What the War Thunder dev server is
The dev server is a temporary version of War Thunder used to test major updates, mechanics, and content before they reach the live game. How to check whether it is open
- Open the official War Thunder forum and look for the newest dev-server opening announcement: forum.warthunder.com.
- Check the notice’s status and access dates. The latest located “Sky Odyssey” notice is marked “Dev Server is closed”; its stated window ended September 12, 2026.
- Use the client link in that current announcement if a new window is open. Avoid relying on an old announcement’s download link, which may not match the current test.
How to join during an opening
For PC, the Wiki’s standard route is to download the Dev Server launcher, install it in a folder separate from the main War Thunder client, then launch it to download the dev version. See the Wiki’s installation guidance and follow the current official announcement for the client link.
The Wiki also documents a copied-folder configuration method, including for Linux and macOS. Setup details can change, so consult its current platform-specific instructions rather than applying old configuration steps by assumption.

What carries over to the live account
The September “Sky Odyssey” announcement says the dev server uses a copy of the player’s main-server account from recent days. Progress made during the test—including research points and Silver Lions earned, achievements, and vehicle unlocks—does not transfer back to the live server. Treat dev-server activity as testing, not as a way to advance your main account.

Opening and closing times are not a guarantee of uninterrupted access. In the official notice, forum poster Stona_WT warned: “For technical reasons, the dev server may close immediately at any time before the indicated time, so please make the most out of the opening window!” Check the latest announcement when you plan to play and connect promptly once the server is available.
