Is the RTX 4060 Ti Still Worth Buying in 2026?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The RTX 4060 Ti remains capable for 1080p gaming, but it is no longer an automatic budget recommendation. In 2026, the answer depends on its price, whether you want the 8GB or 16GB version, and how much you value Nvidia features, low power use and compact card designs. At similar prices, compare newer RTX 5060 Ti models and AMD’s 16GB alternatives before buying.

Why “a year after launch” is now a dated frame

The RTX 4060 Ti 8GB went on sale on May 24, 2023, at a $399 US launch price; the 16GB version followed in July 2023 at $499. One year after launch means May 2024. This is a current-market reassessment instead: by 2026, newer Nvidia and AMD cards make the original price and launch reviews only part of the buying decision. Nvidia’s launch announcement

“Budget” is relative to the current market, not the card’s name. The 4060 Ti was a mainstream $399 card at launch, not an entry-level sub-$300 product. Its 2026 value rests on getting it well below comparable newer options or needing its efficiency, Nvidia features or small-card availability.

What you get: two cards with different memory capacity

Specification RTX 4060 Ti 8GB RTX 4060 Ti 16GB
Architecture Ada Lovelace Ada Lovelace
CUDA cores 4,352 4,352
Boost clock Up to 2.54 GHz Up to 2.54 GHz
Memory 8GB GDDR6 16GB GDDR6
Memory interface 128-bit 128-bit
Average gaming power Approximately 140W, per Nvidia Approximately 140W, per Nvidia
US launch price $399, May 24, 2023 $499, July 2023

Both versions have the same core configuration and memory bus. The 16GB version’s main advantage is capacity, not a faster GPU. Nvidia says they perform similarly in most games, with differences in selected memory-intensive situations. Its extra VRAM can help when an 8GB card is constrained by textures or other data, but it does not turn the card into a higher performance tier. #1 Best Overall
ASUS Dual GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card
  • AI Performance: 767 AI TOPS
  • OC mode: 2632 MHz (OC mode)/ 2602 MHz (Default mode)
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4
  • Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
  • A 2.5-slot design maximizes compatibility and cooling efficiency for superior performance in small chassis

The 128-bit interface and 8GB capacity set practical limits for demanding settings; the low power draw is a counterweight. Nvidia lists third-generation ray-tracing cores, fourth-generation Tensor cores and support for DLSS 3.5 features. Partner cards vary in cooler, dimensions, power limit and connectors, so check the exact model rather than assuming every 4060 Ti has identical fit or power requirements.

How well does it game at 1080p, 1440p and 4K?

1080p: its best fit

The 4060 Ti is well suited to 1080p high-refresh gaming, esports and older games, and can handle many current titles at high settings. It is a sensible match for a 1080p monitor if you are willing to adjust settings in the most demanding releases. At very high frame rates, the CPU can also become a limiting factor, so a graphics-card upgrade does not guarantee a proportional improvement in every game.

1440p: workable with compromises

It can play at 1440p, particularly with high rather than ultra settings and selective upscaling, but it is not an ideal choice for someone expecting native 1440p ultra settings and maximum textures over a long ownership period. Tom’s Hardware’s benchmark hierarchy lists the 8GB card at about 40.8% relative performance at 1080p, 25.7% at 1440p and 8.1% at 4K. These are positions in that publication’s benchmark hierarchy, not promised frame rates or results for every game. Tom’s Hardware GPU hierarchy

4K: not a strong modern AAA target

The 4060 Ti is a poor choice if your priority is native 4K in modern, graphically demanding games. Upscaling can make some games playable, but it does not remove the card’s limits in rendering performance or memory capacity.

Raster performance is not one universal ranking

Launch testing illustrates why resolution and benchmark suite matter: Tom’s Hardware found the 4060 Ti slightly ahead of the RTX 3070 at 1080p in its test suite, while its native performance fell behind the RTX 3060 Ti at 1440p and 4K. That is a result from those tests, not a rule that holds in every title. Tom’s Hardware’s RTX 4060 Ti review

What 8GB of VRAM means in practice

Eight gigabytes is still workable for many 1080p games. It is less comfortable when several demands pile up: high-resolution textures, ray tracing, 1440p, mods or a game with inefficient memory use. A game may run well at one setting and show stutter or texture compromises at another; 8GB is not a universal failure point, but it leaves less room to avoid adjustments.

  • Usually a reasonable fit: esports, older titles, 1080p gaming at high rather than maximum texture settings, and games with effective texture streaming.
  • More likely to need compromises: newer AAA releases, 1440p ultra textures, ray tracing combined with high textures, heavy modding and long-term use without lowering settings.

The 16GB model is worth considering if its premium is small and you play memory-heavy games, use mods, target 1440p or have creative or AI workloads that benefit from additional VRAM. It is harder to justify for mostly 1080p esports, or when it costs close to a newer 16GB card. Tom’s Hardware’s dedicated review examines how the added memory affects results. Tom’s Hardware’s RTX 4060 Ti 16GB review

Ray tracing, DLSS and Frame Generation

The 4060 Ti’s ray-tracing hardware and Nvidia’s software are useful advantages, but they do not make every demanding ray-traced game run smoothly at maximum settings. On the 8GB model especially, ray tracing paired with high textures can increase pressure on both rendering performance and memory.

  • DLSS Super Resolution renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image. It can improve performance in supported games, with image quality depending on the game, mode and output resolution.
  • Frame Generation inserts generated frames between traditionally rendered ones. It can make motion look smoother, but displayed output is not the same as that many independently rendered frames. It does not fix a low base frame rate, CPU bottleneck or inconsistent frame pacing, and it does not provide the same responsiveness as native frames.
  • Ray tracing is best treated as a selectable cost: enable it where the visual improvement matters and performance remains acceptable, rather than assuming every setting should be maxed.

Keep native or base performance separate from results using upscaling or frame generation when comparing cards. Nvidia’s launch materials make feature-enabled performance claims for selected games and settings; those are vendor results, not general benchmark averages. Nvidia’s RTX 4060 Ti feature overview

How it compares with newer and competing cards

Alternative What the evidence says When to favor it
RTX 4060 TechSpot measured the 4060 Ti about 22% faster on average at 1080p in its comparison. The performance gain was smaller than the launch price increase, making the 4060 the stronger value in the tested configurations. Lower-cost 1080p systems; choose the Ti only if its price gap is modest or you need its extra performance for high-refresh gaming.
RTX 5060 Nvidia announced a $299 starting price and Blackwell features including DLSS 4. The 4060 Ti may remain competitive in traditional 1080p rendering when discounted, but compare independent results and actual prices. A new lower-cost Nvidia build where newer features matter. Its 8GB capacity still merits the same caution for demanding settings.
RTX 5060 Ti 16GB Nvidia’s launch price was $429 for 16GB, versus $499 for the 4060 Ti 16GB at its launch. It adds a newer architecture and DLSS 4 support. Usually the more compelling Nvidia choice for a new 16GB purchase if prices are close; check street pricing rather than assuming launch pricing is available.
Radeon RX 7700 XT Tom’s Hardware found it generally superior in performance and value when priced near the 4060 Ti; its wider memory bus and higher VRAM capacity also suit raster-focused gaming. 1440p raster performance when ray tracing, CUDA or Nvidia-specific tools are not priorities, and larger size and higher power draw are acceptable.
Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB Tom’s Hardware’s June 2026 guide listed a $349 MSRP and approximately $464 median street price. That is a dated market snapshot, not a guaranteed August price. AMD material confirms 8GB and 16GB versions. A newer 16GB option for buyers prioritizing VRAM and raster performance over CUDA-dependent software or Nvidia’s ecosystem.

For the RTX 4060 comparison, the 22% figure is TechSpot’s average at 1080p in its test suite, not a result for every game. TechSpot’s RTX 4060 versus 4060 Ti comparison Nvidia’s announcement set the RTX 5060 at $299 starting price and the RTX 5060 Ti at $379 for 8GB or $429 for 16GB; availability and retail pricing vary. Nvidia’s Multi Frame Generation performance claims apply to supported games and feature-enabled conditions, not native raster performance. Efficiency, streaming and compact builds

Approximately 140W average gaming power, as listed by Nvidia, remains one of the 4060 Ti’s clearest strengths. Lower power and heat can make it easier to cool quietly and fit into a compact system; short dual-fan partner cards exist. Nvidia also highlights AV1 encoding and creator acceleration for the RTX 4060 family. These features may matter for streaming, video work or applications that use CUDA, but software compatibility varies by application. Nvidia’s RTX 4060 family guide

Do not assume every 4060 Ti will fit or use the same connector. Before ordering, check the exact card’s length, thickness, power connector and manufacturer requirements against your case and power supply. Also verify PCIe slot availability, monitor resolution and refresh rate, CPU pairing, operating-system driver support and Resizable BAR support where relevant. The GPU’s low power design does not mean every system needs a new power supply.

Who should buy each version?

RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, new

Buy only at a meaningful discount to newer alternatives, primarily for 1080p. Nvidia’s Marketplace listing was observed at $399, reduced from $499, but was marked out of stock; that listing does not establish broad retail availability or a current market price. Nvidia Marketplace listing

RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, new

Consider it only when clearly cheaper than a comparable newer 16GB card and when the extra memory or Nvidia software matters to your use. At prices near the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB or RX 9060 XT 16GB, those newer alternatives deserve priority in the comparison.

Used or open-box

A lower price can make the 4060 Ti more attractive, but check the warranty and return period, card temperatures and hotspot temperature, fan noise, video outputs, coil whine, physical condition and power connectors. Ask about sustained rendering or mining use if possible. Judge the deal against newer 12GB or 16GB cards, not just the old launch price.

Prebuilt or small-form-factor PC

In a prebuilt, compare the whole system’s price and other components rather than treating the GPU in isolation. In a compact build, the card’s low power and the availability of smaller partner models can justify choosing it over a faster, larger, higher-power competitor—provided the exact card fits.

1440p, ray tracing or content creation

For 1440p raster gaming, compare the RX 7700 XT and RX 9060 XT 16GB at current prices. For ray tracing, CUDA applications, Nvidia-specific creator features or AV1 workflows, the 4060 Ti may remain useful, but test compatibility with the software and check memory needs. If you expect to use ultra textures or heavy mods, avoid paying a premium for the 8GB version.

The price-based buying rule

  1. If the RTX 4060 Ti costs as much as or more than an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, choose neither automatically: compare actual performance, stock, warranty and your software needs, but the older card needs a substantial price advantage to make sense.
  2. If you want affordable Nvidia 1080p gaming: compare the 4060 Ti with the RTX 5060 and RTX 4060. The Ti is worthwhile when its real performance advantage is worth the price difference to you.
  3. If you prioritize 1440p raster performance and memory capacity: compare current RX 7700 XT and RX 9060 XT 16GB offers.
  4. If you need a compact, efficient Nvidia card: the 4060 Ti can still be a defensible choice even when it is not the fastest card per dollar.
  5. If buying used: factor in warranty, return rights and condition, and do not pay near-newer-card pricing for an 8GB model.

Retail prices and stock vary by country, seller, card model and condition. The available price references include official US launch prices, one June 2026 market snapshot and an out-of-stock Nvidia listing—not a live, comprehensive retailer survey as of August 2026—so compare listings at the time you buy.
