The available catalog figures support comparing seven useful engines, not a verified top-ten order. The ranking below is therefore organized by what each engine is suited to, rather than treating one set of stats as a universal winner.
How to compare Starfield engines
Engine catalog values describe individual modules, not the final performance of a completed ship. A high per-engine thrust number does not by itself make an engine the best choice: the engine’s class must fit the ship, its power demand has to fit the reactor budget, and the installed engines must provide for the ship’s mass and handling needs. INARA’s catalog lists class, maximum power, thrust, maneuvering thrust, speed, and mass for these modules; the figures below are catalog values, not results from in-game testing. INARA’s Starfield ship-module catalog does not state the game version or explicitly confirm DLC coverage.
Read the thrust and maneuvering thrust values as per-engine comparisons. More installed engines can raise a ship’s total output, but they also consume more power and add engine mass. For a practical build, compare the total output and power use of the number of engines you can install against the ship’s mass and the handling you want. The figures here do not establish a tested configuration or the performance of any particular ship.
Seven engines ranked by role
This is a role-based order using the catalog figures and build tradeoffs—not a claim that every engine is available at every unlock level or that the list is a complete, current top ten.

1. Poseidon DT230 — strongest cited per-engine output
The Poseidon DT230 leads these examples in both listed thrust, at 34,520, and maneuvering thrust, at 11,600. That makes it a strong candidate when raw per-engine output is the priority. Its tradeoffs are Class C compatibility, a maximum power draw of 4, and a mass of 334; it also lists speed 130. It is not automatically the right pick for a lower-class ship or a tight power budget.
2. SAL-6830 — maneuvering thrust with a two-power draw
The Class C SAL-6830 lists 18,000 thrust and 8,800 maneuvering thrust while using a maximum of 2 power. That lower listed power demand makes it an interesting comparison against higher-draw engines when managing a reactor budget. It has speed 130 and mass 330, so compare the number of units needed for your ship rather than treating its per-engine power figure as the whole build cost.

- Step-by-step Manual: The warm tower lights glow through every window, creating an atmospheric display that looks incredible day or night. Powered by a standard Type-C connection (cable not included) ROKR provides replacement parts for manufacturing defects
3. Amun Dunn X-300 — a three-power Class C contender
The Amun Dunn X-300 lists 25,890 thrust and 8,400 maneuvering thrust for a maximum power use of 3. Its figures place it between the raw-output leader and lower-power SAL-6830 in this sample. It is Class C, with speed 130 and mass 336, so its usefulness depends on class compatibility and how much engine mass your design can accommodate.
4. Supernova 2200 — another balanced Class C option
The Class C Supernova 2200 uses a maximum of 3 power and lists 25,770 thrust with 7,650 maneuvering thrust. Its speed is 130 and mass is 333. It is close to the Amun Dunn X-300 in listed thrust, with lower maneuvering thrust, so the distinction matters most when comparing the combined engine setup your ship can support.

- The Razor Crest, the armored transport shuttle from The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars series is here!
- A display base with a ball joint to display the kit at a preferred angle
5. SAE-5660 — Class B option with strong listed thrust
The SAE-5660 is Class B, not a direct substitute for a Class C engine in every ship build. It lists 24,300 thrust, 5,550 maneuvering thrust, speed 140, mass 135, and a maximum power draw of 3. Consider it when building within Class B constraints; do not rank it against C-class modules without accounting for the ship class and builder limitations.
6. Dunn-71 — high listed thrust among these B-class examples
The Class B Dunn-71 lists 26,580 thrust, 5,250 maneuvering thrust, speed 140, and mass 144, with a maximum power draw of 3. Among the B-class examples shown here, its thrust figure is the highest. The SAE-5660 lists more maneuvering thrust and lower mass, so the better fit depends on whether your build prioritizes those properties over the Dunn-71’s higher thrust.

7. White Dwarf 3015 — for a speed-focused comparison
The Class A White Dwarf 3015 has the highest listed speed among these examples: 180. It uses a maximum of 3 power and lists 20,460 thrust, 3,150 maneuvering thrust, and mass 95. That makes it a distinct candidate when listed speed and lower engine mass matter, though its thrust and maneuvering-thrust figures trail several engines above. The catalog’s speed figure alone does not establish the final speed of a completed ship.

- Need maximum listed output per engine: start with the Poseidon DT230, provided a Class C engine and its four-power draw fit the build.
- Need to manage power use: compare the SAL-6830’s two-power draw with the number of engines required and the resulting total output.
- Building a Class B ship: compare the SAE-5660 and Dunn-71 within that class, including their maneuvering thrust and mass—not just thrust.
- Prioritizing listed speed or low engine mass: consider the White Dwarf 3015, while remembering its lower listed maneuvering thrust.
What this ranking does—and does not—establish
These are defensible candidates from the available catalog data, not a definitive current-version top ten. The catalog does not provide a verified unlock-level comparison here, and it does not identify the game version or confirm DLC coverage. No in-game tests establish how a particular engine count performs on a particular ship. A Game8 guide also calls the Poseidon DT230 the best engine it encountered, but that is that guide’s editorial judgment rather than a universal conclusion: Game8’s engine guide.
