The GeForce GT 1030 is good enough for some older and lightweight games at reduced settings, but it is not a sensible choice for modern, demanding games. The memory type matters: the GT 1030 GDDR5 is substantially faster than the DDR4 version, so check the exact card before buying.
What kind of gaming can a GT 1030 handle?
There is no single frame-rate answer for every GT 1030. Results vary by game, resolution, graphics settings, processor and the specific card. Available tests show a sharp divide: lightweight games can run at playable frame rates, while demanding modern releases may remain extremely slow even when image upscaling is enabled.
Lightweight games can be playable
In tests reported by Tom’s Hardware from GCS Hardware in July 2025, a GT 1030 GDDR5 averaged 100 FPS in Counter-Strike 2 at low settings. The same report recorded 30–40 FPS in GTA V Enhanced at low settings before upscaling. Those results apply to the reported test setup and games; they are not a guarantee for every PC or scene. Read Tom’s Hardware’s report of the GCS Hardware tests.
Modern demanding games are a poor fit
The same 2025 report found very low performance in two demanding games on its GDDR5 sample. In Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, the reported average was 8 FPS at native 1080p, 15 FPS with FSR 3.1 Performance, and 21 FPS at a 720p render resolution. In Space Marine II, it was 6 FPS at native resolution and 13 FPS with FSR Performance. Upscaling improved the reported figures, but did not make those results comfortable gaming performance.

- Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030
- Video Memory: 4GB DDR4
- Boost Clock: 1430 MHz
- Memory Interface: 64-bit
- Output: DisplayPort x 1 (v1.4a) / HDMI 2.0b x 1
These examples are a warning, not a comprehensive ranking of every modern game: the report covered a small number of titles and one GT 1030 GDDR5 test card. They also show why a single frame-rate figure cannot describe the card’s performance across a library.
GT 1030 DDR4 vs. GDDR5: why the memory type matters
Cards sold under the GT 1030 name can use either DDR4 or GDDR5 memory. The difference is large enough that gaming advice should identify the variant, rather than treating all GT 1030s as equivalent.

TechSpot’s 2018 comparison lists 16.8 GB/s of memory bandwidth for the DDR4 version and 48 GB/s for the GDDR5 version. In its Battlefield 1 testing, the GDDR5 sample was 104% faster at 720p on the low preset and 118% faster at 1080p on minimum settings. These are results from TechSpot’s particular test system and settings, not universal performance margins. See TechSpot’s GT 1030 DDR4-versus-GDDR5 tests.
For gaming, prefer GDDR5 if you are considering a GT 1030 at all. The DDR4 model’s much lower bandwidth makes an already entry-level card less capable; consider it only if a specific non-gaming use and its price make sense for you.

Check the exact card and your PC before buying
Specifications differ by board model. For example, MSI’s GeForce GT 1030 2G LP OC datasheet, generated March 29, 2023, describes this particular card—not every GT 1030—as a 2GB GDDR5 model with a 64-bit bus, a PCIe 3.0 x16 interface operating at an x4 link, and 30W listed power consumption. MSI recommends a 300W PSU for that model. Check MSI’s specifications for the GT 1030 2G LP OC.
MSI lists dimensions of 159 × 69 × 19 mm, one included low-profile bracket, HDMI 2.0b with support for 4K at 60 Hz, DisplayPort 1.4a and support for up to two displays. These are model-specific specifications; confirm the exact card’s measurements and ports against your case and monitor requirements.

- Entry-level graphics card is a budget option that not only increases screen performance additionally, but also provides good performance for less demanding games, easy to use, office work, application.
- Memory: Verify that the listing explicitly says GDDR5, not DDR4.
- Case fit: Check the card’s length, height, slot thickness and bracket. A low-profile card may still need its matching bracket and enough room in the case.
- Power: Check the card maker’s PSU recommendation and your PC manufacturer’s power limits. Do not assume every system can accept an added graphics card.
- Display connections: Confirm that the card has the ports your monitors need and supports the intended display arrangement.
- Price and alternatives: Compare current local listings with other cards that physically and electrically fit your PC. Current prices, availability and a value ranking are not established here.
When does a GT 1030 make sense?
A GDDR5 GT 1030 may suit a PC where low profile and low power consumption are hard constraints and the games are older or lightweight. It may also be useful for display output, but that practical role should not be mistaken for modern gaming capability. Its suitability depends on the exact card, system compatibility, intended games and price relative to feasible alternatives.
It is not a good choice for a new build aimed at modern AAA games. A small, low-power card can be convenient, but those traits do not overcome the performance limits shown in demanding games.
