Kasumi suspects she is one, but her memories and the clues discussed in the story do not prove it.
Why does Kasumi think she might be a synth?
Kasumi is Kenji and Rei Nakano’s daughter. After leaving home, she takes refuge at Acadia and tells the player she believes she may be a synth. She points to recurring dreams about waking in a laboratory, gaps in her childhood memories, and a sense that she never fit in with her family. These are her experiences and suspicions, not independent confirmation of her identity. The character reference notes that Kasumi cannot prove her claim.

Does the Institute conversation settle it?
No. William Moseley tells the player that the Institute has no record of deploying a synth under Kasumi’s identity. That is a clue, but it does not establish that she is human. The conversation raises the possibility of altered memories without confirming that this happened to Kasumi. The dialogue transcript preserves that unresolved exchange.
Is Kasumi the same as Captain Avery?
No. Captain Avery’s story is separate: Far Harbor reveals that DiMA killed the original Avery and arranged for a synth to replace her. That confirmed replacement does not establish anything about Kasumi’s identity.

What does the game actually establish?
- Kasumi believes she may be a synth, based on her dreams, memory gaps, and feeling of not belonging.
- The Institute has no deployment record for a synth under her identity, but the conversation does not conclusively identify her as human.
- The story does not definitively confirm Kasumi as either human or synth.
- DiMA’s replacement of Captain Avery is confirmed, but it is not evidence about Kasumi.
So the most accurate answer is that Kasumi’s identity remains unresolved in the story. Her own belief, her parents’ views, and the Institute’s record can shape how players interpret her, but none settles the question.
