What can a Wii play?
Wii discs
Nintendo says Wii and Wii mini play Wii game discs, not discs from other consoles. Wii discs are region encoded, so check that the game and console regions match. Nintendo’s disc support page describes supported discs and region restrictions.
GameCube games and accessories
Only the original Wii model RVL-001 supports GameCube discs and accessories. The RVL-101 and Wii mini RVL-201 do not. Nintendo also says GameCube controllers generally work when playing GameCube games on a compatible Wii. PS2 discs
A Wii cannot play PS2 discs. If your intended games are on PS2, you need a PS2-compatible setup rather than a Wii.
What should you check when buying used?
- Games: Confirm the console plays the specific titles you want; the two systems do not share disc compatibility.
- Wii model: If GameCube support matters, verify that the Wii is RVL-001. Do not assume every Wii supports GameCube games or accessories.
