The claim that the next Xbox is “fully in production” and tentatively targeting 2027 traces to a Windows Central report published March 10, 2025, which cited unnamed sources. Microsoft has since publicly identified its next-generation effort as Project Helix and described a 2027 milestone for alpha versions sent to developers. That is evidence of development, not confirmation of retail production or a consumer launch date.
Where did the “fully in production” claim come from?
Windows Central reporter Jez Corden reported on March 10, 2025, citing sources, that Microsoft had greenlit the successor to Xbox Series X|S and that its next-generation hardware was in production. The report characterized 2027 as tentative and warned that plans could change. It did not cite a public Microsoft announcement confirming either mass production or a retail launch year, and it left price, specifications and features for future reporting. Read the Windows Central report.
A GeekChamp article published May 16, 2026, repeats the production and 2027 claims. The available text does not show new primary documentation independently confirming them, so it should not be treated as a fresh Microsoft confirmation. Read the GeekChamp article.

GameSpot’s account of Ronald’s GDC remarks describes Helix as a platform intended to play Xbox and PC games. It also reports a plan to begin sending alpha versions of the system to developers in 2027. Read GameSpot’s GDC coverage.
What the 2027 developer-kit milestone means
An alpha version sent to developers is an early development build for making or testing games. It is not a retail console, and the reported plan to start distributing those versions in 2027 does not establish when consumers will be able to buy Project Helix. The developer milestone and the earlier tentative consumer-release target are separate claims.
