacturer calls the switches silent; PC Gamer heard muted, not silent, clicks. Whether reduced click noise, rather than zero noise, meets your needs.
Is battery life exceptional? Up to 110 hours at 1,000 Hz; higher polling reduces runtime. Which polling rate you will actually use.
Does it outperform rivals on value? PC Gamer questioned its value against the Corsair Sabre V2 Pro, Keychron M7 8K and other alternatives. Local prices, shape, weight, battery life, polling and switch feel together.

The comparison from PC Gamer is an evaluation from that outlet’s testing, not a universal ranking. A cheaper mouse with a better-fitting shape can be a better purchase than a faster sensor you never use. Conversely, if quiet-ish clicks, onboard profiles and an 8,000 Hz option are priorities, the Dark Perk Ergo’s feature set may justify a sale price.

How to set it up for the first time

  1. Charge or connect it: Plug in the included USB-A-to-C cable and use the mouse wired while charging, or disconnect the cable after charging for wireless use.
  2. Place the receiver: Connect the 2.4 GHz receiver directly to the PC or use the supplied USB-A-to-C adapter to position it near the mouse.
  3. Start at 1,000 Hz: Select the baseline polling rate before experimenting with higher settings. This preserves the battery condition attached to the 110-hour manufacturer claim.
  4. Install or open IO Center: Use the downloadable utility or its browser-based configuration option, depending on whether software installation is permitted on your computer.
  5. Save a profile: Set DPI, button assignments and polling rate, then store the profile onboard so it remains available on another PC.
  6. Test lift-off and comfort: Play for several sessions using your normal grip. If the short shell makes your palm hang behind the mouse or your fingers arch uncomfortably, changing settings will not fix the shape mismatch.
  7. Increase polling only with a reason: Try higher rates in a high-refresh game and watch battery drain and system behavior. Return to 1,000 or 2,000 Hz if the difference is imperceptible.

Common drawbacks and how to avoid them

  • Expecting silence: Treat the switches as muted rather than inaudible. If you need zero click noise, this mouse cannot promise that.
  • Buying without checking dimensions: The ergonomic label does not guarantee comfort for large hands. Compare 120 x 66 x 39 mm with a mouse you already like.
  • Using 8,000 Hz everywhere: Higher polling consumes more battery and may add unnecessary system work. Start at 1,000 Hz and increase only when your setup benefits.
  • Judging value by DPI alone: A 32,000 DPI ceiling is not a substitute for fit, stable tracking, useful buttons and acceptable battery life.
  • Assuming prices are current: The US and UK figures reported by PC Guide are historical listings. Confirm today’s regional price and availability before purchase.

Who should buy the Dark Perk Ergo?

It makes the most sense for a right-handed player with small-to-medium hands who wants a light mouse, a smooth shell and quieter-than-average main clicks without giving up wireless performance. The combination of a PAW3950 sensor, onboard profiles, browser configuration and optional 8,000 Hz polling is broad enough for competitive and general gaming use.

Consider another model if you use a large palm grip, need genuinely silent switches, prefer a heavier mouse or are paying close to the full €109.99 RRP without using its distinctive features. PC Gamer’s alternatives comparison reinforces that value depends on the complete package rather than the specification ceiling.

Final verdict

The Dark Perk Ergo’s strongest case is its balance: a 55 g body, polished shell, accurate tracking at 1,000 Hz, flexible wired and wireless modes, and clicks that are restrained even if they are not silent. Its weaknesses are equally clear. The compact right-handed shape will not suit every hand, 8,000 Hz shortens battery life, and the full-price proposition is less compelling when a rival fits you better or offers similar performance for less.

Buy it for the shape, low weight and muted feel after confirming those fit your priorities. Do not buy it simply for the words silent, 32,000 DPI or 8,000 Hz; each claim needs the qualification attached to it.
