Why do players describe it as a two-hour ending?
The finale is unusually long by cinematic-game standards. In a 2019 review, TIME described some of the game’s cutscenes as running upwards of an hour. That is a reviewer’s characterization, not an exact measurement of a particular scene.
Player discussions also warn that the ending can take a substantial stretch of time. Those accounts are anecdotal and refer to the sequence as a whole; they do not verify a two-hour scene. A 2023 academic article reports more than eleven hours of video cuts across the game, but that figure is the article’s reported count—not a studio-published statistic or a runtime for the ending alone. How much time should you set aside?
Plan for a substantial endgame session rather than expecting a quick cinematic wrap-up. There is no reliable scene-by-scene timing here, so an exact estimate would be misleading. If you need to stop at a particular time, avoid starting the finale when you have only a short window; community warnings about the ending’s length reflect that practical concern, but are not precise runtime measurements.

The question is about the length of the ending, not a special feature of one edition. Kojima Productions identifies Death Stranding Director’s Cut as an expanded edition in its official announcement; that announcement does not confirm a two-hour cutscene. The game itself is the relevant choice if you want to experience the finale, but buying a particular edition is not necessary to understand the runtime claim.
